- Lille Virgil, 8 years old, lives by himself and his own rules, in a shed he has adapted himself. He spends his time looking after his chicken, helping village people, after a fashion, going to school (when they're not suspended), and grifting for what he needs. He and his best friend have a hairy old time with their exploits, including dodging Orla, the local ne'er do-well, and setting him up to get caught.
- A story of fleeting, innocent, first love lost, to be replaced by a lifelong longing for what might have been. A young boy of approximately 10-11 years old is rock-collecting at the riverside when he encounters a girl of the same age, swimming in the weir. Instantly smitten, he goes to talk to her, and they spend the afternoon together, until some uncouth boys arrive and bully her. He is not brave enough to stand up for her. She leaves, and he is condemned to a lifetime of wistful longing.
- In the middle ages a small Greenlandic boy comes drifting with an Iceberg to a remote and superstitious settlement in Iceland and is believed to be an evil spirit by his looks. He saves a young boy from an avalanche and they become friends. The young Icelandic boy has to fight for his friends existence against the ignorant villagers, who want him imprisoned or even killed.
- Set in the Tadjik village of Asht, this film draws on the Muslim notion that we are born with an angel on each shoulder, and that the angel on the right records the good that we do throughout our lives, and the angel on the left the bad. A man who has served ten years in a Moscow prison is summoned home upon release, to help settle the affairs of his dying mother, but it is soon borne into him that he must settle his own outstanding affairs with the villagers. The nine year old son he never knew about is entrusted by the dying mother with the family heirloom jewellery, tasked with only passing it on to his father if he becomes a good man.
- Vlad (Dimitry Shevelyov) is an outsider, laughed at by some of his classmates. His sister, meanwhile, sticks up for him, trying to tell the class his ideas. Vlad, you see, is a talented engineer, at the tender age of about 12 years, but he can't persuade people to listen to him, and accept that his civil engineering ideas are valid. In his mind, he sees himself as a young Leonardo Da Vinci, and puts himself in Da Vinci's place.
