- Patriarch François Backeljau isn't interested when popular 'simpleton' son Franky announces and the newspaper confirms that a TV crew is expected to film the ordinary family's life, but that changes when he hears about the generous fee. Hearing Franky finally got steady, both parents insist he must bring along his beloved, albeit Jeanine, the asinine though gorgeous daughter of the neighborhood's pub and snack-bar family. Franky is ordered to have his brand-new tattoo removed. Jealous of the attention, his even dumber sister Sabrina decides to cook, without the slightest culinary talent or experience, so even devoted lover Antonio can't eat any of it. Jeabine brings her seven brothers, burly motor-bikers.
- Franky's love-life suffers like the family home neighbor Marcel's from 'artistic endeavors'. Cois rehearse endlessly but desperately the part he accepted to play in amateur theatre, but ends up with extreme stage-fright. Grandma and two crone friends start rehearsing as a heavy metal band.
- Despite another hefty tobacco price raise, Cois won't even consider trying to quit. However an idle bet, presumed impossible, forces him to keep his word when Maria's girls football (soccer) team accidentally makes the concrete construction 'league final' because their semi-final adversaries are disqualified for doping. Diet plans are forgotten within minutes. Maria's dirty talk on the field proves disastrous.
- Neighbor Marcel De Neut is tired of the the Backeljaus' constant pestering, including vandalism, but when he calls the police, they manage to make him seem the abusive party. Shortly after, granny's beloved Blackie is dog-napped for hefty ransom.
- Grandmother Thérèse is arrested for shoplifting, vandalism and resisting arrest. Having far from mended her ways at the precinct, she's jailed without bail. The family, stuck with her unruly dog Blacky, is shocked and organizes visits to smuggle in files, but finds the jail-house is a cesspitt of illegal marijuana farming. By the time she gets out, media coverage assured lucrative sales of her autobiography 'A life full of pre-trial arrest'.
- Unlike other years, birdbrain Sabrina isn't content with the usual birthday presents but handed the family a wish list beyond their budget. Rich lover Antonio however 'chips in' for a pink car. Father Cois finds giving her driving lessons so stressing he ends up catatonic. meanwhile grandma gets the motorbike Frankie dreams of, but theft and speeding soon end her fun when the police finds out.
- Thanks to a newspaper competition, the girls go on Tyrolian holiday. Cois and Franky enjoy lazily lying around, until a friendly couple turns up, looking for a babysit while they start spending the fortune they won in the lottery during a Bavarian holiday. Eager for a huge but uncertain reward, hopefully a BMW, Cois volunteers his utterly incapable self and startled Franky, who makes the best of it. Luckily it turns out Antonio learned a lot from having six younger siblings and very busy parents.
- François' annual nightmare arrives: his taxes. IRS inspector Firmin Deslechte visits, and is kidnapped to extort a refund, then hypnotized. Meanwhile the girls are hot on sales 'bargains'. So they wildly exaggerate the price of dog therapy after Franky punishes Blacky for vandalism.
- François is heart-broken when lightning strikes and hits not only him, but burns out the beloved TV set, his only comfort among troublesome family. It's too much when Mia lets her sister, aunt Carla, drop by. In fact she only drop off her adorable 5 year-old son Lionel, smarter then all adults together, yet still easily led astray by grandma. François buys a new TV and takes a second job as early pizza baker to pay for it.
- François tries to teach Frankie rabbit-hunting, or actually poaching. Grandma stops at nothing to defend the bunnies, from preaching and writing a pamphlet to reporting her (grand)son to the police. Sabrina already gave Frankie, Antonio and all neighbors parking tickets on her first day at the precinct, fitting in with fellow uniformed idiots who assume her connected with the mayor.
- Grandma's reckless hobbies have run up such a huge bill in debts and damages that a bailiff is coming with a locksmith to confiscate the entire Backeljau home and its content. Sabrina fines them and has their truck towed, which buys some time. Selling off possessions doesn't raise nearly enough. An expatriate aunt's hideous, feared African gifts suddenly become important.
- François's employer went bust, so he looses his mason job. Ma resumes her waitress job and puts him in charge of the household, a recipe for domestic disaster. Frankie's latest source of income is selling plush bananas, but acts suspiciously shifty. Sabrina also tries serving, but is far to blunt and rude, so everybody agrees she should apply for a public service job, and the police actually hires the airhead.
- It's Friday the 13th, so superstitious çoi warns his children. They still go skiing on brushes, and return pretending to have multiple fractures- which scares çoi so badly he really falls and breaks a leg. Ma plans and packs half the home for a gastronomy weekend, and grandma for an archaeological dig in Indian country. The disciples of a Hindu swami play a surprising part.
- François soon overcomes his grudge that he was the last to find out about the family's plans to start a French cheeses campaign when told it earns them 4,000,000 Euro. Frankie enrolls in night courses to learn French, and the school arranges a student exchange. However, practicing speaking French and cleaning up their Antwerp dialect for Renée proves a testing combination.
- After hearing how well two-bit local singer Eddy Lombroso is paid, çois decides to manage Franky as the next star. Writing his own text is beyond the son, but this comes naturally to young godson Lionel. Antonio gets a dream job at his uncle Emilio's Florida plant. However, çois refuses to let Sabrina join him unless he pays for it, which he can't afford. The family jointly directs the waterworks. Franky's showbiz dream turns nightmarish when a sponsor is found but poses elaborate demands.
- The postman is happy to deliver a package for the crazy neighbor Marcel De Neut to the Bakeljaus. Franky opens it, granny takes some of the 'candy', which turns out to be amphetamines for Marcel's race pigeons. It gives her abnormal strength and an even crazier mood. Sabrina has applied for the SWAT team, so she is getting used to handling a machine-gun. The gullible police are easy to abuse.
- Franky's first singing gig may have been his last, making him and 'manager' dad the neighborhood's laughing stock. Franky's lover Jeanine is thrown out at home after a row. Alas Cois won't let her sleep with him, nor her burly biker brothers. Lionel's mother still insists on a fun park weekend with him but Franky messed up the oil-change in the commotion and is punished elaborately.
- François may look down on horoscopes, but when a mail present for granny remarkably makes one come true, followed by more coincidences, the family starts bothering with its suggestions. It is just that concern that may cause further self-fulfilling prophecies.
- François is overworked, and the boss's visiting wife Mrs. Devis brings bad luck, first for herself, then for him. At home, Franky and his Sabrina enjoy sunbathing, so sleazy neighbor Marcel tries to play peeping Tom. Both men land in hospital, again as grumpy neighbors.
- The family should have known that granny staying on her room for a week wouldn't mean she'd stay out of trouble: she used a PC on trial to hack the NASA computer. She's jailed for tapping into the neighbor's phone line, but soon released on bail. This time the home becomes the scene of a virtual, as well as a neighbors, war.
- After the women get emotional about Blacky's dog wedding, the family agrees François is a 'beastly pig' for not knowing his anniversary date and giving selfish presents for his mother's birthday. The women strike for a day and beat up innocent men. François decides to better his life as her birthday is coming up and plans a great surprise with Franky. However the gift for Blacky crosses that.
- After reading about hospital staff reductions, the family considers taking a First Aid course. Trust granny to be ahead and see the big picture: she starts running her own ambulance. Alas she recruits her patients by wounding and kidnapping them on the street. She shouldn't have bothered: the girls' version of Antonio's guacamole is just as unhealthy.
- Cois and Maria are designated "Customer of the Year" by the telephone company. When learning their most recent bill has beaten the company record, they furiously start to look for the culprit.
- When contracting firm Megabeton's CEO, François's employer Devis, accepts to dine at the Backeljau home. They hope for a promotion and pull all the stops to make it a memorable event. It will be, but not in any sense that was part of the plan.
- After an article in the paper and an essay and some explanation about the essentials by little Lionel on environmental problems, even Francky and Sabrina realize it's time for action and decide to switch to vegetarianism like the Dutchmen across the street; when they invite these, they get dragged into a committee to save a basketball court, and granny does a damned good job. Then it appears the project is executed by dad's employer De Vis' firm, so he family income is at stake; when the entrepreneur visits their home...
