In 1976, if you had told fourteen-year-old Franciscan seminary student Thomas Cruise Mapother IV that one day in the not too distant future he would be Tom Cruise, one of the top 100 movie stars of all time, he would have probably grinned and told you that his ambition was to join the priesthood. Nonetheless, this sensitive, deeply religious youngster who was born in 1962 in Syracuse, New York, was destined to become one of the highest paid and most sought after actors in screen history.
Tom is the only son (among four children) of nomadic parents, Mary Lee (Pfeiffer), a special education teacher, and Thomas Cruise Mapother III, an electrical engineer. His parents were both from Louisville, Kentucky, and he has German, Irish, and English ancestry. Young Tom spent his boyhood always on the move, and by the time he was 14 he had attended 15 different schools in the U.S. and Canada. He finally settled in Glen Ridge, New Jersey with his mother and her new husband. While in high school, Tom wanted to become a priest but pretty soon he developed an interest in acting and abandoned his plans of becoming a priest, dropped out of school, and at age 18 headed for New York and a possible acting career. The next 15 years of his life are the stuff of legends. He made his film debut with a small part in Endless Love (1981) and from the outset exhibited an undeniable box office appeal to both male and female audiences.
With handsome movie star looks and a charismatic smile, within 5 years Tom Cruise was starring in some of the top-grossing films of the 1980s including Top Gun (1986); The Color of Money (1986), Rain Man (1988) and Born on the Fourth of July (1989). By the 1990s he was one of the highest-paid actors in the world earning an average 15 million dollars a picture in such blockbuster hits as Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994), Mission: Impossible (1996) and Jerry Maguire (1996), for which he received an Academy Award Nomination for best actor. Tom Cruise's biggest franchise, Mission Impossible, has also earned a total of 3 billion dollars worldwide. Tom Cruise has also shown lots of interest in producing, with his biggest producer credits being the Mission Impossible franchise.
In 1990 he renounced his devout Catholic beliefs and embraced The Church of Scientology claiming that Scientology teachings had cured him of the dyslexia that had plagued him all of his life. A kind and thoughtful man well known for his compassion and generosity, Tom Cruise is one of the best liked members of the movie community. He was married to actress Nicole Kidman until 2001. Thomas Cruise Mapother IV has indeed come a long way from the lonely wanderings of his youth to become one of the biggest movie stars ever.- Stunts

Robert Alonzo's journey through the film business began early on in the city of Angels. He started with his passion of animation at age six, when he began drawing flip pages of his favorite cartoons. He continued this until he was ultimately introduced to an obsession of martial arts that would last a lifetime. He first began his training with his brother at a very young age and earned black belts in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido with Grandmaster Jun Chong. But Robert's devotion to martial arts was constantly fueled by the hunger for knowledge in all styles. This approach led him to train in multiple disciplines and to compete and excel in various international martial arts competitions.
Although Robert's dedication to martial arts was self evident, his childhood dreams of film making continued with an academic scholarship to Loyola Marymount University, where he earned his BA degree in Studio Arts and Communication Studies, while minoring in Animation and Business Marketing. This is where Robert trained under Dan McLaughlin and made his first hand drawn animated senior thesis film titled the "The Dive of Life". Upon graduation, Robert dabbled in the commercial world as a Junior Art Director at Envision Group, but ultimately his love for martial arts and film came calling and led him to become a stunt performer.
Robert has accumulated over 200 credits in film, television, commercials, and music videos and worked extensively and repeatedly with A-list talent both in front and behind the camera. This who's who list includes Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Dwayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, Jeremy Renner, Joel Edgerton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Noomi Rapace, Milla Jovovich, Morgan Freeman, Taraji P. Henson, David Oyelowo, Chris Pine, Charlize Theron, Josh Brolin, Cameron Diaz, Jason Momoa, Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, Doug Liman, Jospeh Kosinski, Chris McQuarrie, Tim Miller, Brad Bird, Albert Hughes, and David Ayer.
Bringing with him an extensive international resume as a Stunt Performer, Fight Choreographer, Stunt Coordinator and Action/2nd Unit Director, Robert combines his creative storytelling ability with his wide array of live action filmmaking techniques, coupled with his broad knowledge of today's use of visual/special effects to provide unforgettable action that spans a variety of genres. His 2nd Unit directing credits include Oblivion, Tomorrowland, Deadpool, Proud Mary, Bright, Braven, and Alpha. Also, at Brad Bird's request, he worked closely with the storyboard artists and animators of the highly anticipated Disney Pixar's release of Incredibles 2 to help formulate character driven action that displays the physics of live action filmmaking.- Stunts

I'm Allen Fogle and I am proud to serve the musicians of Los Angeles as a Director on the Executive Board of the AFM's Local 47. I am a freelance French Horn player, a member of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and an AFM member (Locals 47, 7, & 325) since 2009. My goals are to make our union more inclusive, to inspire active participation from all members, and to build relationships with new employers while providing protection for musicians. The union IS its membership, so let's work together to create more opportunities for our community.
Originally from Augusta, GA, I graduated from the Eastman School of Music and was first introduced to the AFM subbing with the orchestras in Rochester and Buffalo before moving to Los Angeles for graduate school at USC in 2008.
In the past few years, I have become a more active participant in the union, serving on the New Building Committee, helping negotiate the Metropolitan CBA, and organizing members to fight for a fair streaming contract through the Contract Action Team. It has been truly energizing to see what our organization can accomplish when our members collaborate together. For me, the union has become something that I actively want to participate in rather than just an office I rely on if there's a problem at work.
Key values I wish to pursue during my tenure are:
INCLUSIVITY
We have an incredibly talented and diverse musical community in Los Angeles that performs in every type of venue and genre that you can think of. If we can grow our membership, we have the opportunity to provide greater workplace protections for more musicians, but we as a union also benefit immensely from the great breadth of experience that a broader membership provides.
I want to create an environment where all members feel appreciated and represented, instead of one that feels like an exclusive club. It's important to keep a finger on the pulse of the needs of our membership. Outreach to newer and younger players is also crucial, and we must reach out to show the value that comes from collective participation.
ACTIVE PARTICIPATION
For the first few years of my AFM membership, my only interaction with the union came through work dues statements. Once I began attending general membership meetings, I was struck by the passion that players, both young and old, brought to the table. I realized that "The Union" isn't some staff in an office building; it's "us".
Through my participation on the Contract Action Team, I got to know so many of our members that I hadn't gotten the opportunity to just as a Horn player. Seeing players from all points in their careers banding together to demand fair treatment was truly inspiring.
By participating more, I felt like I was more represented; my voice was heard. I believe that cultivating this active participation by all members will lead to greater representation and ensure that we always have new and creative ways to solve the challenges we face.- Make-Up Department
