Tyler Slater Jensen was born in Orono, Minnesota to Curt, a software engineer and Julie, an elementary school teacher. He has two younger brothers Christopher and Michael. Tyler grew up participating in outdoor activities at his family's lake home cabin often being seen playing baseball, hunting, fishing, and boating. At age 13, Tyler and his family were stricken by tragedy when he learned his father was diagnosed with cancer. His father passed away a short time later leaving Tyler's mom to raise her three young sons. As the eldest son, Tyler quickly matured and took on the responsibility of having to be the man of the house in order to help his mother and siblings.
He attended West Tonka High School in Mound, Minnesota, where he excelled in Varsity Baseball and became All-State his senior year. After high school, he enrolled at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, to play baseball and worked in the summer as a landscaper on Lake Minnetonka. During his junior year, a friend encouraged Tyler to get some photos taken for a modeling agency. His exotic appearance, derived from his Icelandic and Scandinavian ancestry, caught immediate attention of the fashion world. His modeling career took off where he progressed into working with a number of fashion companies, most notably Abercrombie & Fitch, from which he received considerable public exposure. He appeared in numerous editorials, as well as several campaigns and catalogs. He became the premier male model for Guess and the face of Calvin Klein. He lived in Spain, New York and Miami for a span of five years in addition to traveling extensively worldwide.
Tyler segued into an acting career, landing his first acting role in the independent film Spun starring Jason Schwartzman, Brittany Murphy, and Mickey Rourke. In 2004, he was cast as Bucky Helberg in FOX's sitcom "Quintuplets" starring Andy Richter. His breakthrough film was "Finding Rin-Tin-Tin" where he starred as 'Corporeal Lee Duncan" alongside award-winning actor Ben Cross. The film revisits the legendary story about the famous dog found by Duncan during World War I.
