- Stephen Hill is a writer, publisher and venture capitalist. His published works are in the PPE/history space; his latest work was The Philosophy of Art in 2014. He is the Founder of Duckworth Literary Entertainments - DLE, in 1998. (See www.duckeditions.co.uk). He published Iris and Layer Cake when no other publisher would touch them. They both became celebrated movies: Iris, the bio of Iris Murdoch played by Dame Judi Dench, won an Oscar; and Layer Cake, the story of a drug-dealer getting snagged by one last job when he had decided to take very early retirement with a cool £1.0 million cash in his bank account. Hill took this book to Matthew Vaughn who directed the strong cast, which landed Daniel Craig the 007 role; Michael Gambon, Sienna Miller, Dragan Micanovic, Colm Meaney, Kenneth Cranham and Ben Whishaw played memorable supporting roles. Hill's idea for DLE was to capture the copyright to avant-garde material, from screenplays to novellas, for development as screenplays for the silver and TV screens. The latest writer signed by Hill for a mini-series is Brendan O'Casey, on Secret Intelligence Service matters, but with the double-cross and sex in the sizzle. He has also written his own first screenplay, Deadly Peril, a true WW2 story of covert operations behind enemy lines for two star-crossed lovers, who both met their deaths at the hands of the Gestapo, which he researched across six countries for over ten years.
