Peter O'Brien is an Australian actor, best known for his role as an original cast member of the Australian soap opera Neighbours as Shane Ramsay. O'Brien was born in the South Australian town of Murray Bridge, located 76 km south-east of the state capital Adelaide. He started off as a teacher at Mercedes College, a private Catholic school in the Adelaide suburb of Springfield.
In the 1980s, Peter ventured into acting, scoring roles in various Australian television series. He played a regular role in short-lived soap opera Starting Out (1983), then had guest roles in Carson's Law in 1983 and Prisoner in 1984 and appeared in The Henderson Kids. He was then cast as Shane Ramsey, a regular original character in soap opera Neighbours on the Seven Network in 1985. He became one of the serial's most popular cast members, continuing in the series until 1987. He then played a leading regular role in drama series The Flying Doctors from 1988 until 1991. In 1994, O'Brien sent up his soap opera star past by taking a regular role in Psycho Ward 10, a soap opera parody in The All New Alexei Sayle Show.
O'Brien took on the role of surgical registrar Mr. Cyril "Scissors" Smedley in the popular BBC series Cardiac Arrest (TV series) through the second and third series between 1995 and 1996. He later, starred in television series Queer as Folk, White Collar Blue, Hell Has Harbour Views and Gossip Girl.
O'Brien has appeared in numerous mini-series, including The Day of the Roses and Through My Eyes (the story of Lindy Chamberlain). He has also guest starred on numerous television series, including Halifax f.p.. For his work, O'Brien has won Australian Film Institute and Logie Awards. He also appeared as Carl Morgan in Spellbinder: Land of the Dragon Lord, and he appeared in the 1998 Australian/Brisbane comedy television series of Minty. In 2009 he played Sydney underworld figure and racing identity George Freeman in the series Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities.
O'Brien was part of the cast of BBC Television series Casualty as a new consultant called Stitch. He has also appeared in ITV1s police drama The Bill in which he played Detective Inspector Peter Kavanaugh, a corrupt officer who seduces Detective Sergeant Samantha Nixon to gain information for the criminals he works for. He appeared as Ed in "The Waters of Mars", the second of the 2009 specials of Doctor Who. He later reprised his role as George Freeman in the follow up in the Underbelly series the Golden Mile.
O'Brien has won several acting awards in his career. He won two Logie Awards - one in 1987 for the 'Most Popular Actor' (for his role in Neighbours) and one in 2003 for the 'Most Outstanding Actor' (for his role in White Collar Blue).- Writer

Peter O'Brien was raised in Mill Valley, California, and graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in English. Peter's original script, Unlocked, made the Black List and was released in 2017. It stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Douglas, Orlando Bloom, and John Malkovich. Veteran filmmaker Michael Apted directed.
As a screenwriter, Peter has numerous feature projects in development: These include an adaptation of Robert Ludlum's The Chancellor Manuscript for director Marc Forster, the thriller Line of Sight for director Ben Affleck, the psychological thriller Trust Your Eyes for director Todd Phillips, and The Jury for 20th Century Studios, based on Peter Morgan's British TV series.
Peter has worked extensively in video games. In 2019, he was Story Lead on Golem, a pioneering Virtual Reality title from Highwire Games, developed for Sony PlaystationVR. In 2012 he was Writing Lead on Halo: Reach, the fourth installment in Bungie and Microsoft's iconic video game franchise.
Oscar winner River Road Entertainment (Twelve Years A Slave) is producing Peter's latest script, Peril, which chronicles the true story of the first woman to command a merchant vessel around Cape Horn. Peter is also attached to direct his Brazil-set MMA crime thriller, Cut, with an eye on the growing Latin American market.- Director

Peter James O'Brien has been involved in the visual and performing arts for many years. He started out in High School taking Video and Theater courses and pursued both on a personal level outside of school up to present day. He is also a gifted writer able to transcend styles, techniques and concepts. He has worked on short film projects, documenting concert footage, and writing and creating some colorful characters and concepts. Peter O'Brien, a Jersey born executive producer, started his career in the entertainment industry as a songwriter and composer. In 1994, he was accepted into The Guild of International Songwriters & Composers in London.
In 2017, Peter began searching for something new and was particularly interested in getting involved in the British film industry.
His first venture in the world of British films came in May 2018 with the supernatural film, The Heiress, which was based on a true story. This has been his most enjoyable project to date and was directed by Chris Bell, alongside Danny Prescott and Jezz Vernon. The film featured a wide range of British actors such as Candis Nergaard, Jayne Wisener and David Schaal. Peter and his daughter Chloe had small cameo roles.
2019, Peter was next involved and credited in the film Once Upon a Time in London. This British crime drama, directed by Simon Rumley, follows the notorious gangsters Billy Hill and Jack Corner and their lives before the Krays. It stars Leo Gregory, Holly Earl, and Dominic Keating, among others.
Peter, having quickly learned about the industry and gained more knowledge of how these projects come to fruition by going onto the film sets and attending the Premiers, teamed up with his good friend of 30 years Keith Badman, a FOCAL international Award-Nominated archive footage researcher/producer, author, historian and journalist, to write a very interesting story. Through the dreaded lock-down, the two of them collaborated together and worked on a number of projects. Details to be announced shortly. They have just finished their first venture, a story based on one of the biggest legends in the world. Watch this space!
