Michael is an award-winning artist based out of NYC. As a filmmaker, Michael has written, directed, produced and starred in several short films as well as the feature Maybe Tomorrow, which won glowing reviews and numerous awards on the festival circuit before securing distribution with Entertainment One. A member of the WGA, he has written twenty-plus scripts including the rom-com Rich Boy, Rich Girl which was distributed by Vertical Entertainment.
As a member of SAG-AFTRA, Michael has appeared on HBO's The Deuce, ABC's For Life and numerous independent films. Also a member of AEA, Michael has appeared on stage in countless NYC productions. A well-known, award-winning poet and writer, UPF co-founder Michael was publisher of Tombouctou Books, a small press that published poetry and avant garde prose, for fifteen years. Michael's first books on Islam were The Hadj, One Thousand Roads to Mecca, and Taking Back Islam: American Muslims Reclaim Their Faith (editor), which won a 2003 Wilbur Award. On screen and behind the scenes, Michael has been involved with television since 1997, when he hosted a televised account of the Hajj from Mecca for Nightline, which was nominated for multiple awards.
