As a director, screenwriter, and producer, four-time Academy Award nominee Michael Mann has established himself as one of the most innovative and influential filmmakers in American cinema. After writing and directing the Primetime Emmy Award-winning television movie The Jericho Mile (1979), Mann made his feature-film directorial debut with Thief (1981), followed by executive producing the television series Miami Vice (1984). He went on to direct Manhunter (1986), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Heat (1995), and The Insider (1999), Ali (2001), Collateral (2004), a film adaptation of Miami Vice (2006), Public Enemies (2009), and Blackhat (2015).
As a producer, Mann's work includes Martin Scorsese's The Aviator (2004), Hancock (2008), Texas Killing Fields (2011), and the HBO series Luck (2011) and Witness (2012). He has been a member of the Directors Guild of America since 1977 and has served on the DGA's National Board.- Actor

Directed and Choreographed for the Stage, Barnum 2nd National Co., Barnum Bus & Truck, Home Sweet Homer on B'way, Gypsy for summer stock, Night of the Bear off B'way, Astra Pharmaceuticals, Oldsmobile Industrial Show three years). was stage combat choreographer for the B'way production of Passion (directed by Frank Langella).
From 1966-69 served as an Airborne-Ranger during the Viet Nam war, receiving the Air Medal and the Bronze Star for Valor, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant, the youngest man to achieve that rank in the Army at that time. Other honors and achievements were Honor Graduate of the Third Army NCO Academy, Honor Graduate of the Pathfinder School, Honor Graduate of Jump School. After my Service in Viet Nam, I was one of the founders of the Veteran's Ensemble Theatre, a professional theatrical group designed to overcome the prejudice of the theatrical industry against Viet Nam Veterans. I also traveled to many VA hospitals and veterans groups to speak about how even though society was anti Viet Nam, and veterans, at the time, Veterans could not use that as an excuse to fail in life. Dr. Michael E. Mann is Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science at Penn State University, with joint appointments in the Department of Geosciences and the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI). He is also director of the Penn State Earth System Science Center (ESSC).
Dr. Mann received his undergraduate degrees in Physics and Applied Math from the University of California at Berkeley, an M.S. degree in Physics from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in Geology & Geophysics from Yale University. His research involves the use of theoretical models and observational data to better understand Earth's climate system.
Dr. Mann has received a number of honors and awards including NOAA's outstanding publication award in 2002 and selection by Scientific American as one of the fifty leading visionaries in science and technology in 2002. He contributed, with other IPCC authors, to the award of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. He was awarded the Hans Oeschger Medal of the European Geosciences Union in 2012 and was awarded the National Conservation Achievement Award for science by the National Wildlife Federation in 2013. He made Bloomberg News' list of fifty most influential people in 2013. In 2014, he was named Highly Cited Researcher by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) and received the Friend of the Planet Award from the National Center for Science Education. He is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Dr. Mann has published two books including Dire Predictions: Understanding Climate Change and The Hockey Stick and the Climate Wars: Dispatches from the Front Lines, with a third-The Madhouse Effect, co-authored with Washington Post editorial cartoonist Tom Toles-due out this fall He is also a co-founder of the award-winning science website RealClimate.org.- Additional Crew
