Kevin James O'Neill was born in Sacramento, California. After high school Kevin enlisted in the US Army and was assigned duty as a telephone lineman. After his spell in the military he attended Brevard Community College where he took classes in Fire Technology. He was recruited as a full-time firefighter by the Merritt Island Fire department as a result of his fine record as a volunteer firefighter. He was required to take an elective in Brevard Community College so he signed up for their drama classes. The first day in class he was cast immediately for a part in Bye Bye Birdy and although it was a small part in the play, he fell in love with acting. From that play a director cast him as Vince Fontaine in Grease. During his six years as a firefighter while attending Brevard Community College he did about 25 Plays, including lead roles in plays like "Deathtrap", "Bus Stop", "Dracula" and "Born Yesterday". He left the fire department in 1984 and moved to Orlando to pursue his dreams as an actor. He was soon cast in the film D.A.R.Y.L. directed by "Simon Wincer". After being cast in several commercials, building up his resume and becoming a SAG member he felt it was time to move to Los Angeles to further pursue his dreams. Kevin lived in Los Angeles for ten years in the 80's working in television and film and over 100 national television commercials. He worked on shows like "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman", "Beverly Hills 90121"and "Highway to Heaven." In the last two decades, Kevin has worked as a film director writing and directing short films through his production company Kevin O'Neill Productions. Kevin has written and directed the short films, "Screaming into the Wind", "Break", "Clark", "Captain Fin", "Lean", "Undertaking", "Swipe", "Perception", "Man in the Woods." His film "Undertaking" starred Los Angeles veteran Eddie Jemison and it would go on to win ten film festivals. Kevin has written the feature scripts "The Craftsman", "Resemblance", "50 Hours", "Thundersmack", "Trestles", "The Flamingo Kid" and "Pathfinder." Kevin is a Course Director at Full Sail University where he has taught directing for the last two decades. Kevin is always mentoring Full Sail students and he continues to teach acting in the Orlando area.- Visual Effects

Kevin M. O'Neill is known for his groundbreaking Visual Effects work on numerous film and television productions.. In the early 1980s, Kevin attended Ithaca College Park School of Photography and Cinema Studies. His time at the institution allowed him to explore his creative interests and hone his skills in photography and cinema. In 1983, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Photography and Cinema Studies.
After completing his education, Kevin made his way to Manhattan, where he landed a role as a Production Coordinator on the film "Deathmask," starring Farley Granger and Danny Aiello and produced by Lou Scher.
In July 1984, Kevin moved to Hollywood, California, and joined Visual Concept Engineering (VCE), a cutting-edge Visual Effects Facility founded by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Kuran. At VCE, Kevin received training in various aspects of traditional Photo Optical Visual Effects production. His early work included contributions to films like "Beetlejuice," directed by Tim Burton.
In 1987, Kevin was presented with an opportunity to expand the Optical Department at Consolidated Film Industries (CFI), adding Visual Effects services to the studio's impressive roster of Motion Picture and Television clientele. During his time at CFI, he earned his first Visual Effects Supervision credits, working on several films, including "FEAR," produced by award-winning producer Richard Kobritz. It was also during this time that he collaborated with producer Rob Tapert and director Sam Raimi on projects like "Army of Darkness" and "Darkman."
Kevin's expertise in visual effects production led to an invitation to join Apogee, a VFX studio founded by John Dykstra. He became part of the newly formed team responsible for expanding into CGI VFX Production. During his tenure at Apogee, Kevin and his team integrated Desktop CGI into various commercial and television productions, leaving a mark in the industry.
In 1992, Kevin made a significant career move by becoming an independent VFX Supervisor. He collaborated with notable figures such as Rafaela DeLaurentis and Rob Cohen on "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" and contributed to several VFX sequences in Francis Coppola's "Dracula."
After a brief period of independence, Kevin rejoined Visual Concept Engineering (VCE) as a studio VFX Supervisor. He worked on a series of successful productions, including "Addam's Family Values," "Last Action Hero," and Mel Brooks' "Robin Hood: Men in Tights." During this time, Kevin teamed up with Rob Tapert and Renaissance Pictures to work on the popular "Hercules" movies for Universal Studios. His dedication and expertise earned him the role of series VFX Supervisor when Universal Studios green-lit "Hercules, the Legendary Journeys."
Founding Flat Earth Productions
In 1995, Kevin co-founded Flat Earth Productions, Inc., an award-winning VFX studio that quickly gained a reputation for its innovative work. The studio handled a wide range of visual effects for television shows like "Hercules" and "Xena Warrior Princess," feature films such as "Blade" and "Piranha 3D," as well as large format productions like "Voyage in Time" and "Soarin' Over Tokyo" for Disney Imagineering.
Venturing into Directing
In 2003, Kevin was presented with the opportunity to direct "Dinocroc," a film that kick-started a series of popular creature features on the SyFy Channel. His directing career has flourished alongside his continued efforts in guiding the development of Flat Earth Productions, Inc.
With more than two decades of experience in the industry, Kevin M. O'Neill has left an indelible mark on the world of visual effects and filmmaking. In 2021, he retired Flat Earth Productions, Inc., leaving behind a thriving studio that paved the way for bleeding-edge visual effects.
In 2022 he joined the VFX team on the SkyDance Television show "Fubar," which garnered significant attention and was picked up for a second season on Netflix.
With extensive experience designing, creating and producing VFX projects as a Facility manager and Studio Supervisor, Kevin is available to manage and oversee VFX Projects across the entire spectrum of Visual Effects Production.- Kevin O'Neill was born on 22 August 1953 in London, England, UK. Kevin is a professional and passionate multi-award winning filmmaker with experience in film & television production, advertising and distribution. He has learned first hand from shadowing established directors on set such as: Andrew Dominik, Jim Sheridan, Ken Girotti, Julian Jarrold & Agnes Merlet and has had directing master-classes with Mike Leigh, Luis Mandoki and Mark Romanek. He has over 20,000 hours of film and broadcast editing experience & was mentored in film editing by Emma E. Hickox.
He is an Irish and Mexican citizen fluent in both, English and Spanish languages. His background also spreads to creative development, on-air promotion, event panel moderating and speaker alike. He is an experienced team leader with limitless ambition and a drive to taking the creative lead whilst inspiring others, listening and collaborating to achieve the best possible result for the project at hand.
He is a multi award-winning director, producer and editor with over 16 years in the business and a proven track record in conception, production and delivery of content. He has successfully created and managed crowd-funding campaigns for feature films. Extremely motivated creative who is passionate about the whole process, enthused by exigent projects and briefs and constantly full of ideas. In 2013 he spent 5 weeks in Africa co-producing, directing and editing a 4-part TV-documentary series commissioned by EWTN on the life of the Pallottines. This series aired globally on November-2015.
He produced, directed and edited his multi award-winning debut feature film "The Hit Producer", which opened in Irish cinemas on October 2015 and had an extended release on January 2016 through Omniplex and had a theatrical distribution in Mexico through Cinemex in 2018.
He recently directed the RTE/Filmbase short film "Acorn" for which he won a Kinsale Gold Shark award for Best Director.- Production Designer
