John Harrison began his career directing rock videos and working as 1st Asst. Director for famed horror director,George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead (1968)/Creepshow (1982)). Harrison wrote and directed multiple episodes of Romero's classic TV series,Tales from the Darkside (1983)m], before helming Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990), for Paramount Pictures, which won Harrison the Grand Prix du Festival at Avoriaz, France. Harrison co-wrote the animated feature,Dinosaur (2000), for Disney. He also wrote the adaptation of Clive Barker's fantasy novels, "Abarat", also for Disney. In the Fall of '06, Harrison reunited with mentor George Romero to produce Romero's film, Diary of the Dead (2007). His action suspense thriller, Blank Slate (2008), for producer Dean Devlin, which Harrison wrote and directed, aired as a twenty-episode micro-series on TNT in the Fall of 2008. Clive Barker's Book of Blood (2009), which he wrote and directed, was released in the Fall 2009. His 6-hour miniseries adaptation of Frank Herbert's monumental bestseller, Dune (2000), which he directed, was an Emmy Award-winning success in the U.S., then internationally, both in its broadcast premieres and subsequently in home video. Harrison's Children of Dune (2003), another 6-hour miniseries encompassing the next two novels of Frank Herbert's mythic adventure series which he wrote and co-produced, was also an Emmy winner for the Sci-Fi Channel.- Director

John Harrison is a freelance writer and film historian based in Melbourne, Australia who has written for such film-related publications as Fatal Visions, Cult Movies, Is it Uncut?, Filmink, The Headpress Journal, Monster!, Weng's Chop and Metro, as well as penning reviews and liner notes for many DVD and VHS releases from Something Weird Video. John has also written the best-selling Headpress book Hip Pocket Sleaze: The Lurid World of Vintage Adult Paperbacks (which featured a chapter on film tie-in paperbacks), and has recently composed the booklet essays for the Australian Blu-ray releases of Thirst, Dead Kids, Snapshot and The Survivor for Glass Doll Films.
Currently, John is co-writing Cartwheels & Halos and Rolling With The Punches, two books on the life of actress/singer and former Hollywood stunt woman Marneen Fields, whom he married in Las Vegas in March of 2016. He is also working on a third book called Wildcat!, about the films of Marjoe Gortner, a former child evangelist who turned to acting as an adult and starred in a number of entertaining and interesting exploitation and drive-in films.
John has also appeared regularly on film-related radio and television shows such as Film Buff's Forecast and Video in Focus, and has provided live on-stage introductions for various screening put on by the Cinemaniacs film society in Melbourne, including The Warriors, Flash Gordon, Bloodsucking Freaks and, most recently, Bless the Beasts and Children.- Actor

- Harrison, John Ray (1930~2001) John Ray Harrison, former member of the Texas House of Representatives, District Judge, and four-time mayor of Pasadena, Texas, was born in Abilene, Texas, on August 2, 1930. He graduated from Abilene High School and McMurry College. He earned his doctor of jurisprudence degree from South Texas School of Law. Prior to embarking on a distinguished political career, her served as a police officer, classroom teacher, coach, youth counselor and professional baseball player. He also practiced law for 26 years as a partner in the law firm of Cammack, Harrison and Coman.
In 1964, Mr. Harrison was elected to the Texas House of Representatives. While in Austin, he introduced the bill that raised the minimum age for school attendance from 16 to 17. He also introduced a toddler's bill, which has since been the model of many municipal ordinances requiring public pools to be fenced for the protection of small children. Following this service, he was elected for two consecutive terms to the Pasadena City Council. He was elected Mayor of the City of Pasadena, Texas in 1973; reelected in 1977, 1985, and 1989. Mr. Harrison was appointed State District Judge in 1973, elected State District Judge in 1982, and most recently, served as a visiting State Judge.
Harrison played the mayor of the town in the 1991 movie Rush, filed in Pasadena, Texas (where he was a four-time mayor), but based on a scandal in the town of Tyler, Texas. - Producer
