James Andrew Fraser was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. He is of Scottish, Irish and Flemish ancestry. His father Donald Andrew Fraser is a retired executive of a Canadian grocery store chain; his mother Bernice Ina (nee VanDeKerckhove) is a nurse. His fascination with acting was sparked when a babysitter told him that Daniel Day-Lewis was "just pretending" in "My Left Foot". He had his first taste of "pretending" playing a chick in his Kindergarten class play. He continued acting in school productions but in High School he choose sports over the theatre as being an actor seemed like an impossible dream.
However, he didn't stay away too long as James auditioned on a whim for a production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and was cast as Demetrius. The following year he attended St. Francis Xavier Univeristy in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Once again he pushed his dream aside and played on the Rugby team but after he injured his shoulder for the second time he finally got involved with Theatre Antigonish. He acted in six of their productions ranging from Musicals to Shakespeare.
Doing what was expected of him he moved back to Calgary and worked in Finance. A little while later with his promotion papers sitting in front of him, he refused to sign and quit to pursue his dream. Shorly after James and his friends made a short about distracted driving entitled "Trafford Road" it screened the following year at the Edmonton International Film Festival. James then moved to Toronto to help propel his acting career.
In Toronto, James was cast in film, television, and commercials. He also produced and directed some of his award winning writing (Fresh Voices Top Ten & Semi-Finalist). After performing for renowned acting coach Tom Todoroff he was offered a spot at his Conservatory in NYC.
James now lives and works between Canada and the U.S. You can see him on "The Enemy Within", "Bull", "Blue Bloods", and "The Blacklist" or starring in "TAPE" a web series he directed, co-wrote, and produced which was on Amazon Prime for two years and is now available on Amazon VOD. "Dark Horse" (a web series on BRTBTV with over 500K followers) or in numerous short films one of which "Buffalo" James was nominated for "Best Actor" at the Madrid Internaitonal Film Festival and at PIIF (Prague International Indie Film Festival) as well as on @_lion_eyez an instagram account inspired by his short of the same name which is in development. And let's not forget The "Gabriel's Inferno" Series based on the NY Times Bestselling Books. James snagged one of the coveted lead roles in the production. All nine films are streaming now on Passionflix, a romance streaming service founded by Tosca Musk.
Catch him next in "Tuesday's Flu" alongside Oscar Nominated Jackie Earle Haley, Ross Marquand, and Daniel Roebuck...- Actor, writer, director and dramatist, Fraser James MacLeod has been moving increasingly into film. He can be seen in Lasse Hallström's new biopic "Hilma", as well as the multi award-winning short film "Anti-Utopia" by Michael Roth.
Fraser has recently played the theatrical lead in a one-man "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, the new play "Bothwell, Prisoner of Malmö" - written by himself, and "Iphigenia at Olympus" by Ajius. He has directed, amongst others, Anton Chekhov's "The Boor", Ira Levin's "Deathtrap" and Anthony Shaffer's "Sleuth", as well as making star turns in "The Pavilion" by Craig Wright and Eric Bogosian's "SubUrbia", directed by Kasper Sejersen.
This performer with Scottish roots, studied drama growing up in Newcastle in the north of England and followed it up by studying theatre at the University of Derby. After a move to Sweden, further English and drama studies at Malmö University and a teaching career, Fraser has turned his passion for creativity into a promising career in the arts. - Ruby Fraser is an actor from Louisville, KY.
