John David Allen is a New York-based film editor who has cut more than 20 critically acclaimed feature films, as well as numerous television shows, documentaries, and award-winning shorts.
Allen has collaborated on five films with legendary director James Ivory, beginning with The Golden Bowl starring Uma Thurman and Nick Nolte. Lauded as "James Ivory's masterpiece" when it premiered at Cannes, the film was followed by the comedy Le Divorce starring Naomi Watts and Kate Hudson, winning prizes for both Ivory and Watts at the Venice Film Festival. Kazuo Ishiguro's The White Countess with Ralph Fiennes and Natasha Richardson followed next, shot and edited in Shanghai. The City of Your Final Destination starring Anthony Hopkins, Laura Linney and Charlotte Gainsbourg and cut by Allen was James Ivory's last feature as director.
Allen has twice collaborated with Australian director Bruce Beresford, editing the comedy Peace, Love and Misunderstanding with Jane Fonda and Catherine Keener, and the miniseries Bonnie & Clyde, which was nominated for multiple Emmys and other awards. Other thrillers he's cut include Mojave starring Oscar Isaac and Garret Hedlund with director William Monahan, and Bette Gordon's The Drowning starring Josh Charles and Julia Stiles.
More recently Allen cut Ondi Timoner's Mapplethorpe, and two films by director John Swab, Body Brokers and Ida Red, which premiered at Locarno International Film Festival. Daughter of the Bride, starring Marcia Gay Harden and Aidan Quinn he edited for director Annette Haywood-Carter.
Allen has also cut numerous documentaries, including episodes of Richard Linklater's series That Animal Rescue Show on Paramount +, Sublime with director Bill Guttentag, and Fast Histories for the History Channel. In addition to editing, Allen has directed numerous short films, including the award-winning Love And Roadkill, which won Best Short at the Williamstown Film Festival and screened at more than 15 national and international festivals.
Allen teaches editing in the graduate film program at Columbia University and has been a visiting artist at numerous other film schools. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and son.- Producer

His feature film experience includes the Independent Spirit nominated best feature Paranoid Park. Narrative and documentary work that includes Honorable Mention at the Sundance Film Festival. David Allen Norton began performing at the age of six participating in many theater productions. He was cast as Jem in To Kill a Mockingbird at the age of nine in a professional equity production with Dallas Theater Center and Casa Manana with 51 performances. He was also cast in three other professional equity shows in the largest theaters in Dallas which gave him the opportunity to work with many professional actors, choreographers and directors from around the nation. At the same time he found his passion for film and commercials. He has been training in acting, commercial and film for many years. David Allen has shot many national and worldwide commercials, industrial films, short and independent films, feature films and earned a television role on a NBC episodic and has also done print work. He attends one of the best arts magnet schools in the nation after a rigorous audition to get in.

David Allen runs Passion Planet producing specialist factual and nature productions for landmark television and theatrical release documentaries. He has four documentary Emmy's to his name and five Wildscreen Panda awards. David' first film Flying Devils for National Geographic won an Emmy for Cinematography, his genre-busting series "Bug World" earned another Emmy for directing. More recently, "My life as a Turkey" described by the Times as "probably the best documentary of the Year" won him his fourth Emmy, an RTS award, a Grierson Nomination and Wildscreen's best of festival Golden Panda.

David Allen was born on January 11th, 1987. Growing up in Kettering, Ohio, he would often receive his own shows as assemblies while attending Kettering's Van Buren Middle School. In the shows he would perform various impressions of the school staff and related materials. It was the response from these shows that drove him into doing comedy. In addition to performing Stand-Up at the young age of 14, he also began associating himself with film and television production. While still in school, he landed production projects involving World Wrestling Entertainment and focused much of his energy on design and motion graphics. Those skills are offered forth in most of his projects today. Upon graduating, David Allen joined Jason Hardwick and Alex Mangen in premiering their sketch comedy venture, titled Left of Center. The show premiered theatrically, selling out its engagements, and spun off "viral sensations" that began airing on MTV and CW programming. Since then, Allen has honed his craft, training and performing, at Chicago's The Second City and ImprovOlympic, as well as, famed Los Angeles establishment, The Groundlings.
