Born in Barrow-in-Furness in the north of England. Grew up in Manchester. Studied Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Nottingham. Has lived in the USA (1978-79 & 2001 to present), London (early 1980s), Paris (15 years) and Valencia, Spain (1986-87). Resident in New York. First films were experimental shorts influenced by Wenders and Tarkovsky. Began script-writing in Paris. Joined newly formed Canal Plus TV station. First commissioned script was double-header in animation series, 'Blake and Mortimer'. Worked with veteran blockbuster producer Alex Salkind. Uncredited crew and production member on many French short films in the 1990s. Held post at Pandora, Paris, in script development department in late 90s. Intermittent production/direction of documentaries and shorts - Entropie (1999) (short film) won prize at Houston Worldfest in 2000. Mad Dog Prosecutors (full length doc) won Best Documentary at NY International film and video festival 2003. Has produced, shot, edited and directed video installations and short films for the past 15 years, while working as a video editor and cameraman. Also writes screenplays and continues to 'script-doctor' and consult in various countries in Europe, North and South America. Married with one adult son.- A graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in painting, P. Craig Russell has run the gamut in comics. After establishing a name for himself at Marvel on Killraven and Dr. Strange. he went on to become one of the pioneers in opening new vistas for this underestimated field with, among other works, adaptations of operas by Mozart (The Magic Flute), Strauss (Salome) and Wagner (The Ring of the Nibelung). Russell is also well-known for his Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde series as well as his graphic novel adaptations of Neil Gaiman's Murder Mysteries and Coraline. He was profiled in the 2009 documentary, Night Music: The Art of P. Craig Russell, and is featured in the educational video series, P. Craig Russell's Guide to Graphic Storytelling.
