Braden King is a New York-based filmmaker, photographer and visual artist. His first feature film, HERE, starring Ben Foster and Lubna Azabal, premiered at the 2011 Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals and was distributed theatrically by Strand Releasing in 2012. A live installation version of the project, HERE [ THE STORY SLEEPS ], premiered at The Museum of Modern Art in 2010 and toured internationally. Additional work includes the lyric feature documentary DUTCH HARBOR: WHERE THE SEA BREAKS IT'S BACK (co-directed with photographer Laura Moya; also toured with live soundtrack accompaniment), the award-winning shorts HOME MOVIE and NATIONAL DISINTEGRATIONS (released by Laura Poitras' Field of Vision) and music videos for Cat Power, Glen Hansard, Yo La Tengo, Sparklehorse, Sonic Youth, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Laurie Anderson and Dirty Three.
King's work has been exhibited at international film festivals and institutions including Sundance, Rotterdam, Berlin, London, Singapore and Ann Arbor; MoMA, The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Mass MoCA and The Aldrich Contemporary Art Center. Awards and honors include the C.I.C.A.E. Prize at the 2011 Berlin Film Festival, 2010 Cinereach at Sundance Institute Fellowship, 2008 Cannes Film Festival Atelier, 2008 Sundance / NHK International Filmmakers Award, 2007 Sundance Writers and Directors Lab Fellowships and grants from the Creative Capital, Rockefeller, Annenberg and Sloan Foundations.
King is represented for commercial work by New York-based Washington Square Films. Clients include American Airlines, Coca-Cola, ESPN, Microsoft, Miller Beer, Nikon, Samsung, Scholastic, Siemens and Spectrum Cable.
Truckstop Media, King's boutique production company and post facility, has produced dozens of innovative multi-media projects since 2001, including the award-winning websites and mobile apps for Morgan Spurlock and Paul G. Allen's WE THE ECONOMY (2014), Show of Force and Paul G. Allen's WE THE VOTERS (2016) and installations for Tumblr and The Museum of Modern Art. Recent feature films edited at Truckstop include Josephine Decker's films SHIRLEY, and MADELINE'S MADELINE, Rick Alverson's THE MOUNTAIN, Matt Porterfield's SOLLERS POINT, Russ Harbaugh's LOVE AFTER LOVE and Antonio Campos' CHRISTINE.- Braden King is known for Where the Land Meets the Sky (2021).
- Braden is an American actor, singer and dancer originally from Northern Virginia. He was recently awarded the "New Discovery of 2022" award by TicketHoldersLA for his work on the 1st Broadway national tour of The Prom. Performing has been a part of Braden's life from day one, as his mother was a dancer teacher, so he started dancing at just four years old. Growing up he was a competitive dancer at a local studio receiving numerous awards and titles in nationwide competitions. When he was 12, he started his professional acting journey as the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical, where he went on to perform that role in New Jersey, Alaska & California. When he had outgrown the role, he returned to New Jersey (Where he had once played Billy) to play Elmer in a production of Newsies the Musical. After that, he was a part of the workshop for the revival of The Music Man, recently on Broadway doing a Tommy Djilas / Ensemble track alongside Sutton Foster & many other seasoned Broadway performers.
