Born in Oklahoma, Ben Johnson was a ranch hand and rodeo performer when, in 1940, Howard Hughes hired him to take a load of horses to California. He decided to stick around (the pay was good), and for some years was a stunt man, horse wrangler, and double for such stars as John Wayne, Gary Cooper and James Stewart. His break came when John Ford noticed him and gave him a part in an upcoming film, and eventually a star part in Wagon Master (1950). He left Hollywood in 1953 to return to rodeo, where he won a world roping championship, but at the end of the year he had barely cleared expenses. The movies paid better, and were less risky, so he returned to the west coast and a career that saw him in over 300 movies.- Ben Johnson was born on 22 March 1979 in Toronto, Canada. He is an actor, known for Zero Hour (2004), Prey (2022) and Jekyll and Hyde: The True Story (2004).

Ben Johnson is an author, screenwriter, and content creator, who's passionate about telling authentic, emotionally compelling, universally-appealing stories.
Ben grew up in a previously disadvantaged community in South Africa during the apartheid years. His strict upbringing was peppered with loads of personal trauma, rebellion, and domestic violence. While his mother was a God-fearing woman, his father was an alcoholic. One of his brothers was a minister, the other, a drug addict and gangster. As a result of this domestic dichotomy, he's interested in what makes people either embrace or fight their inner darkness.
Ben tells stories about deeply flawed and conflicted characters, thrust into difficult circumstances, which force them to make tough, moral choices that reveal their true nature. All his stories have strong action, thriller, and drama elements, and on occasion, they include the liberal use of machetes(don't ask).
He's worked as a head-writer, story-liner and scriptwriter on 9 television shows, and led several series developments for VOD platforms. To date, he has written 5 short films and 6 feature films, including two novel-to-screen adaptations, and a martial arts co-production between South Africa and Thailand. His screenplays have placed regularly in the finals of both local and international script competitions, and in 2019, his thriller script, Canaan, won the diversity category of the Final Draft Big Break Contest. In January 2020, Ben was invited to pitch two of scripts at the Berlin Film Festival's Africa Finance Hub, and most recently he was awarded a screenwriting fellowship to New York Film Academy.
Ben's script editing clients include the Kwazulu-Natal Film Commission(KZNFC), the National Film and Video Foundation(NFVF), and the Namibian Film Commission(NFC). He has served as a council member of the Writers Guild of South Africa(WGSA )and a judge for both the WGSA Muse Awards and the South African Film and Television Awards(SAFTAS).- Art Department

Ben Johnson is known for The Perfect 10 (2023), Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Detroit Lions (2022) and A Football Life (2011).- Johnson spent his childhood and youth in poor conditions in Jamaica. In 1976 he moved with his family to Toronto, Canada. There he started his running career by training and competing. The talented track and field athlete quickly became one of the top runners in the world. For the first time in 1980 he met the American runner Carl Lewis, who dominated the running scene.
Five years later, Johnson beat him in a competition for the first time. The two world-class sprinters also met in the 100 meter distance at the World Athletics Championships in Rome in 1987. In this race, Lewis was inferior to Ben Johnson. With an extraordinarily fast time of 9.83 seconds, Ben Johnson won the gold medal and set a new world record. Carl Lewis was already accusing Johnson of taking banned performance enhancers and anabolic steroids.
The following year at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, the two runners faced each other again in the supreme athletic discipline. This time too Carl Lewis had to admit defeat. Ben Johnson ran even faster. He completed the short distance in a unique world record time of 9.79 seconds. The race was called the race of the century because of the unheard-of running time. Ben Johnson was hailed as the fastest man in the world. But not for long, because after the race Johnson was tested for doping and the results came back positive.
It turned out that the athlete had been taking banned anabolic steroids for a long time. The case became the biggest doping scandal in sports history. During the subsequent investigations into the doping case, Johnson initially denied knowingly taking performance enhancers. It was only a year later that he admitted that he had been taking anabolic steroids since 1981. As a result of the Johnson case, doping regulations and controls were tightened.
Johnson's doping offense resulted in the stripping of his gold medals and world records. He received a two-year ban from all International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) events. His economic support for sports was also canceled and he was fined. The track and field athlete celebrated his comeback in 1991, but was unable to match the performances of previous years. He managed to qualify for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, but was eliminated before the finals.
Among other things, he worked for the Argentine ex-soccer star Diego Maradonna. In 1998 he became coach of the Maccabi Tel Aviv sports club in Israel. Johnson repeatedly made efforts to return to competitive sports.
In 1988, the athlete failed at a Canadian appeals court. In the same year he applied for clemency, which was also rejected. In 1999 he repeatedly applied for an appeal, in which a decision was also made against him. In the same year, doping tests on Johnson came back positive. He had taken a forbidden drug, a so-called diuretic, which was intended to cover up the use of anabolic steroids and other performance enhancers. In 2003 he worked as a fitness coach for the AC Perugia football club in Italy. - Additional Crew
