Dana Adam Shapiro was nominated for the 2006 Academy Award for his first film, Murderball, a documentary about the United States Paralympic Quad Rugby Team. His latest film, Monogamy, starring Chris Messina and Rashida Jones, is nominated for a 2011 Independent Spirit Award and will be released theatrically by Oscilloscope Laboratories. His 2007 animated short about unrequited love and recycling, My Biodegradable Heart, was an official selection at Sundance and many other festivals around the world. His debut novel, The Every Boy (published by Houghton Mifflin), was a New York Times Editors' Choice and a 2005 Book Sense Notable Book. Other projects include Holler, a film about segregated proms in the South, which he wrote and will be produced by Screen Gems in 2011, and American Family, a documentary-in-progress about interracial couples. Shapiro is a former senior editor at Spin, a founding editor and senior writer of ICON magazine, and he is a contributor to The New York Times Magazine and other publications. Adam Shapiro has worked in the industry as a producer, writer, and director. He has brought his unique brand of humor and creativity to scripted and unscripted projects on both broadcast and cable networks.
Adam is comfortable and prolific in any reality genre. He's been a producer on projects for all of the major broadcast networks, contributing his talents to a variety of programming, including competition reality (AGT, Hell's Kitchen, Live To Dance) talk shows (The Howie Mandel Show), sketch comedy (The Man Show), documentaries (Lucas films"Star Warriors"), entertainment news (TV Guide Channel, Extra, E! News), poker shows (Hollywood Hold'Em), docu-dramas (High Society, Ex-Wives Club) and had an overall deal with Universal Television developing ideas for the studio for nine years.
Adam has worked on AGT since season 2 and currently serves as the Co-Executive Producer on NBC's America's Got Talent for over a decade. During his tenure on the show, Got Talent has consistently dominated the ratings for summer alternative programming and is recognized as the most successful reality show format in the entire world. With his extensive experience, he continues to write, direct and create new programming/exclusive formats for his own development as well.- Producer
