Charles Laughton was born in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England, to Eliza (Conlon) and Robert Laughton, hotel keepers of Irish and English descent, respectively. He was educated at Stonyhurst (a highly esteemed Jesuit college in England) and at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (received gold medal). His first appearance on stage was in 1926. Laughton formed own film company, Mayflower Pictures Corp., with Erich Pommer, in 1937. He became an American citizen 1950. A consummate artist, Laughton achieved great success on stage and film, with many staged readings (particularly of George Bernard Shaw) to his credit. Extremely prolific and ubiquitous British background player Marcus Guy Wyndham Standeven was born to Leslie St. John Standeven and his wife Dorothy on August 28, 1928 in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England. A onetime member of the White Rose Players Repertory Theatre in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, Standeven began his acting career on stage in the mid-1940's; his stage credits include productions of such plays as "Murder Happens," "Payment Deferred," "The Firstborn," "Cinderella," and "The Poison Tree." Following service in the army Guy moved to London, England to pursue acting full time and first started appearing in films in often uncredited minor roles in the early 1950's. One of the busiest and most tireless of British bit players, Standeven could be spotted in scores of movies and television shows in which he was frequently cast as doctors, policemen, military officers, restaurant patrons, or various men of the cloth. He died at age 70 on October 16, 1998 in Hammersmith, London, England.- Born in Scarborough in 1929 and educated there at the Graham School Fred served with the RAF for six years as a parachute and physical training instructor which led him to being asked to be an adviser on the British World War !! film, 'The Red Beret' in 1953. Working closely with the actors in the film kindled his interest in show business. He started as a stand up comic between the nudes at London's Windmill Theatre, often sharing the bill with an up and coming comedian, Bruce Forsyth. While work was regular in Summer seasons and pantomimes with some cabaret work here and there the in between times were tough causing him to take what work he could which included butcher's assistant, driving instructor,barman and carpet salesman. He appeared briefly in Corrie in 1972 then became a regular from 1976 to 1984 as Fred Gee the Rovers barman(1976 - 1984) but had problems remembering his lines so had them written down and hidden in a sports paper, which he was very often was seen with. He quit without notice or reason causing the script writers to do hasty rewrites. He carried his character's work over into real life, although on a higher scale by sharing in the tenancy of the Steam Engine pub in the middle of Manchester. All his screen work was for television with the exception of a cameo in the film version of 'All Creatures Great and Small (which is incorrectly listed in his credits as TV) and Little Voice, which was filmed on his doorstep in Scarborough. which was where he had a shop - Midas Mail Order Surplus. In 1985 diagnosed with throat cancer. He died in June 1999 and was survived by his wife Kathleen, who he married in 1955, and their three daughters.

Ben Kingsley was born Krishna Bhanji on December 31, 1943 in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England. His father, Rahimtulla Harji Bhanji, was a Kenyan-born medical doctor, of Gujarati Indian descent, and his mother, Anna Lyna Mary (Goodman), was an English actress. Ben began to act in stage plays during the 1960s. He soon became a successful stage actor, and also began to have roles in films and television. His birth name was Krishna Bhanji, but he changed his name to "Ben Kingsley" soon after gaining fame as a stage actor, fearing that a foreign name could hamper his acting career.
Kingsley first earned international fame for his performance in the drama movie Gandhi (1982). His performance as Mohandas K. Gandhi earned him international fame. He won many awards - including an Academy Award for Best Actor. He also won Golden Globe, BAFTA and London Film Critics' Circle Awards. After acting in Gandhi (1982), Ben was recognized as one of the finest British actors.
After his international fame for appearing in Gandhi (1982), Kingsley appeared in many other famous movies. His success as an actor continued. His performance as Itzhak Stern in the drama movie Schindler's List (1993) earned him a BAFTA nomination for best supporting actor. Schindler's List (1993) won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. During the late 1990s, Kingsley acted in many successful movies. He played Sweeney Todd in the television movie The Tale of Sweeney Todd (1997), for which he was nominated for the Screen Actors' Guild Award. His other notable role was as Otto Frank in the television movie Anne Frank: The Whole Story (2001), for which he won the Screen Actors' Guild Award.
In 2002, Kingsley was appointed Knight Bachelor of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's New Years Honours for his services to drama. In 2013, he received the BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment. Scarborough born dancer / actress Judy started dancing lessons at the age of 5 at a local academy at the age of 5 and later trained at the Royal Academy and Grandison College. Kathryn Greenwood (or "Kathy" as she prefers to be called) graduated from the Agincourt Collegiate Institute, and attended the American Acadamy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles, California, where she spent two years studying acting. When she returned to Canada in 1988, the fresh-face actress became a staple in Canadian comedy, performing in several theater productions, landing parts in movies such as Switching Goals (1999), and guest-starring on numerous television series. In 1996, Kathy landed the part of aunt "Grace Bailey" on the Canadian drama series Wind at My Back (1996), which lasted for five successful seasons. This performance garnered Kathy a nomination for a Gemini Award for Best Performance By an Actress in a Continuing Leading Role. In 1999, Greenwood entered the U.S. again to find even more work in show business. It was then she became a part of the regular recurring cast of the American version of Whose Line Is It Anyway? (1998); In 2000, when Kathy returned to her Canadian roots, she became the first-ever to win the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Female Improviser.
