Born into Spanish nobility, Antonio Cabeza de Vaca de Carvajal was the 16th Marques de Portago and 12th Count of Mejorada. An internationally known polo player and sportsman, he died suddenly after participating in a polo match. His son and successor was even more well known as an internationally known playboy and lover of actress Linda Christian as well as an amateur steeplechase rider, an Olympic bobsledder and race car driver who died at twenty-eight at the wheel of his Ferrari at the 1957 Mille Miglia (along with his co-driver and ten spectators).
