Purnima's debut film was E Jibon Tomar Amar (1998), opposite heartthrob hero Riaz, directed by Jakir Hossain Raju. She was only fourteen years old and was in class nine when the film was released.

Satya Saha was born on 25 December, 1934 in Fateyabad, Patia, Chittagong, East Bengal, British India (now Bangladesh). He was the son of Prasannakumar Saha. He started his music lesson under his uncle Rabindrapal Saha. He also took lessons of classical music and devotional Bhajan songs from Pandit Suparna Nandi during 1946. He debuted as a singer in the film Tomar Amar and debuted as music director in the film Shutorang (1964).
