Madonna Tests Roman Patience with Crucifixion

Superstar Madonna went ahead with her mock crucifixion at her Rome, Italy, concert last night, ignoring accusations of "blasphemy" by the Vatican City. Religious leaders in Italy and The Vatican united last week to publicly denounce the Material Girl's controversial stage act, in which she is 'crucified' on a diamante-studded cross, while wearing a crown of thorns. Ersilio Cardinal Tonino, speaking on behalf of The Pope, said on Thursday, "This concert is a blasphemous challenge to the faith and a profanation of the cross. She should be ex-communicated. To crucify herself during the concert in the city of Popes and martyrs is an act of open hostility." While Madonna's Olympic Stadium concert was a success, the crowd's cheering died down during her controversial crucifixion act. Madonna told the crowd, "Did you know two miracles have taken place in Rome? Italy won the World Cup and the rain stopped before my show."
