U.S. reality TV star Amber Portwood has been sentenced to serve five years behind bars.
The Teen Mom star was told she'd avoid prison if she completed a drug rehabilitation programme last year, but she was arrested for having prescription medication without a prescription in December and her sentence has been reimposed.
Portwood had previously agreed to complete a rehabilitation programme as part of the plea deal, but she gave up on the treatment and told the judge last week (ends01Jun12) that she would rather go to prison.
Portwood was in an Indiana court on Tuesday morning, when the decision was made after the TV star's attorney asked for leniency, reports TMZ.com.
The judge has referred Portwood to the Indiana Department of Corrections therapeutic community programme - an incarceration-based treatment programme.
Portwood will be given credit for time served in jail.
The reality TV star has a history of legal troubles - in 2010, she faced felony charges for domestic violence after allegedly beating her ex-fiance Gary Shirley in front of their daughter Leah. She was placed on two years' probation and had a two-year jail term suspended, but she violated the terms of her release when she was arrested in December.
