Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was late for a prestigious tribute event at Yale University after he was detained for more than two hours at a U.S. airport.
The actor flew into New York's White Plains airport from India en route to a special event at Yale University in Connecticut, where he was due to give a speech to students and be honoured as a Chubb Fellow for his contribution to the arts.
However, the star, who was travelling by private jet, was held by immigration officials for more than two hours before he was eventually released.
He was more than an hour late for his appearance at Yale, but was able to laugh off the incident when he finally started his speech, telling the audience, "Yes, it always happens, it's nice. Whenever I start feeling arrogant about myself, I always take a trip to America. The immigration guys kick the stars out of stardom... They (immigration officials) always ask me how tall I am and I always lie and say five feet, 10 inches. Next time I am going to get more adventurous. (If they ask me) 'What colour are you?', I am going to say white."
The incident echoed a previous trip to America in 2009 when Khan was detained for more than two hours at Newark airport in New Jersey.
India's External Affairs Minister Sm Krishna has revealed American officials have since issued an apology for detaining the star.
He says, "It has become a habit these days to first detain and then apologise. This can't continue."...
