Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Like the film it complements, the soundtrack to Intermission is an ensemble affair. The movie, starring among others Colin Farrell (Daredevil's Bullseye, The Recruit's recruit) and Cillian Murphy (heroin-chic hero of 28 Days Later), concerns an urban tribe in modern-day Dublin, knit by a loose web of coincidence. The album collects acts from various current and former British lands. There's Ireland's Thrills, whose "One Horse Town" has the Commitments' affection for American r&b. There's England's Turin Brakes' "Pain Killer," with its T-Rex acoustic shuffle. There's Ireland's mystic Clannad, pounding war drums on "Newgrange." There's Canada's Ron Sexsmith, offering two of his best, seeming as ever like Paul McCartney imitating Fozzie Bear. U2 contributes a track from its 1980 debut, which makes it almost as old as several Intermission stars. There is but one track from the score by John Murphy, who has distinguished himself on Guy Ritche's films (and on 28 Days Later, speaking of coincidences). Of course, the newsworthy item here is a cut featuring actor Farrell singing, and though he sounds like a young Pogue (on "I Fawt the Lore"--that is, "I Fought the Law") he's probably drinking top shelf. --Marc Weidenbaum
