Amazon.co.uk Review
For better or worse, David Mamet's hit play Sexual Perversity in Chicago is watered down into this romantic comedy about a couple (played by Rob Lowe and Demi Moore) who get together and then fall apart due to Lowe's character's inability to commit. Jim Belushi is on hand as the gratuitously swinish best friend who looks at women as meat, and Elizabeth Perkins is entertainingly arch as Moore's gal pal and Belushi's nemesis. There is nothing about this 1986 film by Edward Zwick (co-creator of TV's thirtysomething and director of Glory and Courage Under Fire) that is at all reminiscent of Mamet, but that doesn't make it bad or dull. While one can feel the script straining to fill in gaps where chunks of the original play have disappeared, Zwick often successfully tells the story without words at all, relying on the actors to convey pure emotion. Lowe is good, and the then-willowy Moore's understated performance reminds one of the actress she might have been before she became a spectacle. --Tom Keogh

Synopsis
Danny (Rob Lowe) and Debbie (Demi Moore) are in love--on a strictly casual basis--in this sexy comedy. Based on David Mamet's stage play SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO, director Edward Zwick's ABOUT LAST NIGHT... is a funny, provocative, and often insightful look at young romance in the 1980s. At a neighborhood bar, Danny, a swinging single, meets Debbie, a bright young advertising executive who happens to be sleeping with her boss. Sparks fly, and the pair go home together to enjoy what they think is going to be a meaningless night of sex, preferring casual sex to commitment. Danny and Debbie both enjoy their own freedom, work, and friendships. Debbie relies on the support of her roommate, Joan (Elizabeth Perkins in her film debut), a cynical kindergarten teacher, while Danny is constantly exchanging dirty stories and work anecdotes with his coworker and best friend, Bernie (James Belushi). Although they desire to keep their independence, Danny and Debbie begin spending more and more time with each other and finally end up moving in together, quickly becoming domesticated in spite of their fears. However, their whirlwind romance gets the better of them and, although they have strong feelings for one another, they break up. Emotionally devastated, they both attempt to move on while realizing that they may have had something more important than their supposed freedom. This in-depth look at the difficulties of modern relationships is insightful and sexy, featuring palpable chemistry between the two seductive stars.

An 80's classic - much better than average film...., 27 Dec 2007
I adored this flick in the 80's and found the pairing of Lowe and Moore worked well - they look so good in this film - Belushi is so jealous and hard nosed friend sparking off Perkins uptight school teacher room-mate. Both were poor 'best' friends to the leads characters - desperately trying to keep them apart to stop them being hurt!! the music is instantly forgettable but ties in nicely with the film.
Classic line from Lowe to Moore "I saw you staring at me" Moore "Theres a clock above your head!.
This film is actually from a little known book called "Sexual perversity in Chicago." - This is a much racier read than the film itself and worth trying to get hold of - just imagine the actors in those book roles .
Enjoy..................................................................

AN UNDERRATED 80'S ROMANCE THAT I ENJOYED, 8 Aug 2007
was quite surprised by how good and enjoyable About Last Night was, as it's been unfairly treated, it had great performances by the cast, especially Rob Lowe and Demi Moore who were rock solid together. The ending was a little shaky i admit but I still enjoyed it it left you to think about there options and that, it's also a very powerful film about what can happen in a relationship, especially the breakup's!.James Belushi's character was clearly an ass but he brought lots of funny humor to the film and made me laugh plenty of times, and Elizbeth Perkins was good as Demi's best friend but got on my nerves a bit at times. It's a bit depressing at times but in a good way, and Rob and Demi's arguments are very emotional and gripping as well, plus it's pretty well directed as well. Granted it's hard to feel for all of the characters sometimes because of there selfish motives, but you will feel for Danny and Debbie and root for them. This is a very underrated 80's Romance/Drama film that I quite enjoyed and i suggest every one checks it out 4/5.
The Acting is very solid!. Rob Lowe. Rob was always said to be a bad actor by a lot of people but I thought he was quite good here he really holds his own especially with Demi they have great chemistry together, he is an ass, but you also are able to feel sympathy for him near the end, especially where he is walking in the rain all alone depressed thinking about Debbie, his chemistry with Belushi was also on. Demi Moore. Demi Is excellent, she has a lot of spark and enthusiasm and one sexy husky voice that all guys will love, to me she was they key to the film, as I tended to understand her character the most, she's also as cute as a button. James Belushi is hilarious as the mean yet funny best friend of Lowe, he brought plenty of laughs to the film and even made me laugh at times he shouldn't I always thought he was underrated. Elizabeth Perkins is good but got on my nerves with her character, as I thought she was a real witch towards Demi, and only cared bout herself but that's just me she did a great job with the character and I suppose that was the point.

Its about being a classic........., 8 April 2007
Now, its hard for me to be objective about this film. I discovered it at uni in 1989, and fell in love with both it, and Demi Moore. It is what we now call 'bittersweet', and although directly inspired by David Mamets play, the characters are a whole lot likeable (although both best friends are very selfish). The film has dated a little, but not much, and the themes in the film, of commitment, friendship, relationships, and the complications of just living your life, are universal.
I can't talk about this film without smiling, and that should tell you all you need to know.....

80's Vehicle For Two Brat Packers..., 3 Dec 2004
By A Customer
Maybe, but not quite. This was made just after the peak of brat pack mania and it shows. Both stars have matured (acting wise) and they shine. Frankly neither have looked so gorgeous since either, James Belushi steals the show however with his hilarious but truly sexist ramblings. The constant conflict with Elizabeth Perkins and Mr Belushi are also thoroughly watchable. All in all a very worthy adult comedy about love and regret.

Perfect. Apart from all that damned nudity..., 18 April 2003
Oh alright, there's no such thing as too much nudity when you're talking about Demi; but the 18 certificate and the huge raunch-count of this movie do get in the way a little bit. They distract from the fact that this is a clever, well-written film which makes an an interesting study of not just the relationship between Moore and Lowe, but also the relationships between Lowe and Belushi and Moore and Perkins. There's plenty of enjoyable dialogue, and genuinely funny scenes, plus convincing performances from all four principals. It's not all comedy though: About Last Night gets pretty dark and depressing in places too. Can't say as I've ever seen another film quite like it. Definitely one to watch, but possibly after the kids are in bed...

must see for 80's nostalgia and great oneliners, 16 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This was the first 18-rated film I saw in the cinema - I still remember being so excited at 14 that we had sneaked in! I still love this movie so much...brings back great memories of heartache and bad 80's clothes. Great actors, great music and a love story you wish was your own!

An fun, cheeky film with some outstanding acting displayed, 9 Jan 2001
By A Customer
'About last night . . . ' is a mix of sport, love and friendship; a combination which, obviously, leads to complication. Pretty boy Danny (Rob Lowe) and looker Debbie (Demi Moore) have a brief meeting in a Chicago hangout which leads to a deply passionate night which both are willing to forget. But neither can forget or resist the magnetic attraction between them. This unlikely relationship develops and Debbie moves in with Dan leaving her faithful flatmate stranded. Can the strength of their love adapt these free spirits to coupledom? Or will the pressure of feelings and friends prove too much? Superb acting from Lowe and Moore changes 'About last night . . .' from an amusing film with a passable plot to an unforgettable movie which should not be missed. So return to the jazzy 80s; fluffy hair, bold patterns, all night parties and . . . 'About last night . . .'
