Poll: Face-Off : Travis Bickle vs. Rocky Balboa ...
... but somewhere along the line, they decided to discipline their body and their mind and to fight the world as it was coming to them.
At the end, they simply transcended their condition for better (Balboa) or for a debatable worse (Bickle). In either ways, they acted according to their own beliefs, and became -in that glorious cinematic year of 1976- two inspirational polar opposites.
Whether people responded to Rocky's inspirational message about 'going the distance' or Travis' decision not to take any crap any more and get rid of the 'scum' that ravages society, there's no denial that these two characters, played by Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro (both Oscar-nominated for their roles), and starring in two Best Picture nominees, will forever be regarded as two of the most defining (anti)heroes of America's history.
Till now, many people regret that "Taxi Driver" didn't win the Best Picture while it was a gripping social commentary about the alienating effects of post-modernity while many others regard "Rocky" as one of most inspirational movies ever, a model who exceeded the limits of the country, and the deserving Best Picture winner of the year.
Now, which of these two characters, do you most identify with? (and if you don't, which one do you simply prefer?)
