Jolie In Hospital
Angelina Jolie has checked into a Nice, France hospital where she will remain until she gives birth to twins. The actress has been living with partner Brad Pitt, their children and assistants in an exclusive wine resort in Provence, France since the beginning of the summer . Jolie admitted herself into the Lenval Hospital in Nice on Monday , and is said to be doing fine, according to a hospital representative. Nadine Bauer, the spokeswoman for the hospital, says the actress had planned her move into the maternity ward for some time and that everything is going well. Bauer says, "The visit has been planned for a long time, there are no complications. She is just resting." Jolie's twins are expected to be delivered by Michele Sussmann, who is reportedly set to fly to France from the U.S. later this week (beg30Jun08). The actress has three adopted children and a natural child with Pitt. News she was pregnant with twins was confirmed at the Cannes Film Festival in May when Jolie's Kung Fu Panda co-star Jack Black revealed all during a TV interview.
Hathaway Involvement In Ex-boyfriend's Fraud Case Dismissed By Friend
A friend of Anne Hathaway's ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri has hit out at claims the actress had any involvement in the Italian businessman's allegedly fraudulent dealings. The Devil Wears Prada star was accused by friends of the Italian businessman last week (begs23Jun08) of turning her former flame in to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The pair split last month , shortly before he was arrested on suspicion of fraud. Among allegations of money laundering, Follieri has been accused of lying to an investor, claiming he was working as the chief financial officer for the Vatican. According to the New York Daily News, Atlantic City priest William Hodge - who befriended Follieri during a proposed business deal in 2006 - told clerics Hathaway "had nothing to do with Follieri's plot". Hodge has also denied allegations he accepted money in the alleged Follieri deal to extract $6 million (?3 million) from investors. Follieri, 30, remains behind bars until he can post $21 million (?10.5million) bail. A status hearing for Follieri has been set for next week .
Lohan's Father Plans Defamation Suit If Dna Test Turns Up Negative
Actress Lindsay Lohan's father Michael has vowed to sue the woman who claims he is the father of her teenage daughter if his Dna test results come back negative. Michael Lohan underwent testing this week (begs30Jun08), hoping to prove he is not the father of a secret lovechild with his former mistress Kristi Kaufmann. Lohan expects the results of the paternity tests to reveal his relationship to teenager Ashley within two weeks, and says he is already making plans for legal action against her mother. He tells the New York Post, "If the test is found to be negative, she's going to be sued for libel and defamation. She contacted me and said she had a paternity test with her ex-husband and it was negative and she believed the child was mine. She said I was the only one she was with but I find that hard to believe. She was with a number of men after me and was going through a second divorce." Lohan adds he "doesn't plan on discussing" his Dna test with his four children by ex-wife Dina until after the results are in, and has asked his lawyer to send Kaufmann a letter asking her to stop discussing the situation publicly. He says, "Even if the test is positive, I have nothing to say to her because of the way she handled this. How can someone say I have another child when no testing has been done? Why did she wait so long? Is it because she wants money? Or is it because she wants to claim that Ashley is my children's sister? "She said she wants her daughter to have a relationship with my kids - especially Lindsay and Ali - and that's pretty sick. I will never force my children to meet with Ashley." Lohan has admitted to having an affair Kaufmann during a period in 1995 when he and his now ex-wife Dina had separated, but insists he had no idea that his one-time lover had given birth to a child after their romance. Kaufmann hit him with the bombshell news while he was in prison, serving time for a Dui and other charges in 2005.
Jack Black: 'I Was A Drug-taking Teen'
Jack Black was a wild teen who took drugs and stole from his own mother. The Kung Fu Panda star considers himself lucky to have survived a "reckless" adolescence, growing up in California - but insists he was no different to most youngsters. Black says, "I'm lucky to be alive - I don't think I was completely sane. They should have put me in jail. Plus, I was doing coke and sniffing glue, I stole from my mum. It was a bad time, but most teens have reckless spells."
Freeman Got Career Start In News
Hollywood legend Morgan Freeman harboured journalistic intentions before embarking on a career as an actor - he was a writer for a newswire service. The Academy Award winner had dreams of becoming an actor at an early age, but was forced into another career after moving to New York and discovering he was desperate for cash. He says, "I didn't have much in the way of money, so I had to crank it up some other way. I found a job with an outfit called Press Wireless as a telegrapher. "Correspondents from around the world sent all of their dispatchers into Press Wireless and we sent them to whatever newspaper they were scheduled to do. "I was working in October, November, December and January of 1960/61. It was an exciting time to work. That was when Fidel Castro took over Cuba."
Ledger's Theatre Tribute
Tragic actor Heath Ledger has had a theatre named after him in his Australian hometown of Perth, as a tribute to his life. The 575-seat Heath Ledger Theatre, which cost $87 million to build, opened on Tuesday to honour the star's commitment to acting. Ledger's father, Kim Ledger, attended the ceremony and says, "He was such a giver to the arts right across the board. I really feel that there's not a lot of things he'd put his name to, but he'd put his name to that." And he also told reporters the increased attention the family had received after Ledger's death had made the grieving period difficult. He adds, "It's just been a little more public and the films make it a little more public as well. It's been a little bit hard, but we've always been extremely proud of his work and that hasn't changed." Western Australia state Premier Alan Carpenter was present at the naming ceremony and says, "Heath Ledger was totally dedicated to the craft of being an actor and that's what made him successful. "I think what we're doing is continuing that support for young people who want to make a career in the arts and acting, stage and in film, whatever it happens to be." Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment in January . Toxicology reports released a month later state he was killed by an accidental overdose of prescribed medication.
Williams Will Not Attend Batman Premiere
Michelle Williams has confirmed she will not be attending the premiere of her late boyfriend Heath Ledger's final complete film The Dark Knight - because there is no reason for her to be there. The actress has been at the centre of recent reports claiming she is snubbing the much-hyped event due to a feud between herself and the tragic actor's family over the handling of his estate. But the star's representative Mara Buxbaum is keen to put the rumours to rest once and for all, insisting the actress is not feuding with the Ledgers - and insisting Williams never intended to walk the premiere's red carpet. She says, "There is misinformation all over the place. (The premiere) was never on her calendar and she's not in the movie. This isn't a press event for her. She's not going, there is no reason." Ledger's parents and sister are expected to jet to New York from their home in Perth, Australia, to attend the premiere on 14 July - six months after Ledger took an accidental overdose at his Manhattan apartment.
Hartnett To Tackle Rain Man In London
Hollywood actor Josh Hartnett is to star in the new London stage adaptation of Rain Man - playing the role made famous by Tom Cruise. The Pearl Harbor star will debut in the production in September . Gyllenhaal's Mothering Skills Help To Calm Screaming Babies
New mum Maggie Gyllenhaal's maternal skills came in handy on the set of her new movie Farlanders when she had to calm screaming baby twins. The actress plays a hippie mum in the Sam Mendes film - her first project since becoming a mother in October 2006. And when her tiny co-stars threatened to ruin filming by screaming through take after take, she decided to try to calm them. She explains, "I get to working with a five year old and two 11-month-old twins, who screamed through the entire day. "If I had not been a mom and known how to calm a baby, talk and hold the baby, the whole day would've been wasted. "I thought, 'Thank God I'm a mother.' But I didn't feel like I've gone to work and expressed myself and now I'm ready to go home to my baby. I felt like I was a mother all day on that movie.
Ryan Eager To Reprise The Office Role
Oscar nominee Amy Ryan is heading back to TV because she misses the laughs on The Office. The Gone Baby Gone star will return to the U.S. sitcom, as Holly Flax, for multiple episodes next season. She says, "I don't know what they're (writers) going to do with the character but, as it was written, there's certainly a lot of potential. "It's a funny thing to enter a show that you're a great fan of - and it's nice to tell lighter stories. I love the dark, grittier side of life, but it's nice to take a break from that, put a skirt on and brush your hair."
Catwoman Star Meriwether Plans 'Tell-all' Book
Original Batman movie actress Lee Meriwether has announced her plans to "tell all" in a new book. The 73-year-old actress made the feline femme fatale role of Catwoman famous when she brought the character to the big screen in 1966. And Meriwether has revealed she is penning a tome with intentions to come clean about working behind the scenes with co-stars including Batman actor Adam West. Meriwether says, "(Actor/Director) Jim Hesselman is helping me and I'm telling all." In addition to her Batman role, Meriwether also made TV history when she was crowned Miss America in 1954 - the first year the competition was broadcast live on TV.
Berry's Tribute To Cheadle
Halle Berry paid a bizarre glowing tribute to actor pal Don Cheadle at the Spirit of Independence Awards on Sunday - revealing his love of ironing, golf, Tai Chi, and cartoons. Berry presented Cheadle with the prize at the event, part of the Los Angeles Film Festival, and regaled the star-studded audience with some personal information about the Ocean's Eleven actor. She said, "I'm here to tell you tonight what you don't know about Don Cheadle. He loves to iron. He loves to iron so much he went and got one of those steamers, like a professional steamer. "Don has a putting green in his backyard that he built so he can just putt, putt, putt, putt, putt and much to (wife) Bridget's dismay, he's always out there putting. "Ladies might want to know how Don keeps his sexy figure - 'cause he's hot, he's kinda got a sexy thing going on. He does Tai Chi every morning, or every other morning." She added, "Don is a funny, funny man in life and in movies he's really funny. You know what makes him laugh? Any Pixar film. I don't know what that says about him other than he has not been able to give up cartoons." She concluded her speech with the tribute: "Don, I want you to know that I admire you, I respect you. Your heart is one of the biggest of anybody, not only in this town, but anybody that I know and I'm honoured to call you my friend." Cheadle succeeds actor-turned-director Clint Eastwood, who won the award in 2007.
Bale To Take Over The White House From Cruise?
Batman Christian Bale is in talks to replace Tom Cruise as the President of the United States. Cruise has quit Warner Bros. movie 28th Amendment, prompting movie bosses to seek out Bale. MovieHole.net reports talks between movie executives and Cruise broke down last month and he'll no longer play Ben Cahill in the Phillip Noyce action thriller. In the film, President Cahill battles the leaders of a super secret organisation, who control all U.S. affairs. Denzel Washington will reportedly play the leader of the sect.
Ledger Never Saw The Dark Knight
Heath Ledger never saw his final film before he died in January . The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan has now screened the first trailer for the tragic actor, but he was still editing the upcoming blockbuster when Ledger lost his life. Nolan says, "He was already on another film. It was months and months since we'd wrapped. We had really cut a lot of the film together and watched the film a couple of times and were about halfway through the edit process. "Unfortunately he'd only seen the prologue, the introduction to his character shot with these Imax cameras and put out as a short film in Imax for Christmas. "We screened it for him and he enjoyed it very much. It gave him a taste of how it was going to come across but I was never able to show him his finished performance and that's very sad." Ledger is already receiving rave reviews for his portrayal of The Joker, with many critics suggesting the Aussie is a clear front runner for an Oscar.
Ledger Not Troubled Before Death, Say Co-stars
Heath Ledger's state of mind before his death has been defended by his The Dark Knight co-stars - who claim he was the perfect father to daughter Matilda. Reports that Ledger had become maniacal after filming the new Batman movie - in which he plays The Joker - have been blasted by those who worked with him shortly before his death. Gary Oldman, who plays Lt. Jim Gordon in the film, reveals that, while filming, Ledger was in high spirits, slamming reports that he had mood swings, sleeping problems and difficult relationships with other cast members. He tells People.com, "Because he died people want a dark story (that) he was so obsessed with the character, he was so contaminated by the Joker and he couldn't sleep and all of that stuff. "(But) in between takes he would sit on the kerbside and smoke a cigarette and laugh and talk about his daughter Matilda. I thought he was just a beautiful kid. I thought he was just wonderful. I had a real affection for him." And far from being unbalanced, Ledger would constantly gush about his two-year-old daughter, Matilda, his child with actress Michelle Williams. "Heath showed me pictures of (Matilda). (He) would come in and say she did this and she did that," reveals Aaron Eckhart, who plays District Attorney Harvey Dent in the sequel. But Ledger was also passionate about his role in the film - and put all his energy into perfecting the part. Eckhart adds, "He really created his look. That character - Heath loved so much. He really cared about the Joker." Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment in January . Toxicology reports released a month later state he was killed by an accidental overdose of prescribed medication. The Dark Knight is due in cinemas later this month .
Gyllenhaal Puts Motherhood First
Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal has put her film career on the back burner after becoming a mum. The Donnie Darko star claims giving birth to daughter Ramona 21 months ago "changed everything" in her life, and she is now only interested in film roles if the script is strong. Gyllenhaal says it took the offer of a part in the new Batman film The Dark Knight to tempt her back to work. She tells People.com, "I do think that it's really difficult to get me away from (Ramona). It's difficult to find a script that's good enough for me to think, 'Okay, I really need to do this instead of being with my daughter.'" Speaking of becoming a mum for the first time, she adds: "I think having a child changes everything and has deepened everything in my life. "I never knew that I could be so tired. I never knew that I could work so hard. I never knew that I could love so much or be so patient or be so excited by the tiniest, tiniest little thing. Everything about it has surprised me." Ramona is Gyllenhaal's child with actor Peter Sarsgaard.
Hatcher Snubbed By Emmys
Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher has been snubbed by the Emmy Awards - with three of her castmates competing for the Best Comedy Actress Award without her. Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria Parker have all been shortlisted for the prestigious prize at this year's TV awards - but Hatcher's name was noticeably missing from the semi-finalists. Website GoldDerby.com reveals that the other actresses vying to take home the award include America Ferrera, Tina Fey, Christina Applegate, Mary-Louise Parker, Sarah Silverman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel. Also announced were the top ten stars who will compete in the Best Supporting Drama Actor category. Last year's winner Lost star Terry O'Quinn was missing from the list, which was led by his castmates Naveen Andrews and Michael Emerson. Other actors to be shortlisted include William Shatner, Ted Danson and T.R. Knight. Also competing in the category are Christian Clemenson, Bruce Dern, Zeljko Ivanek, John Slattery, Blair Underwood and Jake Weber. The awards will be handed out on 21 September .
Hunters To Take Over Pitt & Jolie's Estate
Brad Pitt and his partner Angelina Jolie will have to open up their French estate and allow a wild boar hunt on their land this summer , according to local residents. The couple, along with their four children, has taken up residence in a sprawling property in the southern region of Aix-en-Provence - while Jolie awaits the birth of her twins. The estate's grounds have long been used by wild boar hunters, and when the season opens again in August - the family will have to put up with locals trailing across their land. The president of the village hunt society tells local publication, French Dimanche, "We have a written agreement in place that doesn't expire until at least 30 August. There is no indication that the estate owner wishes to challenge that, quite to the contrary." The couple is leasing the house from American billionaire Tom Bove.
Hilton Is Paid To Party
Paris Hilton is adamant her image as a fun-loving party girl is not real - insisting she is paid to attend most social events. The hotel heiress is regularly pictured out and about at nightclubs, both in the U.S. and during her many trips abroad. But Hilton claims that in reality she is very different to her socialite persona - and only goes to events because she will collect a paycheque at the end of the evening. She says, "When they see me at parties, I am actually getting paid to be there. There is no such thing as bad publicity."
No Divorce For Madonna And Ritchie
Madonna has dismissed reports she is set to divorce husband Guy Ritchie. The couple has been under intense media scrutiny amid rumours they are allegedly on the verge of a permanent split. Madonna fuelled the speculation by appearing in public in New York without her wedding ring earlier this week (beg30Jun08). But gossips were left guessing again when filmmaker Ritchie flew to New York on Monday to be with his wife. And now the Material Girl's publicist Liz Rosenberg is setting the record straight - insisting the pair are not divorcing. She tells People.com, "Madonna's husband Guy arrived in New York last night to be with his wife and family (not in a last ditch attempt to save his marriage which does not need saving). There are no plans for Madonna and Guy to divorce." Rosenberg also dismissed reports Madonna is having a secret fling with New York Yankees baseball hero Alex Rodriguez. She adds, "Madonna and Alex have the same manager, Guy Oseary. They have met. They know each other and Madonna took her kids to a Yankees game last week. There's really not anything to comment on beyond that." Rosenberg suggests the recent flurry of rumours about the star's private life isn't something new. She added: "It's nothing new that people are airing tons of dirty laundry Madonna's way lately - much of it untrue."
McGraw: 'I Was Just Trying To Keep The Peace'
Tim McGraw has spoken out about his attack on a rowdy fan at a show in Washington last week . The country star has downplayed the incident, during which he helped security staff eject an unruly reveller at a concert in Auburn. He says, "I was just trying to keep peace and the security guys just couldn't get there in time." McGraw took action after he spotted the man assault a woman in the audience. The incident made headlines last week when footage of it surfaced online. McGraw halted his performance of Indian Outlaw to yell for help, screaming, "Get rid of this guy! Security!" McGraw's spokeswoman has since revealed the "overly aggressive fan" attacked a female fan, and Tim witnessed the incident. She says, "Tim called for security, but when they could not respond quick enough, Tim and several crew members removed the fan from the audience." The "unruly" fan, Marcus Nirschl, 30, insists he didn't deserve McGraw's wrath. He explains, "I was getting shoved up against some empty seats, and I may have pushed some people when I was trying to get my balance... but I didn't hit nobody. "I'm the nicest guy you'll ever meet." Other fans at the show have disputed his claims.
