Norton Blasts Media for "Distorting" Studio Rift

Actor Edward Norton has launched a scathing attack on the media - stating reporters have "distorted" stories to sensationalize a rift between himself and the studio behind his upcoming film The Incredible Hulk.
The Fight Club star was allegedly caught in a series of aggressive outbursts towards the blockbuster's financiers Marvel Entertainment over a disagreement about the movie's final cut.
According to reports, Norton didn't agree with Marvel's plans to re-shape the film into a series of action scenes, which led to rampant rumors he had strongly pitted himself against the studio.
But the star refutes the rumors, stating such "disputes" were part of a "healthy" moviemaking creative process, and blames the media for "distorting"
the truth in hope of securing a "good story."
He says, "Every good movie gets forged through collaboration, and different ideas among people who are all committed and respect the validity of each other's opinions is the heart of filmmaking.
Regrettably, our healthy process, which is and should be a private matter, was misrepresented publicly as a 'dispute', seized on by people looking for a good story and has been distorted to such a degree that it risks distracting from the film itself, which Marvel, Universal and I refuse to let happen."
And the film's director Louis Leterrier agrees with Norton's claims, insisting it was the media's take on the rift which prevented a final agreement being stalled between the two battling parties.
He explains, "Everyone was exhausted; it was like a little burst. (Then it) became public, (which) kept Edward and Marvel from talking to each other. (The purported feud) was nothing and then it became something big."
Holmes & Cruise Aides Dismiss Separation Reports

Aides close to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have dismissed reports that the couple is planning a trial separation as "absolutely false." An article in the new issue of magazine In Touch declares Holmes plans to move to Manhattan, New York from Los Angeles with the couple's daughter Suri. The exclusive story, which graces the front page of the publication, leads with the headline, 'Katie wants her life back'. As the three-year anniversary of her first date with movie star Cruise looms on April 29, sources claim the actress is tired of dressing up as Mrs. Cruise and playing the perfect wife in public. One insider tells In Touch, "Of course Katie still loves him (Tom), but she does often feel like the little wife that has to sit there quietly and smile serenely at everything he says." But her representative insists all talk of a broken marriage and an unhappy Holmes is ridiculous. A spokeswoman says, "She and her husband enjoy a close and loving relationship." According to the In Touch article, Holmes plans to move to Manhattan with her daughter to pursue her Broadway acting ambitions. A source says, "She'd love to go to Broadway to show the world she can act."
Judge Urges Rowling To Settle Out Of Court

A judge overseeing the legal battle between Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix author J.K. Rowling and superfan Steven Vander Ark has advised the pair to settle the dispute out of court. Judge Robert Patterson urged the two parties to take their legal fight outside the courtroom, claiming the case would almost certainly end in years of appeals because it involves many unresolved areas of U.S. law. The British writer sued Michigan, Detroit-based RDR Books for copyright infringement in 2007, in a bid to prevent the publication of Vander Ark's The Harry Potter Lexicon, which was allegedly inspired by her novels. Rowling has so far managed to stall the publication of the 400-page text, which was initially intended for release last November. But the judge deems the case too complicated to be dealt with in court, telling the hearing on the third day of the battle in a U.S. District Court in New York, "I think this case, with imagination, could be settled." The first two days of the hearing, which started on Monday, has seen emotional testimonies from both Rowling and Vander Ark. The case continues.
Thurman Does Jury Duty
Uma Thurman landed back in court this month as she awaits the trial of a man accused of stalking her - she has been put on jury duty. The Gattaca actress was recently forced to undergo jury selection in New York City with other randomly-picked members of the public. Thurman wasn't selected and admits she was disappointed to miss out, although it would have caused her career chaos, as she is currently busy promoting new movie The Life Before Her Eyes. The star reveals, "I was on jury duty downtown. it was a misdemeanor case. I wasn't selected. but I got quite excited by the thought of it. But I was nervous, because if it's been a long case it would have caused problems. How do you tell that to the producers of a movie?" Thurman will get her day in court when the delayed trial of Jackson Jordan kicks off. Jordan, 36, stands accused of attempting to gain entry to Thurman's trailer on a New York movie shoot, and sending her letters and drawings, including a sketch of the actress digging his grave.
Farrow Accuses Olympic Committee Of "Foul Play"

Actress Mia Farrow has hit out at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) - accusing the board of ignoring China's support for Sudan. The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and human rights activist insists the Committee is brushing the crisis in Sudan's Darfur region to one side, stating they are "putting aside their humanitarian instincts." The Hannah And Her Sisters star, who has set up a group called Dream For Darfur, insists the IOC have failed the Olympic Charter and the war-stricken region, accusing them of "foul play." The campaigning actress has often spoke out about boycotting the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing due to China's trade links with Sudan - where more than 200,000 people have been killed and more than two million turned into refugees by famine and war since civil war broke out in 2003. But the Committee has denied the accusations, insisting they don't follow any political agendas. A representative for the IOC says, "The IOC is a sporting organization with no political mandates to instruct countries how to behave." Earlier this year, Farrow praised director Steven Spielberg's decision to leave his position as artistic director for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing after months of urging the moviemaker to step-down from the role, calling the move "an extraordinary act of conscience."
Diaz Pulls Out Of Premiere Over Dad's Death
Cameron Diaz has pulled out of the London premiere of her new movie following the death of her father. Emilio Diaz died from pneumonia on Tuesday aged 58, after the illness developed from a recent bout of influenza. And the actress has cancelled all of her forthcoming engagements as a result, including the U.K. premiere of What Happens In Vegas next Tuesday with co-star Ashton Kutcher. The organizers say, "Sadly she won't be attending. We're waiting for more news but as far as we are aware the premiere is still going ahead as planned with Ashton." Shooting on her latest movie My Sister's Keeper has also been temporarily suspended to allow Diaz time to mourn.
'Jumper 'Star To Replace Hopper's Son In Craven Horror
Jumper star Max Thieriot is to replace Dennis Hopper's son Henry Lee Hopper in Wes Craven's new horror movie 25/8 - after the 17-year-old dropped out due to illness. Henry Lee Hopper was set to make his big screen debut in the legendary director's next project but was forced to withdraw from the film after contracting mononucleosis - an infectious throat disease more commonly known as glandular fever. Craven reportedly attempted to delay filming to give Hopper time to recover, but feared that if it was rescheduled, the project would fall prey to a possible actor's strike later this year. Thieriot, who starred alongside Hayden Christensen in this year's sci-fi thriller Jumper, has now been cast in Hopper's place and will start shooting in Connecticut this month. And although Hopper is disappointed to have lost his part in the film, he's convinced Thieriot will do a good job. He says, "Wes said he was thinking about pushing the film back but couldn't because of the possible actors strike. I saw (Thieriot's) audition, and he's a talented guy, really flexible, which fulfills the needs of the role."
Rhames Blasts Press For Inaccurate Caretaker Death Reports
Ving Rhames has called on the press to issue a public apology to the family of his late caretaker Jacob Adams, after it was falsely claimed the employee had died as a result of an attack by the actor's dogs. Adams, 40, was initially thought to have been mauled to death by the Pulp Fiction star's pets at his Brentwood, California home in August, but a coroner later ruled he died from a "pre-existing heart problem." However, Rhames, who was filming in Bulgaria at the time of the incident, claims it was Adams' sickle cell anemia which killed him - and wants the media to make amends for the trauma their inaccurate reports caused Adams' grieving family. He tells Tmz.com, "My friend who passed away, my caretaker, they found out it was a sickle cell attack that he had. I'm sorry, really, that the press gave such a negative report of the situation that his family had to deal with. The reason was sickle cell anemia, he only had three (dog) bites on him... I never even knew he had that (sickle cell). Even the coroner said there was no way the dogs could have done that (killed him). For his family to go through life thinking he'd been eaten alive by dogs, that's very different from a sickle cell attack. I would just like the media to make an apology to Jacob's family." Rhames' dogs - three mastiffs and one bulldog - were originally quarantined but have since been returned to the actor.
Depardieu Guilty Of Attacking Photographer

Legendary French actor Gerard Depardieu has been forced to pay compensation to a photographer after he was convicted of attacking him. The Oscar-nominated star was ordered to pay paparazzo Dario Orlandi 800 euros ($1,275) after an Italian court found him guilty of injuring the photographer. Orlandi told the court how Depardieu head-butted him after spotting him taking pictures while out on a shopping trip in Florence, Italy, in 2005 - leaving him unable to work for four days. A judge told the court the Italian court that the Green Card star, who was not present at the hearing, would be required to pay the fine for "injuries and threats against Dario Orlandi."
Spears Ordered To Pay Lawyers $400,000
Britney Spears has been hit with a legal bill of almost $400,000. A Los Angeles court ordered the pop star to pay the cash to the numerous lawyers involved in all her legal affairs over the past three months. That includes her custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline and her conservatorship issues. At a hearing on Thursday, Commissioner Reva Goetz ruled Spears' court-appointed attorney Samuel Ingham will continue to receive $10,000 a week and Andrew Wallet, the co-conservator of Spears' finances, will receive an advance of $100,000. People.com reports Wallet has not received a salary for his services to Spears since taking over her estate issues with the pop star's father Jamie in February. Meanwhile, the law firm which won Jamie Spears control of his daughter's affairs will also be advanced $175,000, and a lawyer representing the singer's brother Bryan Spears has been handed a $22,000 windfall. Finally, Spears' new divorce lawyer, Stacy Phillips, has been awarded $75,000.
Duff Denies Lohan Rivalry

Actress/singer Hilary Duff has denied reports she and Lindsay Lohan don't get on - insisting any feuds between the pair were confined to their teens. Duff was accused of stealing Lohan's then boyfriend, pop star Aaron Carter, in 2002, but the 20-year-old insists they have both moved on since then. She says, "Supposedly, I stole Lindsay Lohan's boyfriend (Carter). We were, like, 13! And I've never stolen anyone's boyfriend! I don't know how you do that! She was talking about it and I wasn't. It made us both look bad and put up a big weirdness. Really, she was just a girl my age. We are fine now, by the way."
