Stars Fight To Keep Ledger Drug Video Off TV

Sarah Jessica Parker, Josh Brolin and Natalie Portman were among the stars who bombarded the producers of news show Entertainment Tonight and urged them to drop a damning Heath Ledger video. The footage, taken at a Hollywood party in 2006, reportedly features the late actor drinking and taking drugs. The news show aired teaser footage during its Wednesday night broadcast and producers planned to show the full tape on Thursday. But angry phone calls from the stars and harsh criticism from Ledger's publicists made them think again - and eventually axe the news item. In one angry open letter, Ledger's representative Mara Buxbaum wrote, "This is not journalism, it is sensationalism. It is a shameful exploitation of the lowest kind."

Clooney Visits U.N. Headquarters

Hollywood star George Clooney paid a visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York on Thursday for the first time since he was appointed Messenger of Peace of the world organization earlier this month. The Michael Clayton actor was accompanied by his parents Nick and Nina Clooney as he arrived at the office on Thursday afternoon to the delight of his adoring fans, who had gathered outside the building's entrance to catch a glimpse of the star. Clooney then met with U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro, who presented him with the U.N. Messenger of Peace certificate and dove pin, the traditional tokens given to those newly-designated to the post. The presentation comes just days after he returned from a trip to Sudan's troubled Darfur region, his first posting as a U.N. ambassador.

Mendes in Rehab

Actress Eva Mendes has checked into the Utah rehab facility where Lindsday Lohan spent last summer. Reports suggest the Hitch star is battling substance abuse issues and was admitted to Cirque Lodge last month, according to TMZ.com. But while Mendes' publicist has confirmed she is seeking treatment, the spokesperson has refused to state the exact purpose of her stay. Her representative says, "Eva has been working hard for the past year and made a positive decision to take some much-needed time off to proactively attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support. Out of respect for Eva's privacy, we do not wish to discuss further details."

Britney's Manager To Cut Ties With Her "Incapable" Family

UPDATE: Britney Spears's longtime companion/manager Sam Lufti has given up trying to work through the troubled star's problems with her parents Jamie and Lynne Spears - because he has "no more respect for the family." Spears' estranged parents and Lutfi were reported to have joined forces to have the singer admitted to Los Angeles' UCLA Medical Center on Thursday morning, where she was placed on 72-hour psychiatric hold. But Lutfi is now claiming Britney's parents are more concerned with money and their image than their daughter's well-being, branding them "incapable of telling the truth and incapable of sympathizing." In an exclusive interview with E! News - which will air in the U.S. on Friday night - he insists he has "a moral obligation" to protect the 26-year-old like he would with any of his three sisters. He also maintains he has never been paid by Spears and "never accepted money from the media" for tip offs about the star's whereabouts. And Lutfi explains his constant presence beside the singer is due to her desperate requests: "You meet her and she cries, and she begs (you) not to turn on her."

Previously reported: Britney Spears is going home to Louisiana with her mother Lynne Spears as soon as she is released from a hospital in Los Angeles. The singer was taken to the UCLA Medical Center in an ambulance, surrounded by a police convoy, early on Thursday after a reported "intervention" by family members at her Beverly Hills home. Spears' lawyer Michael Flanagan reveals Lynne is waiting for the singer to be discharged, so she can whisk her back to the family's Kentwood home. Flanagan tells PageSix.com, "Lynne is extremely concerned for her daughter and would like to take Britney back home to Louisiana and get her out of Hollywood. Brit has an amazing support system in Louisiana. Lynne was holding up reasonably well, but her first priority and concern right now is with her daughter and helping her through this very tough situation that she is in." According to various internet reports, the hitmaker will be held at the hospital on a metal health order after concern about the singer's health was raised by her psychiatrist. The 26-year-old was previously admitted to L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center earlier this month after a three-hour stand-off with police, and was held for two days on a '5150 hold' order, meaning medics have reason to believe she is a danger to herself or others.

Baby Indiana for Burton and Bonham Carter

Sweeney Todd filmmaker Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter have named their six-week-old daughter Indiana Rose, according to reports. The actress gave birth to the couple's second child on December 16, but have kept tight-lipped about the new tot's name. A spokesperson for the British star refused to confirm the news, but confessed to WENN, "It's probably likely." German website VIP.de claims Burton and Bonham Carter waited until now, because they were expecting a brother for four-year-old Billy Ray, so had only thought up boys names, reports PageSix.com.

Holmes Denies Klein Baby Rumors

Actress Katie Holmes has dismissed a U.S. tabloid's claim she secretly fell pregnant with ex-fiance Chris Klein's baby. The Mad Money beauty - who is now married to Tom Cruise - dated the American Pie star for five years, but split from the actor in early 2005. Weeks after their break-up, Holmes began dating Cruise and the couple welcomed baby daughter Suri in April 2006, before marrying in Rome, Italy in November that year. But a close pal of Klein's recently claimed to the National Enquirer that Suri wasn't the first child Holmes had conceived - even hinting the 29-year-old had undergone an abortion. The friend told the publication: "Shortly after his (Klein's) relationship with Katie ended, Chris and I had a heart-to-heart. We were having dinner at Cafeteria, a restaurant in New York's Chelsea district, when Chris blurted out: 'Dude, you know I got Katie preggers.' There was a long silence. I realized Chris had said more than he had intended. My next thought was: 'What happened to the baby?' (But) from the look in Chris' eyes, I realized this was highly personal. I didn't want to probe any further." But a spokesperson for Holmes insists there is no truth to the allegations, branding the Enquirer's story "false" reports MSNBC.

Denton's Republican Hate Mail

Actor James Denton received hate mail from angry Republican voters after he switched his political allegiances to the Democrats. The Desperate Housewives star began campaigning for Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards in 2004, and was supporting the politician right up until he quit the 2008 presidential race earlier this week. And Denton, a one-time fervent Republican, admits his choice of candidate upset many Republicans. He says, "I've gotten a surprising amount of mail from unhappy fans, some real conservatives who say that they're disappointed in you and will never watch your show again. It's been eye-opening."

Muniz: "No Actor Can Race Like I Can"

Actor-turned-racing driver Frankie Muniz is in no doubt about his talents behind the wheel - insisting no other celebrity can race cars as well as he can. The former Malcolm In The Middle star walked away from a successful TV and movie career three years ago to follow his driving dreams full-time. And Muniz is more than confident he made the right decision. He says, "I don't want to sound conceited, but I don't think there has been an actor or celebrity-turned-racecar driver that has made it as high up on the racecar circuit as I have. So I don't think there's anyone who can keep up with me. And that's just me being honest." And Muniz's new car confidence has given him a speedy new ambition: "I want to race Michael Schumacher, seven-time (Formula One) world champion."

Chambers Checks In & Out of Spears' Psych Ward

Britney Spears almost had celebrity company in the psychiatric ward at UCLA Medical Center - Grey's Anatomy star Justin Chambers was also a patient this week. In a weird coincidence, the actor, who plays Dr. Alex Karev in the medical drama, checked himself in at the beginning of the week. Chambers' representative has confirmed the star checked in on Monday and checked out hours before Spears was brought in for a 72-hour psychiatric hold. The insider tells Tmz.com, father-of-five Chambers was "exhausted and suffers from a sleeping disorder and went in voluntarily to get some help." It is reported Chambers was on the same ward where Spears is currently being treated.

Cyrus Concert Film Breaks Pre-Order Records

Teen sensation Miley Cyrus' new Hannah Montana concert film has broken pre-sale movie ticket records. The 3D film was released in less than 1,000 cinemas in America on Thursday - and tickets are proving as hard to come by as those for Cyrus' recent concerts. Top online ticket sellers claim tickets for the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert accounted for more than three-quarters of all ticket sales on Wednesday. One site, Fandango.com, claims the film is the site's best-selling concert film ever, selling out more than 1,000 showings and accounting for 91 percent of sales as of Wednesday morning.

Margulies Gives Birth

Former ER star Julianna Margulies is celebrating after giving birth to a baby boy. The 41-year-old actress and and her lawyer husband Keith Lieberthal are to name their son Kieran Lindsay Lieberthal. Lieberthal's father Kenneth tells People.com, "Obviously I'm utterly delighted to be a grandfather. I have to say, he is cuter than any other baby I've seen." Details of where and when Kieran was born were not available when WENN went to press.
