'I'm Not There' Leads Spirit Nominations

Director Todd Haynes' quirky, all-star Bob Dylan-inspired movie I'm Not There is set to be the toast of the IFC Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, Los Angeles in February, after landing the event's first Robert Altman Award. Announced at the Spirit Awards last year, the honor is given to the director, casting agent and cast of an outstanding indie movie. In I'm Not There, Heath Ledger, Richard Gere and Cate Blanchett are among the actors who conjure up the spirit of Dylan at different stages of his life for the offbeat biopic. The movie was also nominated for the Spirits' Best Film prize, where it will compete with Julian Schnabel's The Diving Bell And The Butterfly, Juno, A Mighty Heart and Paranoid Park. Blanchett and Marcus Carl Franklin earned Best Supporting Actress and Actor nods respectively for their portrayals of Dylan, and Todd Haynes is a Best Director nominee. Other four-film nominees are acclaimed coming-of-age film Juno, The Diving Bell And The Butterfly and The Savages.
Meanwhile, Ang Lee's controversial Lust, Caution is also a multi-nominee; the film's stars Tony Leung and Tang Wei are up for Best Actor and Actress honors, while Rodrigo Prieto's cinematography is also under consideration. French actress Julie Delpy's 2 Days In Paris earned her a First Feature nomination; she'll be up against Jeffrey Blitz's Rocket Science, which garnered three nominations. In the lead acting categories, Angelina Jolie is an immediate favorite for her role as grieving Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart. Jolie will compete against Sienna Miller (Interview), Parker Posey (Broken English), Ellen Page (Juno) and Tang Wei. Leung will be up against Pedro Castaneda (August Evening), Don Cheadle (Talk To Me), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Savages) and Frank Langella (Starting Out In The Evening) in the Best Actor category. The nominations were announced on Tuesday morning by Lisa Kudrow and Zach Braff.
Winehouse Cancels Tour on Doctors' Orders
Amy Winehouse has been forced to cancel the remainder of her troubled U.K. tour by doctors - because the strain of her husband Blake Fielder-Civil's incarceration has rendered the volatile singer unable to perform. The star - whose performances have been plagued by reports of fans storming out over her incoherent singing and delayed start times - abandoned her tour crew on Monday night after her gig in Brighton, England, and headed back to London in a taxi. She was due to play a concert in Bournemouth on the south coast of Britain on Tuesday night. But the remaining eight U.K. tour dates were pulled after Winehouse was spotted walking into the London Clinic on Tuesday afternoon. In a statement from her record company Universal, the star - who has been battling a drug problem - blamed her recent erratic behavior on the stress she has been put under following her husband's incarceration at London's Pentonville Prison. He was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in relation to a charge of grievous bodily harm. The statement reads, "Amy Winehouse has canceled all remaining live and promotional appearances for the remainder of the year on the instruction of her doctor. The rigors involved in touring and the intense emotional strain that Amy has been under in recent weeks have taken their toll. In the interests of her health and well-being, Amy has been ordered to take complete rest and deal with her health issues." The singer herself adds, "I can't give it my all onstage without my Blake. I'm so sorry but I don't want to do the shows half-heartedly; I love singing. My husband is everything to me and without him it's just not the same."
Anna Nicole Smith's Estate Sued for Unpaid Legal Bills

The estate of the late Anna Nicole Smith has been hit with a new lawsuit by a Texas law firm over unpaid legal bills. Cunningham Darlow Llp filed a creditor's claim against the former model/actress' estate in Los Angeles Superior Court on November 16, claiming they had not received payment for representing Smith in her battle over the estate of her late husband, E. Pierce Marshall. The Houston-based company says a deal had been made with Smith in July 1996 and was revised in September 1999 regarding the court wrangle over the oil billionaire's fortune. Cunningham Darlow is seeking unspecified "fees and expenses" according to CelebTV.com. Smith, who died from an accidental drug overdose in February, married Marshall in 1994. He died, age 90, in August 1995. This is the second lawsuit filed against Smith's estate for outstanding lawyers' fees this month - Britney Spears' attorney Sorrel Trope sued for unpaid bills for his work in the paternity battle of Smith's baby daughter, Dannielynn, earlier this year. A DNA test proved photographer Larry Birkhead was the father of Smith's baby.
Brosnan Escapes Battery Charges
Pierce Brosnan will not face charges for allegedly beating up a photographer in Malibu, California - because there isn't enough evidence against him. Los Angeles County prosecutors have decided not to file criminal charges against The Matador actor following his reported fracas with a snapper last month. Officials at the District Attorney's office have ruled there was insufficient evidence to pursue a battery charge against Brosnan, according to Tmz.com.
Winfrey Feared Obama Support Could Damage Her Show
Oprah Winfrey threw her support behind U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama, even though she knew it could destroy her career. The talk show queen has publicly backed Obama as her choice to replace George W. Bush next year. She tells the New York Daily News, "(I thought) What is the cost to me for doing it? Am I going to lose viewers? I made the decision that I have the right to do it as an American citizen. But I will not use my platform. I can use my own personal voice. I know him well enough to believe in his moral authority. And that is the number one reason why I am supporting him."
Sexual Abuse Caused Lake's Weight Issues

Original Hairspray star Ricki Lake has named childhood sexual abuse as the reason for her weight issues. The actress-turned-talk show host ballooned to 260 pounds at her heaviest and struggled to slim down. Lake then started taking her health seriously and successfully shed over half her body weight. And she feels she wouldn't have had to battle the bulge if she hadn't been molested as a child. She says, "I was a victim of childhood sexual abuse and I think it contributed. Who knows for sure? I've done many years in therapy and worked on all my issues. I didn't talk about it for, like, 15 or 20 years; I didn't admit that it had happened to me because I wanted to kind of bury things. It, in some way, made me who I am today... I don't want to be a poster child for this at all but it's very weird thing for children when they're violated in that way. Food became a comfort to me; it was my kind of security blanket." Speaking exclusively to U.S. news show Access Hollywood, Lake admitted she never confronted her abuser when she eventually told her parents of the abuse - but the person was "quickly removed" from her life.
Streisand Backs Clinton
Barbra Streisand will be going head to head with Oprah Winfrey as the campaign to find a new U.S. Democratic presidential candidate heats up - the singer is backing the media mogul's rival. Just a day after Winfrey announced she'd be joining Barack Obama on the campaign trail next month, Streisand has opted to back former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. Streisand gave the three leading Democrats, Obama, Clinton and John Edwards, hefty campaign donations last month, but she has now settled on one presidential candidate. In a statement released on Tuesday, Streisand says, "Hillary Clinton has already proven to a generation of women that there are no limits for success. Hillary is a powerful voice for change as we find our country at an important crossroads. Under her leadership, our country will regain its respect within the global community." A fierce opponent of President George W. Bush's regime, Streisand adds, "After eight long years, the public will once again have faith in their government."
Federline Named on Power List As Top Dad
Kevin Federline has been given a boost in the midst of his child custody trial with ex-wife Britney Spears - he has been named the seventh most-influential man under 45 in Hollywood in a new magazine poll. Federline also lands the cover of the upcoming Power 50 issue of Details magazine. Spears tops the new list alongside 'Disney Kids' Miley Cyrus, Zac Efron, Shia LaBoeuf and Hilary Duff. Federline also shares the title of The Good Fathers on the list - with Anna Nicole Smith's ex Larry Birkhead. The magazine declares, "By being more visible presences in their children's lives than many Hollywood A-listers, they emerged as unlikely candidates for Dad of Year."
Jensen's Worry Over Musical 'Betty' Episode

Scottish actress Ashley Jensen is panicking over her role in a future episode of TV comedy Ugly Betty - because she will have to sing her lines. An upcoming musical episode of the hit U.S. show will feature the entire cast singing and dancing - but the 38-year-old, who plays stylist Christina, is hoping she won't share a scene with co-star Vanessa Williams' character Wilhelmina, because the actress is also an accomplished singer. Jensen says, "Most people have got a wee (small) voice inside them. It might not be Vanessa Williams' standard. But I think what will be part of the charm is that it will be the characters singing..." The music is being composed by Marc Shaiman, who also wrote the score for the Broadway version of Hairspray.
Singer Flouts Wedding "No-Fly" Zone
Superman Returns director Bryan Singer flouted a no-fly zone at Brandon Routh's wedding after he demanded to arrive by helicopter. Routh, 28, and actress Courtney Ford, 29, wed at the El Capitan Ranch in Santa Barbara, California on Saturday - over which state governor Arnold Schwarzenegger had declared no planes or helicopters could fly on the occasion. A guest tells the New York Post's gossip column Page Six, "(Singer pulled) a big Diana Ross diva move, insisting on flying in on a helicopter - violating the no-fly zone Governor Schwarzenegger created for the occasion."
