DeGeneres in Dog Drama

Ellen DeGeneres is embroiled in a battle with an animal rescue agency after she gave away her pet dog. The talk show host and her partner Portia de Rossi handed over custody of her Brussels Griffon mix Iggy to Ellen's hairdresser after it fought with her cats. But the Mutts and Moms agency claims the switch violated an agreement it had with DeGeneres when she agreed to house the pet - and has reclaimed the pooch from the hairdresser and her 11 and 12-year-old daughters. DeGeneres said on her show on Monday, "I guess I signed a piece of paper that says if I can't keep Iggy, it goes back to the rescue organization, which is not someone's home, which is not a family. I thought I did a good thing. I tried to find a loving home for the dog because I couldn't keep it. Because I did it wrong, those people went and took that dog out of their home, and took it away from those kids. I feel totally responsible for it and I'm so sorry. I'm begging them to give that dog back to that family. It's not their fault. It's my fault. I shouldn't have given the dog away. Just please give the dog back to those little girls."

Spears Booked on Hit-and-Run Charge

Britney Spears has been booked for her hit-and-run parking lot accident in August, after turning herself in to Los Angeles police on Monday night. The singer was caught on camera scraping Kim Robard-Rifkin's vehicle with her Mercedes-Benz while attempting to park in Van Nuys, California on August 6. The troubled star, 25, was booked on two misdemeanor charges of hit and run causing property damage and driving without a valid license. She was then fingerprinted and photographed before being released an hour later without bail. Los Angeles Police Department officer Mike Lopez says, "At around 9:25 this evening, Ms. Spears turned herself in to the Van Nuys Jail for booking. This was by court order, which is common for a misdemeanor charge. She was fine, cooperative. She did her business and came out." The LAPD has refused to release the booking photo because it is their policy not to do so. Spears is due in court to face the charges on October 25.

Madonna Confirms Live Nation Deal

Madonna's money-spinning new partnership with promoters Live Nation is a done deal. Madonna will become the founding artist in the firm's new Artist Nation division as part of the deal, which will net her an estimated $120 million over 10 years. The pop superstar will receive a combination of cash and stocks in multi-media group Live Nation in return for giving executives the rights to sell three studio albums, promote concert tours and license her name. It's the first deal of its kind. In a statement confirming the agreement on Tuesday, Madonna says, "The paradigm in the music business has shifted and as an artist and a business woman, I have to move with that shift. For the first time in my career, the way that my music can reach my fans is unlimited. I've never wanted to think in a limited way and with this new partnership, the possibilities are endless. Who knows how my albums will be distributed in the future? That's what's exciting about this deal - everything is possible. Live Nation has offered me a true partnership and, after 25 years in the business, I feel that I deserve that."

Bloom Under Investigation

Orlando Bloom is to be investigated by Los Angeles police after crashing a pal's car on Friday morning. The Pirates Of The Caribbean star was driving home after a night out with friends when he collided with a parked Porsche in Hollywood. Bloom reported the crash to the authorities and was at the scene when they arrived, but paparazzi footage of the accident clearly show the actor walking away. In video footage that has since appeared on TV news shows, a photographer can be heard urging Bloom to return to the crash site or risk a hit and run charge. The wise snapper says, "You have to deal with this. Seriously." Eventually, the shaken actor stops, turns around and walks back to his friend's mangled car. Cops determined Bloom was not under the influence of drugs or drink when he crashed, but they are looking at the possibility that he committed a hit and run, according to Tmz.com. Stylist Cher Coulter, one of the two women in the car with Bloom when he crashed, suffered a fractured neck. The actor, who has been interviewed by cops, claims a paparazzi vehicle cut him off and caused the crash.

Lohan Files Countersuit to 2005 Car Crash Claims

Lindsay Lohan has filed a countersuit against the alleged victim of her 2005 Hollywood car crash, claiming driver Raymundo Ortega was the one responsible for the accident. Ortega, who filed a negligence lawsuit against Lohan in Los Angeles in June, claims the actress had been drinking at celebrity hotspot The Ivy before crashing her Mercedes-Benz into his red van in October 2005. But the Just My Luck star is fighting the accusations with her own court action - alleging Ortega and a number of unspecified defendants caused the crash. And according to the papers filed at the Superior Court on Thursday, Lohan claims Ortega was "negligent in the ownership, operation, repairs and maintenance" of his vehicle. She says Ortega made an illegal u-turn in front of her car causing her to hit the brakes - but failed to stop in time, despite traveling at just 30 miles-per-hour. She is seeking damages of $75,000 from Ortega. Lohan's counter-claims come exactly one month after a Los Angeles Superior Court judge rejected the 21-year-old's request to have Ortega's lawsuit dismissed on the grounds of lacking legal sufficiency. A trial date of April 7 has been set for both cases.

Winfrey Can No Longer Kill Bees

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has discovered she can no longer kill bees after lending her voice to new animated film Bee Movie. Winfrey plays a human judge who oversees a court battle between a friendly bee, voiced by comic Jerry Seinfeld, and a honey company. And now she's started letting bees buzz around her - because she no longer sees them as stinging pests. She resisted the urge to swat two bees who recently took a fancy to an Italian dish she was preparing at her home in California. She explains, "Two bees came around and they were buzzing around my plate. I think they were after the basil... and instead of swatting them away I just allowed myself to be there with the bees. I am not gonna swat the bees because they have families; I'm now thinking, 'They have families...' I'm so affected by this movie." And Seinfeld is taking full credit for America's new love for bees: "I look at them and I think, 'You have no idea what I did for you!'"

Gyllenhaal: "I Hate Preachy Message Films"

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal deliberately avoids starring in movies with an obvious political message - despite roles in such hot-topic films as Brokeback Mountain and new release Rendition. The Oscar nominee hates "preachy" movies, and insists gay cowboy drama Brokeback Mountain and Rendition, which deals with terrorist issues, just happen to be topical. He says, "It's very important for me to be in movies that don't have a message. Messages tend to be a little preachy, and I don't think that's what movies are about. It's important for me to be in movies that have a human level, have a heart in them. That's the reason why I did this (Rendition) and it just so happens to be really topical. This political issue is a very important one right now which as Americans we need to look at. So it seems like it's (the film) is very political, it seems like there's a message in it, but ultimately there's a real story about human beings dealing with actual human things."

Kidman Forbids Her Children From Getting Tattoos

Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman fear her children are growing up too fast - she has already had to ban them from getting tattoos. Bella, 15, and Connor, 12, Kidman's adopted children with first husband Tom Cruise, are beginning to display the trademark rebellious streaks of adolescence. The actress says, "Bella had a phase of blue hair - luckily that only lasted for a little while. But we recently had a discussion at home about tattoos and I had to lay down some ground rules. My husband (Keith Urban) has tattoos, so obviously I don't mind them on principle. But I do think you have to be a certain age before you can choose to do something as permanent as that, and I don't think that age is 14 or 15. Call me old-fashioned, if you will."

Ferrera Moved Over Security Fears

Ugly Betty star America Ferrera was forced to move out of her Hollywood home, after network bosses ruled she was at risk to stalkers. Although no threats were made, TV chiefs ordered the Emmy-winning actress to seek out a house with better security, after they discovered how close fans could get to her. She says, "There was a security issue. I was living in an apartment in Hollywood where the windows faced the street. I always left them open because there was an air conditioning unit hooked up to the outside. I was told that was probably not such a good idea. Anyone could look straight into the apartment, so I decided it was time to move. I try to keep as low key as I can, and be safe as I go about my daily routine. Luckily it takes a lot to shake me up."

Lynch Meets with Israeli President

Cult filmmaker David Lynch met Israeli President Shimon Peres on Monday as part of a five-day visit to the Middle East, where the Blue Velvet director is promoting transcendental meditation. Lynch, who has been meditating for more than 30 years, is in Israel to encourage the use of meditation to combat violence in school and for creating a peaceful environment in general. Speaking at the Sam Spiegel Film And Television School in Jerusalem he said, "Real peace is not just the absence of war but the absence of all suffering, all negativity. Change comes from within. From the first meditation, boom, you're there."
