Spears To Undergo Drug Tests

Britney Spears will undergo random drug and alcohol tests to determine whether or not she is a fit mother as her child custody battle turns nasty, according to U.S. reports. The judge in the case, Scott Gordon, has stated he is concerned about the singer's apparent "habitual, frequent, and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol" and he wants to investigate. He has ordered Spears to "undergo testing," which will be conducted randomly twice a week. Custody remains split at 50/50 between Spears and her ex husband Kevin Federline until test results have been determined. It is not known how long Spears will be tested for. Meanwhile, Judge Gordon ruled that "each party is restrained from making derogatory remarks about the other party and the other party's family or significant other." The judge has also insisted that both Federline and Spears meet with "a parenting coach for a minimum of eight hours each week," and he also demands, "Neither party shall consume alcohol or other non-prescription controlled substance during or for 12 hours immediately preceding any period such party is responsible for the health and safety of the minor children." The judge's ruling on Tuesday coincided with what would have previously been a happy time for the former couple - it was three years to the day Spears and Federline staged a wedding ceremony in Studio City, California on September 18, 2004. The pair were officially married a month later.

Phil Spector Jurors Deadlocked

The jurors in the Phil Spector murder trial have told Judge Larry Paul Fidler they've reached an impasse after seven days of deliberations. The judge held a hearing on Tuesday after learning the jury members were struggling to reach a decision. The foreman told Fidler that the panel is at a seven-to-five impasse, but did not indicate which way the jury was leaning, leaving the judge to ask if there was anything he could do to help before asking lawyers to step in. Fidler denied the defense team's plea for a mistrial, stating he still hoped the jury members could come to a unanimous decision. Music mogul Spector is charged with the second-degree murder of actress Lana Clarkson, who was found shot in the foyer of the producer's Alhambra, California home. Spector's lawyers maintain the depressed actress shot herself. The trial began in April and 77 witnesses have taken the stand.

Jennifer Lopez Pregnant?

Jennifer Lopez is pregnant with her first child, according to reports. The singer/actress is due to give birth in the spring, according to U.S. publication In Touch Weekly, which claims Lopez and husband Marc Anthony received the good news after visiting her Beverly Hills gynecologist, fertility specialist Dr. Robert Katz. Sources tell the publication she had an ultrasound performed in a New York office on September 12. One insider says, "The test calculated that she was about 12 weeks pregnant." The couple has been trying to get pregnant for the past two years, and eventually turned to in vitro fertilization. And those close to the couple claim the baby news could be a double blessing - doctors think Lopez, 38, could be expecting twins. A pal tells In Touch, "The way the fetus is lying made it difficult for the doctor to tell if there was more than one baby in there." It is not known whether the baby news will upset the couple's upcoming tour dates, which begin in early November. This will be the couple's first child together. Anthony, 39, already has three children from previous relationships.

Saldana To Play Trek's Uhura

Zoe Saldana is to recreate Nichelle Nichols' iconic Lt. Uhura role in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek epic. The New Jersey-born actress, who co-starred with Britney Spears in Crossroads and played Anna Maria in Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, is the first woman to be added to the cast of the new sci-fi film. Nichols played Uhura in the original Star Trek series and reprised the character for the first six movies. She also made history with the character when her on-screen kiss with co-star William Shatner's Capt. Kirk became the first interracial TV smooch. Saldana joins Heroes star Zachary Quinto, who has signed on to play Spock, and Anton Yelchin, who will play Chekov. The original Mr. Spock, Leonard Nimoy, will also play a cameo in the much-anticipated film.

O'Donnell Snubs Winfrey

Rosie O'Donnell has turned down the chance to appear on Oprah Winfrey's show to promote her new autobiography. The actress-turned-U.S. TV personality, who is currently promoting her memoirs Celebrity Detox, will snub a slot on The Oprah Winfrey Show for an interview with ABC anchor Diane Sawyer. A source tells the New York Daily Post, "She's doing an interview with Diane Sawyer instead. Rosie has always been booked with Diane. We gracefully declined Oprah's offer. I'm sure Rosie will do Oprah's show another time."

Hatcher Splits From Boyfriend

Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher and her boyfriend Stephen Kaye have split. Show creator Marc Cherry revealed the sad news at a Cedars Sinai Medical Center benefit on Saturday. Asked about his leading ladies, Cherry cooed about Marcia Cross' baby twins and insisted Eva Longoria is "glowing" now she's married to basketball star Tony Parker. But when asked to comment on Hatcher, the writer/director said, "Teri's not with a guy right now." Hatcher started dating Kaye - who is co-star Eva Longoria's ex-boyfriend - last year.

Simpson "Robbery" Tape Withheld From Police

An audiotape of O.J. Simpson's alleged armed stand-off in a Las Vegas hotel room has been withheld from police. The tape, obtained by website Tmz.com, was recorded by Thomas Riccio, co-owner of the auction house Universal Rarities. According to Tmz.com, Riccio's lawyer has been negotiating immunity with the Las Vegas District Attorney to ensure his client will not be prosecuted for his part in the alleged robbery or for making an illegal recording. Riccio has vowed to hand over the tape as soon as he receives written confirmation of the immunity deal. Simpson was arrested on Sunday, following an armed raid at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino. Reports suggest he and five associates purported to be part of a group interested in buying memorabilia items from collector Alfred Beardsley before storming the collector's hotel suite and forcing him to hand over items at gunpoint.

McKellen Feared King Lear Would Turn Him Mad

Lord Of The Rings star Sir Ian McKellen fought against playing tragic Shakespearean character King Lear onstage - because he feared the role would make him mad. The 68-year-old thespian has received rave reviews for his latest Royal Shakespeare Company role, but admits he worried the maddening part would be too much for him. He says, "It was one of those parts that I didn't want to play... I'd seen, at close quarters, two Lears and what it cost them (actors). You have to go full pelt at it, 100 percent, with every part of your make-up, at certain points of the evening. I worried for the health, if not the sanity, of the two actors that I was very close to... and I began to think, 'Was it really worth (it), ' to tell a story that is well known and which other actors have succeeded in."

Broadbent Lands Potter Role

Oscar winner Jim Broadbent is set to become Harry Potter's latest teacher after signing on to play Horace Slughorn in Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince. In the Potter books, Slughorn is Hogwarts' potion master and the brains behind the fictitious magic school's Slug Club. The British actor tells DarkHorizons.com, "Slughorn is drawn back out of retirement because he's got some secrets Harry and (headmaster) Dumbledore need in the battle against the Death Eaters. He's quite star-struck as a teacher, and he's drawn back into the fold because he likes to notch up celebrity students."

Pitt & Jolie Want Five More Children

Hollywood couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are considering investing in a giant bed to accommodate their expanding brood. The couple - already parents to Maddox, six; Pax, three; Zahara, two; and 15-month-old Shiloh - has confirmed they are planning on extending their family. Pitt says, "We're not done. They say, 'Any plans for a fifth?' And I say, 'And a sixth, and a seventh, and an eighth, and a ninth.' That's my answer. We also made a 9-foot-wide bed. Just big enough. One more and we'll have to go to 11 feet."
