Spike Lee & Timberlake Winners at Creative Emmys

TV movie Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee emerged victorious at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday night, winning five prizes. The HBO drama took home the awards for Best Make-Up, Best Picture Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing and Best Cinematography. Elsewhere, filmmaker Spike Lee's New Orleans documentary When The Levees Broke: A Requiem In Four Acts won four awards, including Best Director for Lee. Singer Justin Timberlake was also a surprise winner when his spoof track "Dick In A Box," which he performed alongside Saturday Night Live star Andy Samberg, walked away with Best Original Music And Lyrics. Speaking at the Los Angeles ceremony, Samberg joked, "I think it's safe to say that when we first set out to make this song, we were all thinking, 'Emmy!' The other thing we were thinking was, 'Hey! There's this young up-and-comer, Justin Timberlake, who is clearly very talented and could really use a break'." Comedienne Kathy Griffin was also a winner - her TV show Kathy Griffin: My Life On The D-List won Best Reality Program. The Creative Arts Emmys are a precursor to the September 16 airing of The 59th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Ang Lee Triumphs at Venice Film Festival

Director Ang Lee has triumphed at the Venice Film Festival - by winning the event's top award for the second time in two years. The filmmaker was awarded the Golden Lion for Lust, Caution at this year's festival in Italy; the same honor he won in 2005 for Brokeback Mountain. He dedicated his prize to iconic Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, who died in July. Cate Blanchett was named Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival for her role in Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There, while Brad Pitt was awarded the Best Actor honor for The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, although neither star was at the ceremony to collect their prize. Pitt told reporters at the Toronto Film Festival, where he is promoting the outlaw movie, "I could try to play it down, but it's great fun. The nicest thing is how excited my friends are for me and to be amongst the lineage of people that have also been bestowed this honor. It's a really nice honor." Other winners included Brian De Palma, who was honored for Best Direction for Iraq War drama Redacted. British director Ken Loach was awarded Best Screenplay for It's a Free World, while Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci was lauded with a special award for his work in cinema, which includes Last Tango In Paris and The Last Emperor.

Hudgens Wins Disney Backing

Bosses at Disney film studios have dismissed reports they have dropped High School Musical 2 actress Vanessa Anne Hudgens following the circulation of nude photographs of the star online. The 18-year-old's candid mirror-image shots were intended for her boyfriend and High School Musical co-star Zac Efron's eyes only - but an unknown third party stole the pictures and placed one on the internet. Disney studios were then alleged to be firing Hudgens over the snaps, because the scandal had tarnished the teen's squeaky-clean image. But a representative for the company has denied the incident will have repercussions on future casting decisions, and insists Hudgens' apology to fans on Friday proved her remorse. The spokesperson says, "Vanessa has apologized for what was obviously a lapse in judgment."

Jones & Cotillard Join 'Nine' Cast

Catherine Zeta-Jones and French actress Marion Cotillard have won coveted roles in Chicago director Rob Marshall's new movie musical Nine. The European actresses were among many top stars in the running for roles in the big screen adaptation, and now Marshall has confirmed his cast for the project. Zeta-Jones and Cotillard will join Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem in the film. Italian screen siren Sophia Loren will also appear in the film, which will be directed, produced and choreographed by Marshall. Nine revolves around fictional filmmaker Guido Contini, who re-examines his past romances in the midst of a nervous breakdown. The musical claimed the Tony Award for Best Revival when it returned to the Broadway stage in 2003. That production starred Antonio Banderas, Chita Rivera and Jane Krakowski.

Walsh's Wedding Reception Left in Darkness

Actress Kate Walsh's marriage to movie executive Alex Young almost ended in chaos earlier this month, when a heat wave left their wedding reception in the middle of a power blackout. The couple exchanged nuptials on September 1 at the Ojai Presbyterian Church in Ojai, near Los Angeles. But temperatures in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit caused problems and the reception, where stars including Kate Beckinsale and Katherine Heigl were partying, was plunged into darkness. Walsh says, "We had an unexpected heat wave and there was a blackout during the reception dinner, but fortunately there was a back-up generator. It's such a lesson in life - you can only prepare so much."

Foxx Stuns Public With Elevator Behavior

Jamie Foxx stunned journalists and members of the public last week when he banned them from sharing his elevator, according to reports. The Oscar winner was appearing at Los Angeles' Four Season's Hotel to promote his new movie The Kingdom, and insisted he traveled in the building's lifts without being hassled by fellow guests. A source tells the New York Daily News' Page Six, "He told guests of the hotel and journalists to leave the elevator. Then, at every floor where the elevator stopped, the bodyguard would stand with his arm stretched out and say, 'You can't enter' to anyone who tried to get in. A lot of us were like, 'Who does Jamie think he is?'" However a spokesperson for the star has denied the incident, insisting, "There were four to five people in the elevator with Foxx at the time and rushing to get to interviews to promote his film."

Hilton Sues Card Company

Reality TV star Paris Hilton is suing a card company for allegedly using her likeness and trademarked 'That's hot' phrase without permission. The hotel heiress filed her lawsuit against Hallmark Cards in Los Angeles' Federal District Court on Thursday, citing invasion of privacy and misappropriating her image. She is seeking more than $500,000 in damages and a permanent injunction preventing Hallmark from further using her name and likeness. According to the lawsuit, Hallmark's card features Hilton's face superimposed on top of a cartoon waitress serving food. The catchphrase reads: "Don't touch that, it's hot. What's hot? That's hot."

Mortensen Praises Co-Star Watts

Actor Viggo Mortensen has lavished praise on Naomi Watts - for refusing to develop a preoccupation with how she looks. The Lord Of The Rings star Mortensen worked with Watts on new David Cronenberg movie Eastern Promises, and was impressed how the Britain-born beauty successfully combined intelligence with her good looks, and never got distracted from her performance. He says, "Watts has beauty and brains, she can't really not look attractive. What I respect is that not only does she act really well in the movie but she looks like she has that job. Everybody talks about how people look, the dress they wear and 'I hated her hair!' and all this kind of stupid stuff. It's very distracting, I think, for a performer - especially actresses. In some cases, that preoccupation with image carries over into movies and ruins even good performances, but never with Watts."

Falco To Join '30 Rock'

Former The Sopranos actress Edie Falco is set to join the Alec Baldwin in his hit TV show 30 Rock. Emmy winner Falco, who played mob boss Tony Soprano's wife Carmela on the HBO series, will appear in three episodes of the sitcom about a Saturday Night Live-type TV show. She says, "I have laughed out loud at this show, and I am thrilled for the opportunity to work with such great comic actors." Series creator and star Tina Fey adds, "We're thrilled to have such an amazing actress come join us, a lot of guys on our crew want The Sopranos' ending explained to them."

Affleck & Phoenix Expecting Second Child

Actor Casey Affleck's wife Summer Phoenix is pregnant with the couple's second child. Affleck and Phoenix, who are the siblings of Ben Affleck and Joaquin Phoenix respectively, married in 2006 and already have a three-year-old son, Indiana. The baby is due this winter. Affleck's spokeswoman Rebecca Feferman says, "They're very happy and excited about the new addition to their family."
