Lohan To Serve One Day in Jail

Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan will serve one day in jail and perform 10 days of community service after pleading guilty to two of the seven misdemeanor charges against her. The Just My Luck star had been charged with driving under the influence and being under the influence of cocaine in relation to two drunk-driving arrests in Beverly Hills, California and nearby Santa Monica in May and July of this year. Police allegedly found cocaine in the star's possession on both occasions, although officials say the amount of the drug was below the 0.05 grams required for a felony offence. Under the terms of plea agreement, reached at a hearing in Beverly Hills on Thursday, Lohan must now serve a 24-hour jail term, after the judge cut a mandatory four-day jail sentence in half and ordered her to carry out 10 days of community service. A further day was then taken off the sentence because of time Lohan has already served during her arrests. The 21-year-old, who is currently seeking treatment in a Utah rehab clinic and didn't attend the hearing, has issued the following statement: "It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs. Recently, I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed. I broke the law, and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case. No matter what I said when I was under the influence on the day I was arrested, I am not blaming anyone else for my conduct other than myself. I thank God I did not injure others. I easily could have. I very much want to be healthy and gain control of my life and career and have asked for medical help in doing so. I am taking these steps to improve my life. Luckily, I am not alone in my daily struggle and I know that people like me have succeeded. Maybe with time it will become easier. I hope so."

Richie Free After 80 Minutes Behind Bars

Nicole Richie is a free woman after serving just over an hour of a four-day sentence in prison. The pregnant socialite was booked, released and sent home in an 80-minute spell at the Century Regional Facility in Lynwood, California on Thursday. A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department explains prison population levels prompted officials to release Richie after the briefest prison spell. In a press release, the sheriff's spokesman writes, "At this time, the criteria for a female arrestee sentenced to 30-days or less for a non-violent offense is as follows: the arrestee is booked, screened and usually released within 12 hours. This procedure is based on jail overcrowding to manage population levels mandated by Federal Court guidelines. Based on the mandated guidelines and Ms. Richie's 96 hours sentence, she will be treated in the same manner as other inmates with a similar sentence." Richie was charged with a misdemeanor Dui on July 27 and was sentenced to 36 months of summary probation. If she violates probation, she will have to serve one year in jail. Richie was arrested on Deceember 11 when she found driving her Mercedes Benz the wrong way down California State Route 134 highway in Burbank, California. After failing an on-field sobriety test, Richie admitted to having smoked marijuana and taking a vicodin painkiller. Richie is five months pregnant with rocker boyfriend Joel Madden's baby.

Dunst's Hotel Room Robbed

Hollywood actress Kirsten Dunst was targeted by thieves who swiped a $13,000 handbag from her hotel room in New York City. The Spider-Man 3 star was staying at the SoHo Grand Hotel in Manhattan to film her forthcoming movie How to Lose Friends and Alienate People when the thieves struck. The gang stole designer bags, $2,500 in cash, credit and ID cards, two digital cameras, a cellphone and an iPod music player. A surveillance camera captured the burglars leaving the establishment with the items. One of the suspects, Jarrod Beinerman, was being held on $50,000 bond after being arraigned in a Manhattan court on Wednesday on burglary and grand larceny charges. Authorities have since recovered credit cards, IDs and the cellphone.

Gibson Praised in DUI Hearing

Mel Gibson has been praised for his progress by a California judge following his arrest for driving under the influence last year. The Signs star, 51, was arrested for drunk driving on July 28, 2006 in Malibu, when he proceeded to verbally abuse arresting officer James Mee with anti-Semitic remarks. In August 2006, Gibson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor drunk driving charges and was sentenced to three years probation, a 90 day alcohol-abuse program and 12 months of Alcoholic Anonymous meetings. Gibson's lawyer Blair Berk attended a Malibu court on Thursday where a judge announced Gibson was free to attend AA meetings on a voluntary basis, Tmz.com reports. The actor/director is scheduled to appear in court for a further hearing on February 15.

Baby Drama for Moynahan

New mum Bridget Moynahan had to give up her plans for a natural birth in hospital on Wednesday after difficulties developed towards the end of her pregnancy, according to U.S. reports. The I, Robot star delivered her first child, a baby boy, at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California after medics were forced to perform a caesarean section. Sources tell American magazine In Touch Weekly, Moynahan's baby was in a "transverse lie," leaving her doctor with no alternative. Despite the last minute concerns, the actress' spokeswoman says, "Mother and baby are doing well." Meanwhile, In Touch reports that the baby's father, American football star Tom Brady, missed the birth by minutes. Brady, who split from Moynahan in December, reportedly arrived at the hospital carrying a large bunch of orchids and white flowers shortly after 2pm - just minutes too late.

Blonsky To Reprise 'Hairspray' Role on Broadway?

Hairspray star Nikki Blonsky is desperate to reprise her role as Tracy Turnblad on Broadway. The 18-year-old plays the dancing teen in the big-screen musical remake, but insists the pull of live theatre makes her determined to succeed on the stage. She says, "Well, you know, maybe, definitely it's been brought to my attention and it's something that I think about every single day especially coming to the openings of Grease, and I went to the opening of Spring Awakening. I definitely go into live theatre; it perks me up, and makes me want to do it."

Director Tornatore Mugged

Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore has been hospitalized in Rome after being mugged by two men. The Cinema Paradiso filmmaker, 51, was walking in the Italian capital on Tuesday evening when he was attacked by two young males. He was admitted to hospital for head trauma and other minor injuries. Tornatore can recall being asked for directions by one of the muggers, before being hit on the head. He says, "After that I don't remember anything." The two men stole the director's wallet, watch and mobile phone.

Jackson Mistaken for Homeless Man

Samuel L. Jackson was mistaken for a homeless person after straying off the set of his new movie in full costume and make-up. Jackson plays a former boxer who finds himself homeless in Resurrecting The Champ and admits his on-set look was so convincing, fellow vagrants thought he was also seeking shelter. He says, "I was walking around, smoking cigarettes and these guys thought I was one of them and then when we went to the shelter to eat for the lunch scene with Josh Hartnett, I kind of fooled a lot of people there too."

Allen Meant No Harm by Winehouse Toast

Lily Allen has hit back at reports she mocked troubled pop rival Amy Winehouse at a recent British festival appearance, insisting she was simply toasting the singer's good health. Allen is upset that her V Festival comments aimed at Winehouse, who was forced to pull out of her performance at the event after collapsing following an alleged drug overdose, were taken out of context. During her set, Allen poured herself a shot of Jagermeister and told fans, "It's the end of the weekend, you have got to have a drink. Here's to Amy Winehouse." And, in a posting on her famous blog site, Allen insists she meant what she said: "Me raising a drink to Amy was just that, showing my support for her. I've been around enough alcoholism to know that it is a serious matter."

Walsh To Marry in Early September

Grey's Anatomy star Kate Walsh will marry her fiance Alex Young over America's Labor Day weekend. The couple became engaged after movie mogul Young proposed in May, and they plan to wed at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa in California in a sunset ceremony. Walsh will wear a custom-made Monique Lhuillier wedding dress. Guests at the ceremony will include Walsh's Grey's Anatomy co-stars Katherine Heigl and Sara Ramirez, according to People.com. Bacon Shaved His Head for Real

Kevin Bacon insisted on shaving his head for real for new move Death Sentence. The actor plays a man who kills his son's murderer in the film - and was determined to make it as realistically as possible. He says, "I said to the director: 'Wouldn't it be great to actually see me shave my head and not have to use bald caps or wigs or anything?' So I did. It was a tense moment, because you can only do it once and if it doesn't work you're screwed. There's no gluing the hair back on."
