Talk Show Host Tom Snyder Dies at 71
Talk show host Tom Snyder, who gained fame as the host of the late-night talk show The Tomorrow Show in the 1970s, died Sunday in San Francisco after a battle with leukemia; he was 71. A casual, smart and gregarious interviewer who wouldn't hesitate to grill his guests, Snyder's interviews on his talk show were a staple of the 70s, airing after Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show on NBC. His interview subjects were wide and varied, ranging from John Lennon to Ayn Rand to Charles Manson, as well as a number of rock stars, including Johnny Rotten, The Clash, and KISS, who made a notorious Halloween appearance on his show in 1979. Snyder was also the memorable target of a legendary impersonation by Dan Aykroyd on Saturday Night Live. In 1982, The Tomorrow Show was canceled to make room for the fledgling Late Night with David Letterman, though Snyder returned to the late night format in 1995 with The Late, Late Show on CBS, which he hosted until 1998. In 2005, Snyder announced on his Web site that he was battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Lohan's Legal Woes Get Even Worse

The man whose foot Lindsay Lohan drove over as she left a party in pursuit of a former assistant is threatening to sue the actress. Ronnie Blake was one of three partygoers who was inside a white GMC SUV when the intoxicated Mean Girls star allegedly commandeered the vehicle to chase Tarin Grahame through the streets of Malibu, California last Monday night. But Blake managed to get out of the vehicle just before Lohan sped off, with his two pals, Dante Nigro and Jakon Sutter fearing for their lives inside. The three men have now hired attorney Randall Billington to represent them as they consider legal action against Lohan. If the action goes ahead, Blake will be seeking damages for his injuries, while Nigro and Sutter are considering pressing false imprisonment and stolen vehicle charges. Billington insists the trio should not be seen as opportunists looking to get rich quick from a celebrity. He says, "It was a surprise to them that the vehicle was taken without their permission. They were unable to remove themselves from the vehicle while it was traveling... They never expected to be in a car with her (Lohan)." After speeding the GMC around the streets of Malibu, Lohan allegedly went to Grahame's home in Santa Monica, where she began a second chase with her former assistant's mother, facialist to the stars Michelle Peck. Peck called police to report the facts she was being chased and the authorities arrested Lohan in a car park a block away from a police station in Santa Monica.
Spielberg Threatens To Quit Beijing Olympic Role

Filmmaker Steven Spielberg has threatened to leave his position as artistic director of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, unless China takes action against Sudan. China is a major investor in the African country's oil industry and has been criticized for failing to send United Nations peacekeeping troops to the troubled Darfur region. The Chinese have also been accused of selling weapons to Sudan. Spielberg wrote to Chinese president Hu Jintao in May urging him to use his influence to encourage Sudan to accept peacekeepers. Now he is warning he will decide in the next month if he will withdraw his support of the games. His spokesman Andy Spahn says, "Steven is one (of) many advisers to the Beijing Games and he is trying to use the games to engage the Chinese on this issue. Steven will make a determination in the next few weeks regarding his work with the Chinese. Our main interest is ending the genocide. No one is clear on the best way to do this." Spielberg's move comes after actress Mia Farrow criticized him for supporting the games. She said, "Does Mr. Spielberg really want to go down in history as the Leni Riefenstahl of the Beijing Games?"

Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband Prince Frederic Von Anhalt has spoken out about the "horror" of being robbed and stripped at gunpoint - as he sat in the front seat of his Rolls Royce in swanky Bel Air. Los Angeles police are investigating claims the Hungarian royal was tricked into letting three female 'tourists', who requested a group photograph with him, into his car. He alleges one of the women held a gun to his head and he was forced to hand over a platinum and diamond watch, $1,800 in cash and his car keys before the robbers told Von Anhalt to strip. He claims the trio then strapped him to his steering wheel and took off. Von Anhalt called the police and a producer at entertainment news TV show Entertainment Tonight - to report his humiliating misfortune. He says, "I was in horror. You don't know if you're going to get out of it alive... I'm not gonna sleep the next couple of nights, that's for sure." The Prince, who claimed he was the biological father of Anna Nicole Smith's child Dannielynn earlier this year, admits he didn't call his ailing wife to tell her of the robbery at gunpoint because that would have been cruel. Von Anhalt, who has been married to Gabor for 21 years, adds, "To call a sick woman in a situation like that... I didn't call my wife."
Usher and Foster's "Disagreements" Led to Wedding Cancellation

R&B star Usher's wedding to Tameka Foster on Saturday was scrapped because of a series of disagreements between the pair, according to reports. The superstar was hoping to wed his pregnant fiance on Saturday afternoon at record executive Antonio 'L.A.' Reid's home in Long Island, New York. But the ceremony was called off just hours before the pair were due to get married, allegedly due to a string of differences in opinion between the couple and Usher's mother's disapproval of the impending nuptials. A source tells People.com, "Usher's mother (and former manager, Jonetta Patton, whom he fired in May) is against the wedding. That is one of the main obstacles. They only decided two weeks ago to have a wedding. They wanted to have it take place before the baby bump started showing." However, another source tells the site, "Usher changed his mind" on the day, adding, "(the couple) had a lot of differences about the details. For example, the bride wanted barbeque, (Usher) wanted to have (renowned chef) Jean Georges cook. (Due to the differences, the wedding) was on again off again for the past few days. (Foster) was calling it off because she wasn't getting the things that she wanted. The mother was calling it off. ... Usher was calling it off." Usher's spokeswoman, Patti Webster issued a statement on Saturday, refusing to comment on whether or not the couple had split. She said, "No additional information will be given regarding the circumstances of the cancellation, but we hope the privacy of this matter will be respected." Usher announced his stylist girlfriend Foster was pregnant in January and the couple confirmed engagement reports in June.

Rowling Writing Two More Books
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix author J.K. Rowling is already working on two more books - only days after her final Harry Potter novel became the fastest-selling book in history. The millionaire writer has made a fortune from the hugely popular series - but she isn't ready to retire. She says, "I'm sort of writing two things at the moment. One is for children and the other is not for children. The weird thing is that this is exactly the way I started writing Harry... I was writing two things simultaneously for a year before Harry took over. So one will oust the other in due course, and I'll know that's my next thing."
