Hilton Released from Jail

Socialite Paris Hilton has been released from prison after serving 23 days of her 45-day sentence. The hotel heiress was sentenced to 45 days in prison last month after being found guilty of violating her probation from a drunk driving arrest last year. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy Dana Camarillo agreed to the star's early release from Lynwood California's Century Regional Detention Center for good behavior. The 26-year-old was met by waiting paparazzi as she left the prison at 12:15am on Tuesday. The star will give her first live interview following her release from prison to talk show host Larry King.

Lohan To Complete Extended Rehab Program

Troubled star Lindsay Lohan will carry out an "extended program" in rehab - but will not spend her 21st birthday in the facility, according to her mother Dina. The Georgia Rule actress was charged with a driving under the influence after crashing her car in Beverly Hills, California last month, and checked into rehab facility Promises shortly afterwards. Dina Lohan claims her daughter is "doing great" and will stay at the facility to complete an extended care program, which is designed to "make the transition from residential alcohol or drug rehab treatment back into their community". She says, "I talk to her every day." She reveals Lohan will not spend her landmark birthday in rehab following the cancellation of her Las Vegas party earlier this month, but will celebrate it with her family out of the facility.

Cruise Responds to German Filming Ban

Tom Cruise has vowed Scientology will have no impact on his portrayal of a legendary German assassin, after being banned from filming at the country's military bases because of his controversial beliefs. The actor is set to begin shooting Valkyrie in Germany this summer. In the film he plays Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, leader of an unsuccessful plot to kill Adolf Hitler during World War II. However, permission to film scenes on genuine army sites has been denied by the country's Defense Ministry because Scientology is viewed as a "money-making cult" instead of legitimate church by the German government. However, Cruise is adamant his beliefs have nothing to do with characterization, and is desperate to shoot the movie on location in von Stauffenberg's homeland. His producing partner and United Artists CEO Paula Wagner says, "Aside from his obvious admiration of the man he is portraying, Mr. Cruise's personal beliefs have absolutely no bearing on the movie's plot, themes, or content. And even though we could shoot the movie anywhere in the world, we believe Germany is the only place we can truly do the story justice." Von Stauffenberg's briefcase bomb in 1944 only succeeded in wounding Hitler. He was executed by firing squad for the plot the next morning.

Police: "Benoit Suffocated Wife & Son, Killed Himself"

Wrestling superstar Chris Benoit murdered his wife and seven-year-old son before killing himself, police have confirmed. Cops discovered the dead family at their Atlanta, Georgia home on Monday afternoon. Detectives believe 40-year-old former World Heavyweight Champion Benoit asphyxiated his wife Nancy and son Daniel on Friday and Saturday respectively, before hanging himself on Sunday. At this time, authorities are baffled as to Benoit's motive. District Attorney Scott Ballard admits, "When you're talking about the death of a seven-year-old boy, what motive could there be? (The deaths are) quite bizarre. None of it takes away from the fact that it's just a huge tragedy. I'm just blown away by the fact that a seven-year-old boy has been killed." Chris and Nancy Benoit wed in 2000. According to local newspaper the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Nancy filed for divorce in May 2003, accusing her husband of domestic abuse. The divorce petition was withdrawn in August 2003.

Sizemore's 16-Month Drugs Sentence Halved

Actor Tom Sizemore's 16-month prison sentence has been cut in half thanks to the 213 days he has already spent behind bars and in court-imposed rehab. The Black Hawk Down star was sentenced to serve jail time for violating his probation in a 2004 crystal methamphetamine possession case. But he's already received the good news that his original sentence has been cut in half - to eight months. A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge credited Sizemore with 213 days for time already spent in jail and in two live-in drug treatment programs on Tuesday. Sizemore will serve his sentence at Donovan Correctional Facility near San Diego, California. The 45-year-old star previously admitted violating his probation when police found two bags of crystal methamphetamine and pipes in his possession during an arrest last month in Bakersfield, California. In a court appearance last week, he tearfully begged the judge to give him another chance to overcome his drug problems.

Metcalfe Denies "Fabricated" Drinking Story

Former Desperate Housewives actor Jesse Metcalfe has dismissed a report he has started drinking again as "completely false." Earlier this year, Metcalfe spent a month in a California rehab clinic to receive treatment for "alcohol issues." The 28-year-old is furious with a story printed in a recent issue of American magazine In Touch Weekly, which reported he was spotted drinking a Heineken beer at a John Mayer concert and was "not sober." Metcalfe's lawyer Marty Singer has written a letter, obtained by website Tmz.com, to In Touch and its parent company Bauer Publishing, demanding an "appropriate retraction, correction, and apology" or face "substantial liability."

Depardieu Ordered to Court Over Head Butt

French film star Gerard Depardieu has been ordered to appear in court over his attack on an Italian photographer two years ago. The Green Card actor head-butted the photographer during a shopping trip in Florence, Italy with a female companion. Dario Orlandi was taken to hospital after the attack and claims he could not work for four days - however, Depardieu maintains he warned the snapper to leave him alone. Speaking just after the incident the fiery Frenchman said, "(I said) 'Now be nice, you've taken your pictures, leave us be.' 'This isn't a safari: there are risks and the risk is that you will get my head in your face.' Then he said: 'Gerard, I'll leave you alone.' I go out and this guy keeps snapping me to death... I put my hands in my pockets and I ask him why he hadn't listened to what I had told him. He tells me untruthfully, taking me for an idiot: 'Gerard, I'm not taking pictures.' So my head delivers a single butt, which means two teeth less, and to tell you the truth, I'm pretty satisfied." He has been summoned to appear in a Florence court.

Raimi "Unsure" About Spider-Man Future

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is unsure about superhero franchise' future - insisting he does not know what his "future holds yet." Despite this year's release of Spider-Man 3 setting the box-office alight, it's rumored Raimi will not be back for the fourth installment if actors Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst do not return. He tells MTV News, "Sony Pictures is going to be making many more Spider-Man pictures. I just don't know what (my) future holds yet. It would be really hard for me to make a movie without Tobey and Kirsten playing the two leads. I would still hope that Sony would offer it to me (to direct) first."

Simpson Plans Swimwear Line

Jessica Simpson is launching a new bikini line. The busty pop star/actress will reportedly debut the swimsuit next month during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Miami Beach, Florida. A Simpson insider tells American magazine In Touch Weekly the swimwear line features skimpy designs and more modest one-piece suits. The singer, who helped design the outfits, is so invested in the new line she is personally selecting the models who will show off the stylish suits on the catwalk. The beachwear is the latest venture for enterprising Simpson, who also boasts a skincare empire, hair extension project and a shoe and clothing line.

Parker and Morgan Split

Weeds stars Mary-Louise Parker and Jeffrey Dean Morgan have split up after a brief romance. Parker and Morgan, who play husband and wife on the hit show, started dating late last year. However, Morgan admits his relationship with his co-star is over. He says, "I am a single guy. I look for somebody with a sense of humor, someone that laughs at my bad jokes, and wants to have fun in life. That's kind of the key."
