Hilton Ordered Back to Prison

LATEST: A judge has ordered Paris Hilton back to jail to serve out her entire 45-day sentence for a probation violation, after a frenzied roundelay of events that saw the socialite released from prison to house custody, only to be ordered back to court the next day. According to witnesses, she was taken from the courtroom while crying and screaming for her mother. A Los Angeles judge had earlier stepped in and ordered her to appear at a court hearing Friday - after she was reportedly given permission to sit in on the hearing via the phone. Lawyers representing the socialite have been locked in a battle with the Los Angeles City Attorney and the Sheriff's Department over whether she could be allowed to stay at home for the hearing following her release from jail yesterday. After initially reporting that she had been granted permission to phone in her appearance, TMZ.com reported that Judge Michael T. Sauer has ordered Hilton to appear in court Friday afternoon and dispatched a car to pick her up from her Hollywood home. Hilton was in floods of tears when she left her home, handcuffed, to attend the court hearing in the back of a police car. Prosecutors appealed the decision to release Hilton on house arrest yesterday, which would have allowed her to finish her sentence for violating probation at home. Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Baca insists the decision was made on medical grounds, but critics believe she was granted preferential treatment. The 26-year-old was serving a 23-day sentence in Los Angeles' Century Regional Detention Center for violating her probation following a 2006 drunk-driving arrest.

Washington "Mad as Hell" Over 'Grey's Anatomy' Firing

Isaiah Washington is "mad as hell" after learning he was fired from hit U.S. medical drama Grey's Anatomy. The troubled actor's future on the show has been in doubt ever since he made a homophobic remark about castmate T.R. Knight last October - a comment he repeated at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year. And at the end of season three his character, Dr. Preston Burke, was seen packing his bags on the cliffhanger finale. Washington's spokesperson Howard Bragman confirmed his client had received a call from the show's creator Shonda Rimes informing the actor that he was "not invited back to the show next season", and the 43-year-old star today released a statement addressing the situation. In the statement, he simply says, "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore."

Connery Won't Be in 'Indiana Jones IV'

Sir Sean Connery has announced he will not be returning for the next film in the Indiana Jones franchise. The 76-year-old had been tipped to reprise his role from 1989's Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade as Harrison Ford's screen father, but has now confirmed he is sticking to his 2005 resolution to quit acting. He says, "I thought long and hard about it, and if anything could have pulled me out of retirement it would have been an Indiana Jones film. I love working with Steven and George, and it goes without saying that it is an honor to have Harrison as my son. But in the end, retirement is just too damned much fun." Elsewhere, John Hurt has been added to the cast. It is unclear what character the veteran star will play, but he is joining Ford, Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett and Ray Winstone on the movie. Connery adds, "This is a remarkable cast, and I can only say, 'Break a leg, everyone.' I'll see you at the theatre."

Heche Accused of Lying To Win Custody of Son

Anne Heche's estranged husband Coley Laffoon has accused the actress of resorting to lies to win custody of their five year old son Homer. Laffoon filed papers yesterday at Los Angeles Superior Court which refuted Heche's claims she had a close relationship with her son - calling her statements "replete with blatant falsehoods." Court papers claim, "(Heche's) credibility should also be called into question as a result of her mental instability which was highly publicized in her 2001 autobiography entitled Call Me Crazy." Heche had accused Laffoon of frequenting strip clubs, playing poker and ping-pong and watching online porn while they were together. However, he hits back in the documents, claiming, "(Heche is) desperately trying to throw mud against the wall hoping that something will divert the eyes of the Court away from the true facts of this case. The truth is that Heche loves to play poker, too," adding, "I have never been preoccupied with sexually graphic material...(Heche) and I occasionally watched porn when we were together." He also claimed the last time he went to a strip club was with Heche and her Men In Trees co-star James Tupper and his wife. The filing also states, "I did not know at that time that (Heche) was having an affair with James, nor did James' wife." Laffoon filed for divorce in February after Heche's romance with Tupper hit the headlines.

Hilton's Early Release Slammed by L.A. City Attorney

The decision to release Paris Hilton from jail yesterday after just three days inside has been slammed by Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo. Delgadillo is furious the Sheriff's Department didn't consult him before permitting Hilton's release on medical grounds. The socialite was serving a 23 day sentence in the Century Regional Detention Center for violating her parole following a 2006 drunk-driving arrest. Hilton has been fitted with an ankle bracelet and will now serve 40 days under house arrest. Delgadillo says in a statement: "Today I was extremely troubled to learn that the Sheriff's Department has decided to release Ms. Hilton from custody just three days after she was admitted to county jail. Had we been provided with the proper notification, we would have opposed the decision on legal grounds. I am also concerned that the judicial process may have been improperly circumvented in this case. I have directed my criminal branch to immediately explore all possible legal options to ensure that the law is being applied equally and justly in this case. If law enforcement officials are to enjoy the respect of those we are charged with protecting, we cannot tolerate a two-tiered jail system where the rich and powerful receive special treatment." Civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton is also highly critical of Hilton's early release. He says, "This early release gives all the appearances of economic and racial favoritism that is constantly cited by poor people and people of color. There are any number of cases of people who handle being incarcerated badly and even have health conditions that are not released."

New Yorker Sues Over 'Borat' Street Scene

A New York resident is suing the makers of Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan, claiming his civil rights were violated during his brief cameo. Jeffrey Lemerond, 31, has filed suit under the name John Doe, in a U.S. District Court, after he appeared in the 2006 movie running away in fear from Sacha Baron Cohen's Kazakh character Borat Sadiyev. In the suit, Lemerond claims he did not give permission for his likeness to be used in the movie and "as a result of defendant's outrageous and illegal conducts, Plaintiff has suffered public ridicule, degradation and humiliation." Lemerond noted that while Fox studios pixilated his face in the movie's trailer, they did not follow suit in the actual movie and subsequent DVD release, according to documents posted on TheSmokingGun.com.

White Sued Over 'Year of the Dog'

Filmmaker Mike White is being sued over his latest film Year Of The Dog by his former friend Laura Kightlinger, who claims she gave him the idea for the movie. Kightlinger has filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court, claming she gave him the script named We Are Animals about a woman who loves rescuing cats. Year Of The Dog, which stars Molly Shannon, centers on a pet-obsessive. White tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, "They are totally different scripts. I know there is a similarity in the sense that (the female leads) both have pets that they care about, but beyond that, everything she is saying that is similar seems like a real stretch to me. The only thing that has ever mattered to me as far as my work was that people thought I was original and that I had integrity. I never cared if they thought I was weird or uncommercial or an acquired taste or whatever. That Laura is seeking publicity for herself by trying to damage what I have spent my career trying to create seems cruel." Kightlinger's lawyer Jennifer McGrath says, "Our claim is not a copyright claim but rather a breach of 'implied' contract claim. Mike and Laura were friends, but he was also a writer-producer. There was an expectation that if she told him her idea and he was going to use it in some way, she would be paid and she would also be involved in the project."

Trachtenberg Dating Nightclub Manager

Actress Michelle Trachtenberg has found love in the arms of a New York nightclub manager, according to U.S. reports. The Buffy The Vampire Slayer beauty, 21, has been spotted on a string of dates with 26-year-old Brandon Hirsch. According to People.com, the couple hooked up at the Killers' Las Vegas concert on Friday and were virtually inseparable for the rest of the weekend. A source says, "They stayed by each other's sides all night and they were making out all night. (Michelle's) becoming bicoastal and spending a lot more time in New York to be with him." The pair reportedly first met two years ago but only renewed the acquaintance six months ago.

Lohan Talked of Loneliness Before Entering Rehab

Troubled star Lindsay Lohan was feeling "very lonely" in the weeks running up to her entering rehab at the end of last month. The Georgia Rule actress was charged with a driving under the influence after crashing her car in Beverly Hills, California on May 26, and checked into a rehab facility shortly afterwards. In an interview with Los Angeles Confidential magazine just two weeks earlier, Lohan talked about the pressures on young Hollywood stars. She said, "The real hard thing about L.A. is that it's all about one thing. Everyone always wants something. This industry is very lonely; I tend to get very lonely. When it's a Sunday and no one's around, and you see no cars go by, it's a challenge."

Pacino: "The Worse the Script, the More I Get Paid"

Veteran actor Al Pacino finds it baffling when he reads movie scripts - because the worse the script, the more the job pays. The Oscar winner insists top actors make very little money when they accept parts based on a decent script. He tells Variety, "I can almost state this is a fact. The worse the script is, the more money you're offered. Show me a bad script, and I will show you a big payday. Conversely, show me a really great script and forget it. You're lucky if you don't have to pay for it."

Sambora Enters Rehab

Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora has checked into rehab. The 47-year-old guitarist has entered an undisclosed rehab facility to treat a currently unknown substance abuse problem. A statement released to website People.com reads, "Richie Sambora has entered an undisclosed treatment facility in Los Angeles. He asks that you respect he and his family's privacy at this time." Sambora's divorce from actress Heather Locklear was finalized in April and he split from girlfriend Denise Richards earlier this year.
