Lohan's Rep Begs Media for Privacy in Rehab
's representatives have addressed the actress' return to rehab, pleading with the press to "respect her privacy." The 20-year-old, who was arrested for driving under the influence on Saturday after crashing her Mercedes in Beverly Hills, entered the Promises clinic in Malibu on Monday - a day earlier than previously thought. A statement posted on Tmz.com reads, "Lindsay admitted herself to an intensive medical rehabilitation facility on Memorial Day. Because this is a medical matter, it is our hope that the press will appreciate the seriousness of the situation and respect the privacy of Lindsay as well as the other patients receiving treatment at the facility." Earlier this year, the Georgia Rule
star received treatment at rehab clinic the Wonderland Center in Hollywood.
Actress Was Murdered, Doctor Tells Spector Court
A medical examiner has told the Phil Spector
murder trial the actress who died in the music producer's home was murdered and did not commit suicide. Deputy county medical examiner Dr. Louis Pena yesterday told the Los Angeles hearing the bruising on victim Lana Clarkson
's tongue was consistent with blunt force trauma, ruling out the defense's argument she shot herself. He said, "The bruise is very unique and is consistent with blunt force trauma. Something struck the tongue." Pena added that he found another two bruises, one on each of Clarkson's hands, consistent with the blunt trauma she suffered. She died instantly after a gun was fired inside her mouth, Pena told the court. He said, "This is an immediate incapacitation wound given the location. She may have taken perhaps at best one really shallow breath." Pena testified that his opinion the actress was murdered didn't just come from his autopsy - but also from her medical history, which showed no sign of depression, her personal writings and the circumstances surrounding her death. He also said the location where Clarkson died - the foyer of Spector's Alhambra, California home - would be an unlikely place for someone to commit suicide. Spector is accused of the fatal shooting of Clarkson in February 2003. He has pleaded not guilty and claims Clarkson committed suicide. The trial continues.
Richie's Email Invite Causes a Fuss
Troubled socialite Nicole Richie
is making new enemies after a joke e-mail invite to a Memorial Day party fell into the wrong hands. The Simple Life
star was poking fun at the news stories about her own DUI and weight loss issues in the invite, which encourages pals to "celebrate our country by drinking massive amounts of beer." But experts aren't laughing after the invite was obtained by American publication In Touch Weekly. Richie, who faces a possible jail term in court next month following a drink driving arrest last year, ends the ill-advised e-vite by jokingly urging her friends to "start starving yourself" so they're thin enough to enter the party. She writes, "There will be a scale at the front door. No girls over 100 pounds allowed in. Start starving yourself now." Leading therapist Dr. Joyce Brothers
is among those who feel Richie should have thought twice before she sent out the invite. She says, "(She is) thumbing her nose at the people in rehab. It's a huge form of acting out." Ironically, the party itself made headlines - Richie's pal Mischa Barton
was taken to the hospital after suffering a bad reaction to medication at the bash, according to In Touch Weekly. And Richie made the news again after the party - she was involved in a minor accident as she left the bash.
Portman Reps Upset About 'Star Wars' Snub Story
Actress Natalie Portman
's publicist has fired back at reports the actress is upset she wasn't invited to attend the 30th anniversary celebrations of Star Wars
in Los Angeles. British tabloids ran with the story yesterday, with Portman quoted as saying the apparent snub was "upsetting" as she would have loved to have been a part of the five-day Star Wars
Celebration IV earlier this month. But the 25-year-old actress' publicist insists the story is untrue, Portman was misquoted and she wouldn't have been able to attend the party even if she had been invited. The rep says, "Natalie wasn't even in the country... The story is false and all the quotes are made up."
Spears Left "Numb" by Tabloid Coverage
Pop superstar Britney Spears
has given up trying to control her public image, insisting she has become "numb" from all the media attention. The singer, who earlier this year entered a rehab facility after having her head shaved, admits false tabloid reports used to leave her furious. She writes in a post on her website: "It's so funny how many stories are put out there about people. It's like we all want our side of the story out there as well, but at the end of the day only a few people care to hear what is really going on since the bad is always so much more interesting than the truth. I used to be angry at the tabloids for printing horrible things about me, but now I try to just be numb to what I see."
Spelling Love Rival Stunned by Gossip Column Report
Canadian TV personality Mary Jo Eustace
was stunned to find out from a New York gossip column her husband was leaving her for actress Tori Spelling
. The mother-of-two was celebrating her birthday with children Jack, 8 and two-year-old Lola when she found out her husband Dean McDermott
had been romantically linked to his Mind over Murder co-star. She tells People magazine, "My birthday weekend last year, I came home and somebody called me and said there was going to be something in Page Six...So it just kind of exploded." Eustace's fears were confirmed when she was told by McDermott he was leaving the family home for his "soulmate."
Minnelli Wants Dress Returned
has launched a campaign to retrieve a dress designed for her in the 1970s - after spotting it in a magazine on model Ilse Werther. The dress, made by late legendary fashion designer Roy Halston
, was created for the 61-year-old singing star in the 1970s, but was given to Werther's mother, Maj Kalfus, who later bequeathed it to her former model daughter. A source tells the New York Daily News a representative of Minnelli called Werther, saying, "That's Ms. Minnelli's dress, and she wants you to send it to her." Halston had reportedly donated the dress to Kalfus after Minnelli's weight fluctuations meant she no longer fitted into the garment. But Werther is quoted as saying she will "never" return the frock to the star.
Myers Overshadowed by French Shrek in Cannes
Movie star Mike Myers
was shocked to have been overshadowed by the French voice of Shrek, actor Alain Chabat
, when they both appeared at the Cannes Film Festival last week for the screening of Shrek The Third
. The comedian has met all 26 foreign "Shreks" who re-voice his role in their prospective countries, but Myers was surprised to be upstaged by Chabat at the French film event, admitting he's not used to being pushed aside. He tells British film magazine, Empire, "It was weird in Cannes when we got out of the car at the screening and we're up on the Jumbotron and there's 20,000 people there. When Alain Chabat
came out people were jumping up in the air, French people exploding, they couldn't believe it. I get out and it's like cricket, cricket, cricket. You know when you open a car door and it makes that ning, ning, ning, ning sound? You could actually hear that. I was like, 'Hey, I'm in the movie too. If you were in America, you'd like me.'"
Shakira Breaks Mexico City Record

has broken the record for the largest audience at a public concert in Mexico City, after more than 200,000 fans flocked to watch her. The star, who recently announced she is to wed her fiance Antonio De La Rua in September, achieved her world record after performing to the huge audience in Zocalo Square on Sunday. She told the crowd, "This has been a month of absolute joy. I have fed off you, and I leave with my heart full." The previous record was held by local band Café Tacuba
, who drew an audience of 170,000 fans in 2005.
