Knightley Settles Libel Lawsuit

Keira Knightley has settled a lawsuit against a British tabloid for $6,000 in damages, after the newspaper accused her of lying about having an eating disorder. Earlier this year, the Daily Mail published a photograph of the Pride And Prejudice actress on the beach with an accompanying article commenting on her slender figure. Knightley began legal action against the newspaper in January, claiming the article was libelous because it implied she had been dishonest about suffering from anorexia. The beauty has frequently been forced to deny she has an eating disorder, and recently admitted the accusations have left her "completely devastated." In the suit, Knightley also challenged the positioning of the story - published beside an article about a girl who died from anorexia - because it suggested she was responsible for the teen's death by setting a bad example. Following the ruling at London's High Court yesterday morning, the star said she would donate the money to charity.

Stone Helps Raise $7 Million for AIDS Research

Hollywood star Sharon Stone raised $7 million for AIDS research at a star-studded party at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday night. Stars at the fundraiser for charity amFar, The Foundation For Aids Research, included Matt Damon, Naomi Campbell, producer Harvey Weinstein and Ivana Trump. Items auctioned off included a photograph of Sophie Marceau taken by photographer Mario Testino which raised $300,000, a week aboard a luxury yacht, and a tennis lesson with sportswoman Monica Seles. Stone told the 700 attendees, "You have no idea of the good that you've done, or the difference that you've made." Australian pop star Kylie Minogue performed "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and 1988 hit "Locomotion" at the event. Screen legend Elizabeth Taylor - who organized the event - was unable to attend due to health problems.

Olsen Goes Solo on 'Weeds'

Mary-Kate Olsen is stepping out on her own for her first major acting role without twin sister Ashley Olsen in Showtime cable series Weeds. The Two Of A Kind beauty is set to star alongside Mary-Louise Parker, who plays the lead role of Nancy Botwin, in at least 10 episodes of the hit cable program. The 20-year-old will appear as Tara, a devoted Christian teenager living in the religious community of Majestic, who becomes a love interest for Silas (Botwin's son), played by Hunter Parrish. Olsen tells the Hollywood Reporter, "I'm thrilled to be a part of the show. It's really an honor to be a part of such a talented group of actors and writers." Executive producer Jenji Kohan adds, "Weeds isn't your eight o'clock family fare. It's an adult show with adult subject matter, and we're confident Mary-Kate is right for the role. She came in and read with Hunter and was absolutely charming and real and seemed like a great fit. Audiences have seen only one side of Mary-Kate, but here we'll see her in a whole new light."

'The Departed' Producer Robbed

The Departed producer Graham King is recovering after being assaulted and robbed at the Hotel Du Cap during the Cannes Film Festival. King returned to his private villa on the hotel's estate to find a gang of thieves rifling through his belongings. The intruders then turned to the filmmaker and reportedly sprayed him with CS gas. The robbers made off with King's passport, money and other personal items. A host of celebrities, including Martin Scorsese, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Harvey Weinstein, are staying at the exclusive hotel during the annual movie event.

Besson and Weinstein Battle Over 'Arthur' Movie

Producer Harvey Weinstein has hit back at Luc Besson, branding him a "has-been", after the French director accused him of ruining his fantasy movie Arthur And The Invisibles. The Fifth Element filmmaker said he was disappointed with the U.S. performance of the movie - which he wrote and directed - in an interview with SuicideGirls.com. Besson said, "I've worked in the movie business for 30 years now. (The Weinstein Company) was the worst I have worked with in my entire life, in any country. Why the critics didn't like Arthur was because they changed so much of the film and tried to pretend the film was American. The critics aren't stupid. They watched the film, they vaguely smell American but they can feel the film is forced for an American audience." Weinstein brought in Madonna, Snoop Dogg and Robert De Niro to provide the voiceovers for the U.S. version, replacing the original French actors who appeared in the Gallic version. In response, Weinstein tells the New York Daily News, "He's out of his mind. He's a has-been."

Glover Defends Venezuelan Film Location

Danny Glover has defended the decision to film his movie about a Haitian freedom fighter in Venezuela instead of in the troubled nation itself. Glover has been granted $18 million by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to film Toussaint - the biopic of 18th century Haitian activist Toussaint L'Ouverture - in the South American country, which has caused concern in both nations. Haitian President Rene Preval tells the New York Daily News, "The entire world should be proud of our patrimony. We had the first successful revolt against slavery in this hemisphere. It's our contribution to humanity. If Danny Glover can bring it to the screen, we will be happy. But I hope he will shoot it here." Famous Haitian Wyclef Jean adds, "We want it shot in Haiti. If a portion of the movie is not shot in Haiti. I would definitely feel disappointed." Some Venezuelans are also unhappy that the government is putting such a large sum into the movie. Director Jose Novoa says, "Eighteen million could fund five years of local cinema in Venezuela. And the film's not even about Venezuela." However, Glover insists it would be impossible to shoot the film in Haiti, which has been besieged by instability and violence since the 1980s. He says, "You can't film in Haiti. It doesn't have the infrastructure, unfortunately."

Baldwin Returns To His Agency

Actor Alec Baldwin has returned to his agency CAA after his abrupt departure following the leaked voicemail rant at his daughter last month. Baldwin parted ways with his long-term agents Matt DelPiano and Michael Rosenfeld just a week after his public embarrassment, after a recording of the actor calling his child a "rude, thoughless little pig" appeared on the internet. Baldwin was angry with daughter Ireland - who lives with his ex-wife Kim Basinger - because she had missed a scheduled phone call. In a statement, Baldwin says, "I could not imagine being represented by anyone other than Matt DelPiano."

Lohan's Dad Wants Her To Return To Rehab

Lindsay Lohan's estranged father is urging the actress to return to rehab and dump the people who are dragging her down. Michael Lohan, who became an ordained pastor during a recent jail stint, has begged his daughter to take her sobriety seriously after spotting grainy tabloid photographs of the Mean Girls star allegedly snorting cocaine in a Los Angeles hotel toilet. The 20-year-old star recently spent a stint in rehab after she was publicly criticied for her partying ways, but her father is far from convinced the actress means business. He tells American magazine In Touch Weekly, "I think that Lindsay needs to find a place where God is paramount in her life. If that place is rehab, so be it." Michael, himself a recovering alcoholic, insists his daughter needs to clean up and ditch her so-called friends. He adds, "The people around her are a negative influence."

Prosecutors Seek To Revoke Sizemore's Probation

Prosecutors want to revoke actor Tom Sizemore's probation from a 2006 drug bust following his arrest on suspicion of using crystal methamphetamines earlier this month. The Saving Private Ryan star was taken into custody when cops searched a car he was sitting in outside a hotel in Bakersfield, California on May 8, allegedly finding two bags of the drug and pipes. On Monday in a Bakersfield court, Sizemore pleaded not guilty to one count each of transportation and possession of methamphetamines, and three counts of possession of prescription drugs without the proper prescription. The 45-year-old is due in court for a preliminary hearing on June 18. However, the Los Angeles District Attorney is now seeking to revoke the actor's probation, ordered after he pleaded guilty to drug possession last year, and are recommending Sizemore spend 16 months in prison. A hearing set for June 5 will determine if Sizemore broke the terms of his probation, reports website Tmz.com.

Osmonds Reunite for TV Special

Celebrity siblings The Osmonds are reuniting this summer for a TV special marking 50 years in show business. The seven stars - Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, and Jimmy along with famed TV stars Donny Osmond and Marie Osmond - will appear onstage at The Orleans Hotel Showroom in Las Vegas to mark their half-century milestone. The shows will be taped for The Osmonds 50th Anniversary program, which will air in the U.S. next March. Jimmy, who is producing the special, says, "At first it was just a tribute to my brothers, but it came together as a celebration of everybody. It's out of control. We started so young, you would think 50 years means we're a bunch of old guys. We aren't a bunch of old guys."
