Jolie To Take Year-Long Break

Oscar winner Angelina Jolie is set to take a year-long break from acting. The A Mighty Heart star wants to spend quality time with her family - partner Brad Pitt, and children Maddox, Pax, Zahara and Shiloh - away from the pressures of work. She says, "I'm working this summer. I'm in Prague for a few months, then I take two months off, then I work for two months. And then I take a year off." Despite Jolie's claims, she has recently signed to star in the Clint Eastwood thriller The Changeling, which is slated to be released in 2008, and is attached to the long-awaited adaptation of the Ayn Rand novel Atlas Shrugged, which is currently in development.

Winfrey Stunned by Dad's Tell-All Book

TV host Oprah Winfrey is "shocked" and "disappointed" her father is writing a tell-all book about her. The talk show queen was stunned when the New York Daily News recently reported that 74-year-old Vernon was planning to write a book on his daughter - and she refused to believe it at first. She says, "One of my assistants said, 'The Daily News is calling. They say they heard your father is writing a book about you.' I said, 'That's impossible. I can assure them it's not true.' But then my sister said, 'I think you should call your father.' I called him and it turned out he is writing a book. The worst part of it was him saying, 'I meant to tell you I've been working on it.' I was upset. I won't say 'devastated, ' but I was stunned. The last person in the world to be doing a book about me is Vernon Winfrey." Oprah admits she hasn't seen her father since their trip to Africa a few months ago, but says, "We talk, we talk, we talk. I would have preferred to have known my father was working on this. It would have been a nice gesture, a courtesy."

Simpson & Mayer Back Together?

Jessica Simpson and John Mayer's shock split seems to have been short-lived - the guitarist was spotted leaving the pop star's New York hotel early Monday morning. Representatives confirmed the couple's nine-month romance had ended at the beginning of last week, but Simpson refused to talk about the split during press interviews at the Cannes Film Festival in France. But, upon her return to America on Sunday, it seemed the couple only had reconciliation in mind. A guest who spotted Mayer leaving Simpson's suite at the Soho Grand tells In Touch Weekly magazine, "He was looking really happy. He couldn't stop smiling." But a Simpson pal insists the couple has got some way to go before they start thinking about a long-term future together: "They definitely went on a date last night. She still loves him... but he's scared of commitment. He breaks up with her and then regrets it and then begs her to get back together."

Holmes Threatens Legal Action Over Porn Star

Katie Holmes is threatening legal action after a teenage porn star in the U.S. changed her name to Katee Holmes - and plans to lose her virginity on-screen. The Batman Begins star and wife of Tom Cruise is upset by reports the 18-year-old Texan is now going by an almost identical moniker. A spokesperson for the original Katie Holmes says, "It's a really cheap shot. Obviously Tom would support Katie in anything she decides to do about it." But Shy Love, a representative for fashion student Katee and an adult video veteran, tells PageSix.com the name alternation was done in homage to the 28-year-old wife of Tom Cruise. She says, "Katee is using the name as a tribute to Katie, who has always portrayed an innocence in everything she's done, beginning with Dawson's Creek."

Abdul Speaks Out About Broken Nose

Paula Abdul has spoken out for the first time since breaking her nose in a weekend fall, revealing she also fractured her toe. The clumsy American Idol judge tripped over her pet chihuahua, Tulip, at home on Sunday and is now nursing a series of bumps, bruises and breaks. She tells news show Extra: "I took a nasty fall... trying not to hurt my dog... I tore cartilage... I bruised myself on my arm, that's nothing... my chest, my waist all the way down to my hip. All from my little chubby Tulip. I saw her... I just remember saying, 'Oh my God, I'm going to do a face plant!' It hurt so bad! I screamed like a little baby would scream. I fractured my toe as well." But brave Abdul won't be sitting out of the American Idol finale episodes. Fellow judge Simon Cowell says, "We'll have a huge bowl of ice just to make sure the swelling isn't too bad." The British music mogul admits he has yet to speak to Abdul about her mishap - because she literally can't get to the phone. He adds, "Apparently, she can't get close to the phone because of what's on her nose. That's what I've heard."

Sizemore Pleads Not Guilty to Drug Charges

Troubled actor Tom Sizemore has pleaded not guilty to five charges stemming from his arrest on suspicion of using crystal methamphetamine earlier this month. The Saving Private Ryan star was taken into custody when cops searched a car he was sitting in outside a hotel in Bakersfield, California on May 8, allegedly finding two bags of the drug and pipes. At a court hearing in Bakersfield, California yesterday, Sizemore denied one count each of transportation and possession of methamphetamines, and three counts of possession of prescription drugs without the proper prescription. The 45-year-old is next in court for a preliminary hearing on 18 June. In October 2004, Sizemore was convicted of methamphetamine possession. The following year, his probation was revoked after he admitted faking a drug test. The actor tested positive for drug use in January 2006 - he was given three years probation and ordered to submit to weekly drug tests. In 2003, he was found guilty of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend, former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss.

Streisand's Ticket Prices Attacked in Italy

Superstar Barbra Streisand has come under fire in Italy from consumer groups complaining her show tickets are too expensive. The Adusbef and Codacons groups are appealing for her Rome performance next month to be canceled, despite the fact it will be the singer's first ever show in the country. In a statement released on Monday, the groups moaned ticket prices, which range from $200 to more than $1,200 are "absurd and shameful." They added the city's 24,000-seat Stadio Flaminio venue "is public property and cannot be used for immoral deals that are shameful to a civilized country." The Rome date of June 15 marks the start of Streisand's European tour. The 65-year-old recently insisted ticket prices for her shows were justified because part of the proceeds will go to her charity, the Barbra Streisand Foundation.

Sheryl Shows Off Baby Wyatt

Sheryl Crow is wasting no time showing off her new bundle of joy - the rocker appears cradling adopted son Wyatt on the cover of this week's OK! Weekly magazine in America. The singer/songwriter beams in the posed cover shot as a sleepy Wyatt lies in her arms. Crow announced the news of her adoption on her website earlier this month, cooing, "I am so excited to share with you guys that I've adopted a little boy... he was born two weeks ago." In an interview accompanying the photos, Crow insists she won't be rushing out too find her baby boy a daddy anytime soon. The rocker, who broke off her engagement to cyclist Lance Armstrong last year says, "I'm having a great time dating... There is somebody but I'm not walking down the aisle."

Scorsese Launches Cinema Foundation

Director Martin Scorsese is hoping to preserve neglected films for posterity with the launch of his World Cinema Foundation on Tuesday. The legendary Oscar-winning moviemaker told reporters at the Cannes Film Festival in France the project was inspired by a similar venture in America, set up in collaboration with George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood. Scorsese said, "This goes back to the founding of the film foundation in America. That was started in 1990 and for the past 16 years that actually has changed and things have gotten different there in terms of restoration of films and preservation of archives." The launch of Scorsese's non-profit foundation is being marked at this year's festival with screenings of films from Morocco, Brazil and Romania dating as far back as 1931.
