Richards and Sambora Split

Actress Denise Richards and rocker Richie Sambora have split after a year-long romance. The Wild Things beauty, 36, and Bon Jovi guitarist, 47, started dating in April 2006, just months after filing for divorce from their respective spouses, Charlie Sheen and Heather Locklear. At the time, the romance caused huge controversy because Richards had been close friends with Locklear. The former Bond girl insisted her friendship with the Melrose Place actress had ended before she starting dating Sambora. However, Richards' representative confirmed to magazine In Touch yesterday that the couple had split some time ago. The rep says, "Denise and Richie broke up two months ago." Despite their split, Richards attended the funeral of Sambora's father Adam, who died on April 20, following a long battle with lung cancer. Sambora's divorce from Locklear was finalized last month.
Gere & Shetty Cleared Over Embrace

Actor Richard Gere and Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty will not face legal action over their public kiss at a charity event last month, an Indian Supreme Court has ruled. Shetty was ordered to appear before a judge in Rajasthan yesterday morning after a warrant was issued for her arrest following the incident on April 26. Gere and Shetty were speaking at a HIV/AIDS awareness event in New Delhi, when the Chicago actor swept the beauty into his arms and kissed her several times. Public displays of affection are taboo in India and arrest warrants were issued for both Gere and Shetty after a citizen filed a complaint, accusing the couple of committing an "obscene act." Shetty petitioned the Supreme Court to suspend legal proceedings and also asked for all cases against her to be transferred to her home city of Mumbai, at a hearing on Monday. The court granted the suspension which stops police and other courts from taking action against her and the Hollywood actor earlier yesterday. Her lawyer Anand Grover says a separate petition would be filed to prevent police from stopping her from traveling abroad, adding, "It is an unusual case. No case is made out... the allegation is that she did not resist."
Cussler Ordered To Pay $5 Million Over 'Sahara' Debacle

Author Clive Cussler has been ordered to pay $5 million to the production company responsible for the movie adaptation of his book Sahara. The novelist mounted a legal case in 2004 against production company Crusader Entertainment, claiming the company had breached its contract, which stated Cussler was allowed "absolute approval" over the film's script up until filming began. However, Crusader later countersued Cussler, accusing him of "duping" them into adapting his book, and ambushing the movie by publicly criticizing the project on its 2005 release. A Los Angeles jury yesterday found Cussler had breached an "implied covenant" of good faith, and falsified his book sales in any dealings with Crusader - but recommended Crusader pay Cussler $8 million he alleged he was owed for a second novel which never made it to the big screen. Sahara, the Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz-starring movie made $68 million at the box office, and it was claimed in court the film's losses were in excess of $80 million. During the 14-week long case, lawyers for Crusader argued the company would not have paid the author $10 million to adapt his novel into a movie if it had been aware Cussler had sold only 40 million books, as he had initially told executives his sales figures were closer to 100 million. Speaking after the decision, Cussler said, "I'm relieved that it's over, and now we can go home." Although Cussler was found to be in breach of his contract with Crusader, Bert Fields, Cussler's attorney, says, "I think that Cussler is the winner. If the judge upholds what the jury has done, he gets a net gain of $3 million." However, Marvin Putnam, Crusader's attorney, says, "It's a massive vindication not only for Crusader and all the people who made the film, but also for the industry at large." The final amount of compensation will be decided by Superior Court Judge John P. Shook later this year.
Faustino Arrested for Pot Possession

Former Married... With Children star David Faustino has been arrested in Florida on suspicion of drug possession and disorderly intoxication. The 33-year-old actor, who played Bundy son Bud on the 1990s comedy, was arrested in New Smyrna Beach in the early hours of Saturday morning after police found him arguing in the street with his ex-wife Andrea. Police tell the Orlando Sentinel newspaper that the couple admitted they have been drinking and upon searching Faustino, they allegedly found a gram of marijuana in his pocket. Faustino was released from Volusia County Branch Jail later on Saturday.
Winslet Donates Libel Proceeds to Charity

Actress Kate Winslet has donated the $6,000 she was awarded in a magazine libel case earlier this year to an eating disorder charity. The Little Children star, 31, won the lawsuit against Britain's Grazia magazine at London's High Court in March, after the publication wrongly claimed she had visited a diet doctor - suggesting Winslet was a hypocrite for seeking professional help about her weight when she has openly criticized the 'size zero' culture. The magazine was forced to publish an apology, stating the actress had visited the doctor with a neck problem. Winslet has once again shown her disdain at Hollywood's obsession with extreme dieting by dividing her proceeds between three eating disorder charities, one of which is the Norfolk, England-based Beat. Mary George of Beat says, "Kate said at the time that she would donate her winnings to an eating disorder charity and that is what she has done. I think she was inundated by charities asking for help. We were informed last week the money would be split between three eating disorder charities and we were thrilled to be one of them. This is a very thoughtful way of highlighting the issue."
Jolie Bonded With Pearl Over Playdates
Angelina Jolie and the woman she plays in her hard-hitting new movie A Mighty Heart became fast friends after arranging a playdate with their kids. The actress plays murdered journalist Daniel Pearl's wife Mariane in the film and only landed the deal after befriending the grieving widow. Pearl admits she knew she and Jolie were kindred spirits and got in touch to arrange a mothers' meeting. In a new Glamour magazine interview, conducted with the two friends, Jolie admits she was thrilled and a little intimidated about her first meeting with Pearl. She says, "I remember being amazed by your courage and your grace - but I also sensed, she's an interesting woman, I wonder what she's really like. When I got the note, I was thrilled to hear that you wanted to have a playdate. Later I realized that Mariane and I are the two worst people to plan a playdate in the history of playdates... because she hates the phone as much as I do. So it almost didn't happen." But Jolie admits she's glad the couple got the chance to meet; she found Pearl "an intelligent European woman." The pair's children have now also become great friends - Jolie's adopted son Maddox and Pearl's son Adam have bonded over Disney cartoon The Jungle Book and the actress' adopted daughter Zahara is "madly in love with Adam."
Diaz Bares a Breast on Ellen's Show
The Holiday star Cameron Diaz was left a little red faced on TV yesterday when her loose-fitting top slipped down and left her right breast exposed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Quick-thinking cameramen shot Diaz from the side until show host Ellen DeGeneres alerted her guest to the wardrobe malfunction. The actress, dressed in a beige suit, laughed off the gaffe after DeGeneres said, "They're asking you to pull up your shirt." Diaz said, "Excuse moi. Thank you. I went through so many foolproofs on this too - 'It ain't gonna fall out, I promise.' I hate double-stick tape; you can always see double-stick tape." Comedienne DeGeneres responded, "Well, we saw something else."
Myers Amazed To Discover School Pal Furnish Dating Elton

Comedian Mike Myers was flabbergasted when he attended a post-Oscars party hosted by Sir Elton John, and discovered the singer's boyfriend was his childhood friend David Furnish. Myers, who grew up with Furnish in Canada, was enjoying himself at John's star-studded Hollywood bash a few years ago, when he spotted a man who he thought looked just like Furnish. Myers says, "I went to Elton John's charity Oscar party and it was like going to a wax museum. I couldn't believe all the famous people who were there. 'There's Harrison Ford, there's Sean Connery' Then Elton John said, 'Hello. There's somebody I want you to meet.' And he grabbed my hand and.. (said), 'You're going to be very surprised.' And then I see this guy, and this guy looks exactly like my friend from Canada, this friend of mine named Dave Furnish. Then all of a sudden it was like, 'I want you to meet my boyfriend David.' He was in my high school. I couldn't believe it, it was so weird. So Dave goes, 'I guess the whole time in high school you didn't know I was gay.' I said, 'I had no idea.' He said, 'So you're a movie star and I'm Elton's wife.'"
Manson Pays Wood Highest Video Salary in History
Marilyn Manson made sure his girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood became the highest paid actress in music video history for her sex scenes with him in new promo "Heart-Shaped Glasses." Manson, who split from his wife Dita Von Teese last December, reportedly as a result of his relationship with Wood, was determined the 19-year-old should be properly compensated for her raunchy appearance. The first two minutes of the "Heart-Shaped Glasses" video feature Manson and Wood writhing around naked, having passionate sex - with many believing the couple actually made love for the cameras. Manson tells MTV News, "I did insist that Evan be paid the most that any actress has ever been paid in music-video history to be in this, even though she wouldn't have asked for it. There's no one else that could've been in it, because it was inspired by her."
Eve: "DUI Arrest Was One of Those Things"

Rapper/actress Eve has spoken out about her recent drunk-driving arrest, dismissing the incident as "one of those things." The 28-year-old was formally charged with driving under the influence (DUI) earlier this month, after crashing her gold Maserati. She was arrested on the scene and later released from custody after posting $30,000 bail. But the star, real name Eve Jeffers, insists incidents like this are always magnified by the media, who prefer to focus on the "negative" aspects of her life instead of all her achievements. She tells MTV, "Things happen and this is the nature of the business I'm in. I just feel blessed and happy that all the good things completely outweigh anything negative in my life." Eve is due in court on May 17 to face the DUI charge and two other related offenses.
