Campbell Begins Community Service

Former supermodel Naomi Campbell began mopping floors at New York's Sanitation Department earlier yesterday. The British beauty will perform cleaning duties for five days, after being ordered by a Manhattan judge earlier this year to undertake community service as punishment for throwing a mobile phone at maid Ana Scolavino. Campbell has been allowed to perform her cleaning duties in private, in a bid to avoid the press furor which surrounded pop star Boy George's community service stint in the city last year. Despite being warned by sanitation boss Albert Durrell "not to wear heels" to work, Campbell arrived at the Lower East Side building at 8am in a pair of stiletto boots, although she was also carrying a pair of work shoes.

Studio Plays Down Watson Quitting Reports

Movie studio Warner Bros. has played down reports Harry Potter star Emma Watson is quitting the film franchise, insisting they are "extremely confident" she will continue to play Hermione Granger. British newspaper News Of The World quoted the 16-year-old's Potter co-star Rupert Grint as saying, "Emma doesn't want to do it any more. She's tired of being known as 'that girl from Harry Potter'." However, a spokesperson for producers Warner Bros says, "We're extremely confident that Emma will be back for films six and seven." Filming for the sixth movie, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, is scheduled to begin later this year.

Thurman Splits from Boyfriend

Uma Thurman and her hotelier boyfriend Andre Balazs have ended their three-year romance, less than a week after tabloid reports in the US had the couple planning a summer wedding. The couple began dating in 2003, but have split up twice. Thurman and her aides aren't commenting on the latest split, but the actress confirmed the pair had split last year when she turned up at the Oscars without him. She said then, "Unfortunately, it is true... but we remain close friends." The couple reconciled last year, and recent reports suggested Thurman's ex-husband, Ethan Hawke, had been overheard telling friends the actress was planning a summer wedding in the Caribbean.

Jolie Awaiting Visa To Finalize Adoption

Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie arrived in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi on Monday, to obtain a visa for newly adopted son Pax Thien so she can take him home to the US. The actress arrived in the country last Wednesday with her Cambodian son Maddox to finish the adoption process for three-year-old Pax. But the adoption will only become final once US officials in Hanoi approve paperwork to allow him to travel to America. Jolie and partner Brad Pitt are now full-time parents to four children under the age of five: Maddox, five; Pax Thien, three; Ethiopian Zahara Marley, two; and their sole biological child Shiloh Nouvel, 10 months.

Spector Shows Up for Jury Selection With New Hairdo

Music mogul Phil Spector stunned legal analysts in Los Angeles yesterday morning by sporting a new look as he turned up for the first day of jury selection in his upcoming murder trial. The record producer ditched the zany wig he wore for a court date last year and instead sported a long Beatles-type hairstyle and long black coat. The only flamboyant thing about his attire was a large-collar yellow shirt he wore. More than 70 potential jurors were interviewed in court in Los Angeles this morning. Spector's trial is likely to get underway at the end of next month. He faces charges he murdered actress Lana Clarkson, whose body was found at Spector's Alhambra, California mansion in 2004.

Gervais Plans To Axe 'Extras'

Comedian Ricky Gervais will make a final Christmas special episode of TV hit Extras before axing the show, according to reports. The Emmy-winning creator of The Office is determined not to risk the failure of a poor third series, and would rather move onto new projects. After the success of The Office, Extras attracted a host of A-list celebrities desperate for cameo roles including David Bowie, Chris Martin and Ben Stiller. The insider tells British newspaper The Sun, "There had been reports that Ricky was going to go ahead with a third series of Extras. But he is firmly of the opinion that third series are rarely a success and has decided to quit while he's ahead. When he said goodbye to The Office with a two-part Christmas special, it was a smash hit both in the ratings and critically, so he's decided to do that again. He's loved making the series and there are tons more A-list stars who want to appear. But Ricky has lots of other things he wants to do and feels this is the right timing."

Laurie Denies Marriage Troubles

British actor Hugh Laurie has dismissed reports his 18-year marriage to Jo Green is in trouble - although he admits it is "hard" spending so much time away from his family. The House star - who confessed to punching doors to alleviate his stress earlier this month - has denied his relationship with wife Jo is on the rocks, despite recent media reports suggesting his marriage was under pressure following his move to Los Angeles for the hit TV medical drama. Green still lives in the UK with their three children Charlie, 17, Bill, 15, and 13-year-old Rebecca. Laurie's spokeswoman, Ina Treciokas says, "His family is in London. It's hard. The children do come to LA, but they have school and his wife comes over as often as she can. But he does get home in the summer."

DiCaprio Had Peace Talks With Peres

Leonardo DiCaprio's aides have confirmed the movie star held secret talks with Israel's Vice Premier Shimon Peres during his chaotic trip to his girlfriend Bar Rafaeli's homeland last week. Peres, Israel's former leader, requested a meeting with the Titanic star after learning of his visit, and asked the actor and activist to use his star power to help promote conservation and peace in the Middle East. According to sources, DiCaprio was thrilled to meet the Israeli dignitary and promised to help on both issues. DiCaprio's representatives have confirmed the meeting took place, which was a high point of an otherwise troubled trip for the actor. Two of his bodyguards face charges after fighting with photographers during DiCaprio's visit to a holy site, and the actor was forced to cut short his trip on Thursday after learning his aunt had died. He flew to Germany for the funeral.

Bogdanovich Sued Over Assistant

Actor/director Peter Bogdanovich is being sued by a man who claims the filmmaker demanded he be paid for employing his son. Iaroslav Jikov filed a lawsuit in New York's District Court last Tuesday, claiming The Last Picture Show director and his business manager William Peiffer agreed to hire his son Matt Jikov on the condition they receive $100,000. Iaroslav says he met Bogdanovich and Peiffer twice in 2005 to discuss the opportunity to break his son in the film industry, and paid them the money on February 7, 2005. Iaroslav said he demanded the money back in January 2006, but the pair refused.

Alba Taught To Act by Macy and Huffman

Movie beauty Jessica Alba was taught to act by husband-and-wife Hollywood stars William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman. Before finding fame, the Sin City star enrolled on an intensive six-week long course at the Atlantic Theater Company that Macy founded with writer David Mamet. And Alba has mixed memories of the grueling experience. She tells PageSix, "Felicity was very hard on me. She's a tough cookie, that one. I just remember her making me cry because I didn't prepare a scene right, or I didn't talk loud enough."
