Jolie Had No Special Treatment, Agency Insists

Angelina Jolie was not given preferential treatment for her adoption of three-year-old Vietnamese boy Pax Thien, the agency who handled it has vowed. Jolie and partner Brad Pitt began proceedings in Vietnam last summer, US-based agency Adoptions From The Heart has revealed. The average adoption in Vietnam takes sixth months or longer to go through. A statement from the agency's Vietnam coordinator Heidi Gonzalez reads: "Throughout Ms. Jolie's adoption process, she received no preferential treatment from the Vietnamese government or Adoptions From The Heart." Gonzalez also hit out at claims by Vietnam's senior adoption official Vu Doc Long that the adoption was fast-tracked because of Jolie's celebrity status. She says, "Contrary to earlier reports, her application was not fast-tracked." And Gonzalez insists Jolie has made no financial commitment to the Ho Chi Minh orphanage Pax was adopted from: "She has neither made, nor promised to make any financial contributions." Jolie's adoption of Pax will become final once US officials in Hanoi approve paperwork to allow him to travel to America.

'Cool Hand Luke' Director Stuart Rosenberg Dies

Stuart Rosenberg, the director of the acclaimed 1967 Paul Newman prison drama Cool Hand Luke and the very successful 1979 thriller The Amityville Horror, died Thursday after suffering a heart attack at his home in Beverly Hills; he was 79. A prolific TV director who won an Emmy award in 1963 for an episode of The Defenders, Rosenberg made his feature film debut with Cool Hand Luke, which received an Oscar nomination for star Paul Newman and a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for George Kennedy; Rosenberg himself received a Directors Guild of America nomination, but lost to Mike Nichols for The Graduate. His films throughout the 60s and 70s included The April Fools (with Jack Lemmon and Catherine Deneuve), The Drowning Pool (also starring Newman), Voyage of the Damned (with Faye Dunaway and Oscar nominee Lee Grant), and The Amityville Horror, a surprise box office hit based on the notorious book about a supposedly haunted house on Long Island. In the 80s, Rosenberg directed another prison drama, the acclaimed Brubaker, starring Robert Redford (Rosenberg replaced initial director Bob Rafelson), and the adaptation of the novel The Pope of Greenwich Village, which scored an Oscar nomination for supporting actress Geraldine Page. His last film was 1991's My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys, starring Scott Glenn and Ben Johnson. Rosenberg is survived by his wife, Margot, and his son, first assistant director Benjamin Rosenberg. --Mark Englehart, IMDb staff

Winfrey Denies School Is Too Strict

Oprah Winfrey has denied allegations her newly-founded school in South Africa is too strict - insisting it provides students with a "safe" and "structured" environment to learn in. The media mogul set up the $40 million Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa in January in the small town of Henley-on-Klip, south of Johannesburg, with the aim to give 152 girls from deprived backgrounds a high quality education. But parents have recently complained of the rigid rules and regulations which prevent the girls from using mobile phones and sending emails during the week. They have also been banned from bringing food in for the girls and can only visit if they are approved by staff at least two weeks in advance, according to Tmz.com. The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation has dismissed these allegations, stating that while parents are discouraged from buying the students junk food, they are not prohibited. A statement released by the Foundation says, "Our goal is to protect the health, welfare and well-being of the students at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy. As with other boarding schools, we provide a structured, safe and nurturing environment in which the girls can learn and develop."

Sinbad Dismisses Death Reports

American comedian Sinbad has laughed off reports he died of a heart attack last Saturday, after website Wikipedia.org stated he had passed away. Wikipedia describes itself as 'the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit', and is used by internet surfers across the world. The entry for funnyman Sinbad was incorrectly edited last weekend by an unknown user. The Jingle All The Way actor - born David Adkins - realized something was wrong when he started getting hundreds of phone calls, emails and text messages from people concerned about the star. And despite the mix-up, the 50-year-old actor accepts the mistake could easily be made in the future. He says, "(On) Saturday I rose from the dead and then died again. It's gonna be more commonplace as the internet opens up more and more. It's not that strange."

Lohan Jets To New York To Spend Time with Law

Lindsay Lohan is so smitten with British movie hunk Jude Law she flew from Los Angeles to New York just to spend time in the same hotel as the Alfie star. The Mean Girls actress boarded a late night flight from Los Angeles on March 8 and checked into a suite at the swanky 60 Thompson hotel, where Law has been staying while shooting his new movie My Blueberry Nights. American publication Life & Style reports the couple didn't let the 14-year age difference between them get in the way of friendship, reportedly meeting up for a late-night rendezvous on two successive nights - after partying at hip New York club The Box. It is not known if the couple plans to take their friendship any further and embark on a complicated romance - Lohan's ex Jamie Burke is currently dating Law's former girlfriend Sienna Miller. A pal tells the publication, "(Jude and Lindsay) are still very much in touch, talking and e-mailing. It probably won't turn into anything serious, but it's definitely not over."

Gyllenhaal To Play Captain Marvel?

Executives at Hollywood film studio New Line are desperately trying to sign Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal as Captain Marvel in Shazam! The studio is looking to bid on a big franchise along the lines of Batman and Superman and think the movie, which is based on the DC comic, is the perfect project. A source tells the New York Daily News, "They're ready to spend up to $200 million to get it started." Sources say director Peter Segal and his fellow producers want to sign the star before Spider-Man director Sam Raimi can get to him. Raimi is reportedly on the lookout for a new Spider-Man after current star Tobey Maguire recently said he is ready to move on and let someone else play the role.

Pay Boost for 'Grey's Anatomy' Stars

The cast of hit TV medical drama Grey's Anatomy has been given a huge pay boost. The show's star, bride-to-be Ellen Pompeo, has closed a new deal that will earn her almost $200,000-per-episode, according to trade paper The Hollywood Reporter, while castmates Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. have secured pay hikes to $125,000. Producers are close to securing similar deals with castmembers Justin Chambers and T.R. Knight. The pay increases come a week after details of a salary dispute between ABC bosses and Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl were leaked to the press. Heigl, Sandra Oh, Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey are among those still negotiating new deals.

Almodovar & Sheen Protest For Peace

Celebrated Spanish movie maker Pedro Almodovar and actor Martin Sheen were among the celebrities taking part in peace rallies around the world on Saturday. Volver director Almodovar joined tens of thousands of people to protest the war in Iraq in Madrid, Spain, while Sheen took a break from his studies in Ireland to march in Los Angeles. Almodovar's fellow protestors also called for the closure of the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Activists flooded the streets of the Spanish capital, chanting "No to War." Almodovar told reporters he was protesting "the barbarities they have been committing in Iraq for the past four years", adding, "We're here for peace and for the closure of Guantanamo because it is a disgrace for civilization." Sheen gave up his St. Patrick's Day celebrations in Dublin to march in Hollywood - to mark the anniversary of the outbreak of the Iraq War. Elsewhere, there were also major peace demonstrations in Washington, D.C., Turkey and Athens, Greece.

Britney Fans Offer Support On Website

Fans of Britney Spears have poured their hearts out on the troubled pop star's website in a series of touching posts after the singer's family asked them to offer up messages of support. Spears is said to be "deeply touched" by the response of devotees from all around the world who have taken the time to pen supportive notes to her. The singer has been unable to access the messages of support because rules at Malibu, California rehab center Promises forbid her from using the internet - but many have been passed on to her by friends and relatives. The messages posted on BritneySpears.com come from far-flung places like New Zealand, England and Spain. One British fan, Laura, writes, "I have been thinking about you and praying for you. You are the best female artist ever, all your fans are missing you and want the best for you. Relax and don't rush yourself, we are here for as long as it takes for you to get better." Spears entered the Promises rehab facility in an effort to control a substance abuse problem on February 20.

Shields Stuck In Her Trailer

Actress Brooke Shields was left red-faced on the set of her new TV sitcom Lipstick Jungle on Monday when she found herself trapped in her own trailer. Sources reveal Shields and her two daughters were somehow locked in the trailer and had to be rescued by a crew member, who allegedly clambered into the mobile home from home through a window and then helped the actress and her kids crawl out through the same window. Unfortunately for the actress, photographers caught her as she was trying to escape out of the small opening. A source says, "Crew members tried in vain to pry open the front door of the trailer, but it was stuck."

He and co-stars of movie musical Hairspray, in which Travolta cross-dresses as Edna Turnblad, received a five minute standing ovation at the ShoWest Convention in Las Vegas on Wednesday after guests were shown footage from the film. Travolta joked, "We may be onto something. I think the fat make-up worked."
