She checked herself into Crossroads Center, a treatment facility founded by musician Eric Clapton
last Wednesday, only to check out the following day. Meanwhile, according to Tmz, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has received numerous phone calls to their hotline from people concerned about the welfare of Spears' children in light of her recent bizarre behavior. 'Bachelorette' Stars Expecting
star Trista Rehn
and her husband Ryan Sutter
are expecting their first child together. The couple met while taping the reality TV show The Bachelorette
in 2002 and married in a televised special on ABC in 2003. Trista tells American publication People, "We are so happy after two years of trying." Radcliffe's Co-Star Defends Nude Scene
British actress Joanna Christie
has defended Equus
co-star Daniel Radcliffe
for appearing nude on the London stage, insisting the play is about much more than him stripping off. The Harry Potter star, 17, defended his decision to appear naked in a revival of Peter Shaffer
's 1973 play earlier this month, after the promotional pictures for the show caused controversy among parents of young fans of the boy wizard. But 24-year-old Christie is amazed by the amount of press attention Radcliffe has attracted, and urges critics to look beyond the raunchy scenes to see the meaning of the play itself. She says, "I can't believe there are people saying he's a bad role model for children. He's an actor playing a part, and in the story he happens to have a relationship with a girl. The play is on school syllabuses. It's an amazingly interesting, complex story. It's not about nudity or sex. It's about a lot of very complex issues. When we do (the nude scene) in the context of the play it's really beautiful and natural. I expected some publicity because of Daniel but not stories and photos everywhere."
Moore Wins Court Battle
Filmmaker Michael Moore
won the latest round of his court battle with the brother of Terry Nichols, the Oklahoma City bombing conspirator, on Tuesday. Nichols is appealing against a 2005 decision to throw out his lawsuit accusing Moore of libel and defaming him in 2002 documentary Bowling For Columbine
. He also claims the film invaded his privacy and inflicted him with emotional distress. But a three-judge panel at the 6th US Circuit Court Of Appeals in Ohio has backed the decision made by a Michigan-based federal judge two years ago. At that time, Judge Paul D. Borman ruled that Moore's statements about Nichols were "factual and substantially true." Nichols - who is serving two life sentences for his role in the 1995 bombing that killed 168 people - has to decide whether to take his case to the US Supreme Court.
Second Lawsuit Filed Against Brandy in Deadly Crash
A second wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against singer Brandy
relating to a December freeway crash in Los Angeles. The latest lawsuit was filed on behalf of the two sons of the woman who was killed in the crash after Brandy's sports utility vehicle struck the back of her car. Awatef Aboudihaj, 38, was killed and her two sons, Mrwan Mohamed, 14, and Kareem Mohamed, 10, were injured in the December 30 accident. The claim alleges that unspecified injuries to the children will likely cause some permanent disability. Damages will be determined at a trial. On January 30, a $50 million lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on behalf of her parents, Aboudihaj Ahmed and Labridi Zohra, who reside in Morocco. The Los Angeles City Attorney's office is still deciding whether or not to charge the singer, real name Brandy Norwood
, with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. According to Jonathan Diamond, a spokesman for the City Attorney's office, California Highway Patrol investigators recommended she be charged after completing their investigation. If convicted, the 28-year-old faces up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine.
Aguilera Dismisses Pregnancy Reports
Pop superstar Christina Aguilera
has dismissed reports she is expecting her first child with husband Jordan Bratman. An employee of Beverly Hills, California children's store Bellini claimed the singer discussed her pregnancy while shopping for baby clothes with Bratman. The sales assistant was reported to have said: "(Aguilera) came in with her husband, and he sat in one of the big chairs and let her do her shopping. They said they don't know what they're having. They seemed really excited. She was talking to (another customer) and she said she took a home pregnancy test and that it was positive. She kept saying they'd have to come back when they knew the sex of the baby." However, a spokeswoman for 26-year-old Aguilera denies the shopping trip ever took place: "She said it is not true and she wasn't in Bellini."
Mills Confirms 'Dancing With the Stars' Appearance
Sir Paul McCartney
's estranged wife Heather Mills
has confirmed she will appear on TV show Dancing With The Stars
- despite denying any involvement with the show earlier this month. Mills will take to the ice alongside singer Billy Ray Cyrus
and former N'Sync star Joey Fatone
, and will be the first contestant to dance with an artificial limb. Her spokesperson hopes the experience will help distract Mills from her split from the former Beatle in May last year. Phil Hall, Mills' spokesperson, says, "It's something that might take her mind off some of the difficulties she's been having. She's doing it because she loves dancing, always has, enjoys a challenge and sees this as a combination of both." Hall adds Mills' participation is "nothing to do with the money" adding, "It's just to do with he challenge and fun of it." The show begins on March 19 in the US.
