Actor Santos Dies in Plane Crash

Former child star Pablo Santos has been killed in a plane crash in central Mexico. The teenager was on his way to Acapulco with friends when their private aircraft crashed during an emergency landing in Toluca, near Mexico City on Friday. Another passenger was also killed while everyone else on board was hospitalized. Survivor Diego Marcos has told local newspaper El Norte that he fears the plane crashed because it was overloaded. He explains the Piper Malibu craft was only supposed to carry six people, but he and his friends persuaded the pilot to take on an extra passenger. Santos, 19, appeared on TV shows Law & Order and American Family and he played the son of a Mexican family in Greetings From Tucson.
Willie Nelson Busted for Pot Possession

Country star Willie Nelson has been cited for possession of marijuana and narcotic mushrooms after a Louisiana cop smelled trouble during a traffic stop. The Honeysuckle Rose singer's tour bus was pulled over early yesterday morning and the cop insisted he search the vehicle after the whiff of marijuana hit him as he stepped onboard. State troopers claim they found over a pound of marijuana and less than a pound of magic mushrooms. Nelson and four others were issued misdemeanor citations for drug possession. Each was released after being issued a citation.
Anthony-Lopez Film Scores Big As Toronto Festival Closes

Birthday boy Marc Anthony and his wife Jennifer Lopez are celebrating after their Hector Lavoe biopic became the subject of the biggest deal at this year's Toronto Film Festival in Canada late on Friday. Anthony, who turned 38 on Saturday, plays the late salsa superstar in the acclaimed new movie El Cantante, which premiered in Toronto last week. Lopez plays Lavoe's wife Puchi in the film, which was bought for almost $5 million by executives at Picturehouse, who now plan to release the film in July 2007. Picturehouse spokesman Bob Berney says, "The Latino community is really an under served market, but because of the music and the cast, we really think it can cross over."
Mickey Hargitay Dead at 80
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay's bodybuilder father Mickey Hargitay has died after a lengthy illness. He was 80. The Hungarian strongman, who was married to Jayne Mansfield, died last Thursday. Hargitay was in hospital being treated for a mystery illness when his daughter gave birth to her first child in June. The actress had to dash from a scheduled appearance on America's The Tonight Show earlier this summer to be by her father's bedside, and she broke down in tears as she paid tribute to him when she won her first Emmy Award in August. She told reporters the best thing about winning an Emmy was "that my dad was gonna be really happy." Born Miklos Hargitay in 1926, the bodybuilder fled his native Hungary in 1947 to escape the compulsory Soviet military draft. Hargitay won the Mr. Universe bodybuilding title in 1955 and made his mark as a movie star in The Loves Of Hercules after appearing in Mae West's New York revue. Before gaining fame, he worked as a carpenter and plumber, and famously remodeled the Pink Palace - the Hollywood home he shared with Mariska's mother Mansfield.
LeBlanc Goes It Alone in Divorce Court
Joey star Matt LeBlanc is set to show off his legal skills when he hits the divorce court with his estranged wife Melissa - he's planning to represent himself. In divorce papers obtained by website Tmz.com, the actor makes it clear he feels he can win the battle without a high-powered attorney. Sources claim LeBlanc is confident the divorce trial will be a speedy and simple affair because he and his ex signed a prenuptial agreement and have already agreed on joint custody for their two-year-old daughter. That hasn't stopped the soon-to-be former Mrs. LeBlanc hiring a lawyer - she will be represented in court. Tmz.com suggests LeBlanc feels confident about his divorce court skills after taking advice from top celebrity lawyer Neal Hersh this summer.
Ferrell Stuns Mullally In His Underwear

Funnyman Will Ferrell thrilled former Will & Grace star Megan Mullally when she launched her talk show career in America yesterday - by showing up in just his underwear. The Old School star was Mullally's first guest on her new show and he decided to make quite an entrance in a pair of blue Y-fronts and knee-length sports socks. After presenting Mullally with a bouquet of flowers and handing a rose to the host's stunned mother, who was sitting in the audience, Ferrell told the actress, "There's an old saying: 'When you're nervous you should imagine people in their underwear.' I just wanted to cut to the chase." Ferrell later donned a tuxedo to sing a quirky version of "Wind Beneath My Wings" to welcome his pal to daytime television. Jenny McCarthy, Mullally's second guest on her first show, gave the star three live sheep as a gift, explaining, "It's an old wives tale that if you meet sheep it's good luck on your journey. I didn't know that but as soon as I heard that I said, 'Give me three sheep.'"
Coppola Thrilled by Versailles Freedom

Movie-maker Sofia Coppola was thrilled to be given the keys to the Palace of Versailles in France for the filming of Marie Antoinette, because it meant she could shoot eerie scenes in the very rooms where they took place 220 years ago. Certain restrictions were placed on the director and her crew, but she was allowed to film wherever she wanted, allowing her to shoot Marie Antoinette's wedding scenes in the chapel where the French queen wed Louis XVI. Coppola says, "It was thrilling to shoot in the place where many of these events actually took place and they (authorities) gave us remarkable freedom. They actually let us park our trucks right in front of the palace and keep our camera equipment in Marie Antoinette's bedroom. We were able to shoot Marie Antoinette's wedding in the real cathedral where she was married and, at the end of the film, we were able to shoot the scene where she goes onto a balcony with the mob below where it actually happened. To be able to recreate these remarkable moments in the real places where they happened was a very spooky and unique experience." But the restrictions imposed on the crew at Versailles did pose some problems. Production designer KK Barrett explains, "In some rooms, we couldn't open the blinds because just exposure to sun could destroy the color in the fabric and/or cause it to start to disintegrate. We also couldn't use any of the furniture in Versailles, which we immediately respected, but it meant we had the task of finding and bringing in our own furniture that would be competitive with the scale of what was already on the walls, which was pretty daunting."
Perry Embarrassed by Awful First Sitcom
Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip star Matthew Perry still can't believe he gets regular acting work after once playing a futuristic baggage handler at Los Angeles' LAX airport in doomed show LAX 2194. The actor cringes whenever he thinks back to what he hoped would be his big break and now he's just grateful the show didn't take off and more people saw him. He says, "It starred me and I was wearing a kind of futuristic shirt and I was surrounded by aliens... and all the aliens were played by midgets, wearing wigs and stuff and my job was to sort out the aliens' luggage. It was a sitcom... and in it I had a relative that was frozen for 200 years and thawed out and I had to teach him the ways of the future." The awful role almost cost Perry the chance to play Chandler Bing on Friends because he was contracted to play a futuristic baggage handler while the new show was being cast. He adds, "I was off the market for Friends... and then somebody finally saw the baggage handler show and they said, 'Y'know he's not gonna be off the market for too long.'"
Madonna's Custom-Made Guitar To Be Auctioned Off
Madonna's guitar technician is selling off one of the two guitars made especially for the Material Girl's Drowned World tour in a bid to help him recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Madonna gave John Griswold the instrument after the tour as a thanks for all his services, and now the autographed Les Paul will hit eBay next month to help him get back on his feet. According to website Tmz.com, Griswold was one of the many displaced when Hurricane Katrina ravaged America's Gulf Coast last summer. The first floor of his house was completely flooded and most of his possessions were destroyed. Griswold admits he's reluctant to part with his precious guitar, but financial loss and the hardship he and his family have endured have made the auction a necessity. The instrument was the first guitar Madonna played on tour and will be sold off with the original strings that the pop superstar strummed and plucked on tour.
