Carrey Ditches Agency After Career Flops

Hollywood star Jim Carrey has ditched the agency which launched his career over ten years ago after a series of big screen let-downs. The Ace Ventura star has parted company with the United Talent Agency following a tough summer; two big-budget films he was connected with - Used Guys and Ripley's Believe It Or Not - were shut down after exceeding their $100 million-plus budgets. No longer able to command $20 million per picture, Carrey's most recent signings have been for low-budget productions. Carrey is not blaming the agency for the split. His publicist Marleah Leslie says, "Mr. Carrey has shared an enormous amount of success with UTA over the years for which he is truly grateful. It was a difficult decision to make, but he felt it was time to move on." A spokesperson for UTA says, "With the possible exception of today, Jim Carrey is among the true geniuses of our generation. We wish him eternal sunshine."

The Oscar winner lit up during a press conference in a hotel at the Toronto Film Festival, where he is promoting new movie All The King's Men. In the province of Ontario smoking is banned in all enclosed public places. Now politicians and anti-tobacco campaigners are calling for him to be charged by police. It absolutely should be a target."
Bounty Hunter Chapman Arrested

American TV bounty hunter Duane 'Dog' Chapman and two of his co-stars were arrested yesterday in Hawaii. Chapman, his son Leland Chapman and Timothy Chapman were brought into custody on suspicion of illegal detention and conspiracy in a kidnapping dating back three years. US Marshal Mark Hanohano says the arrest "went down without incident". Mona K. Wood, publicist for Chapman's show Dog The Bounty Hunter, insists he will be vindicated, "He arrests the bad guys - and he is definitely not one of them." The charges date back to Chapman's apprehension of Max Factor heir Andrew Luster in Puerto Villarta, Mexico, in 2003. Luster had fled the US after being convicted of raping three women, and his capture catapulted Chapman to fame and led to his show being commissioned. US Marshals spokeswoman Nikki Credic says the trio face extradition to Mexico. They were arrested shortly after Luster's capture and released on bail, but they failed to return for court hearings in Puerto Villarta. Mexican authorities wanted Luster turned over to them in 2003, but Chapman refused.

But, keen to clear up the rumors, Penn spoke about his brother's passing on a taped segment for Larry King Live. The Oscar winner says, "The problem was weight... He'd certainly been a fantastically self-abusing guy over periods of his life but that wasn't the case it the end. It was a natural death." The rare Sean Penn interview, in which he also chats about working with Sir Anthony Hopkins in new film All The Kings Men, will air in the US later today.

Affleck Shocked by Best Actor Win
Ben Affleck was so sure he would miss out on the top acting prize at the Venice Film Festival, he planned to fly back home to Los Angeles early. The Oscar-winner picked up the Best Actor award for his portrayal of TV Superman George Reeves in the film Hollywoodland. He explains, "If I thought for a second that there were going to be awards for anybody, I would have stayed!" Affleck claims the role has given him a chance to get his career back on track after string of film flops including Jersey Girl and Gigli. He adds, "I've been in movies that earned a lot of money that ...I wish I wasn't in honestly. I was a little cavalier before, but having a child makes me think about things differently. I have to prove myself all over again, but I don't mind that. Once I realized where things were going, I just said, 'OK, let me make sure I'm in a place where I don't have to worry about being on Family Feud for dough in five years and then I'll just do what I can be proud of.' The only thing that matters to me is my daughter being able to be proud of her old man."

Cook's attorney Norman Sheresky has confirmed that his client has now been served with a summons, which is the first step in moving forward with a divorce. Sheresky tells American publication People, "The next step would be for (Brinkley) to serve a complaint and/or for the parties to negotiate an amicable agreement." Sheresky's business partner, David Aronson says Cook is distraught over Brinkley's decision to go ahead with the divorce. He says, "He was hopeful that they would be able to work through this and continue their marriage. He is saddened by the fact that she has decided to move forward, but he understand that's her right and he will respect that." When asked if Cook hoped to reconcile, Aronson says, "Absolutely. He made no bones about that to her and the few times he's spoken to the press. He hoped they would work through their problems and continue with their life together.
