Charvet & Burke Engaged

Former Baywatch star David Charvet and Rock Star: Supernova host Brooke Burke are engaged and expecting a child together. Charvet proposed during a "summer party" he threw on Saturday night, according to Burke. She tells American publication People, "It was a total surprise. It was all very romantic. He's my best friend." Charvet gave his new fiancee an eternity band engagement ring because "it's forever" says Burke. The couple, who are both 34, have known each other for years, but only started dating last year, during Rock Star: INXS. At that time Burke had just separated from her husband, Dr. Garth Fisher, a plastic surgeon featured on US network ABC's Extreme Makeover. The couple have two daughters - Neriah, six, and Sierra, four.
Ebert Still Recovering from Cancer Therapy

US film critic Roger Ebert is temporarily unable to speak properly after undergoing cancer surgery involving the reconstruction of his jaw. The 64-year-old has spent two months in hospital while being treated for recurrent salivary cancer, and in July doctors repaired a blood vessel that had burst the previous month. Ebert's vocal chords have become so weak during the surgery, he will have to slowly practice using his voice again to return to normal. He writes on his website, "When I announced that I had a recurrence of salivary cancer that required surgery, I had no idea when I went into the hospital on June 16 that I would still be here on August 16. I had a particularly intense form of radiation (treatment) called neutron beam radiation, which is more effective for certain cancers, but which is also more debilitating to healthy tissue than conventional radiation."
Soderbergh Puts End to 'Ocean's' Series

Director Steven Soderbergh insists Ocean's Thirteen will be the last installment of the lucrative franchise led by an all-star cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. The director confirmed the news during a question and answer session with reporters at the Edinburgh Film Festival in Scotland on Saturday night. Soderbergh told the crowd they decided to make another installment because "George wanted to go out strong" and that Ocean's Twelve was too complicated, according to film website Dark Horizons. The filmmakers wanted the series to return to its comedic roots this time around and they've also added Al Pacino as a villain. Soderbergh adds, "This guy's a monster!" The announcement comes just days after the film's producer, Jerry Weintraub, told the Hollywood trade papers, "I want them (the cast) all back for Ocean's Fourteen."
Biel Seals the Deal on Auctioned Date

Actress Jessica Biel dined in style on Friday when the man who bid $30,000 for her company took her out for a meal. The man, named simply John, was the top bidder at a Denver, Colorado charity auction, at which lunch with the sexy Stealth star was a top item. According to reports, Biel, dubbed the Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire magazine earlier this year, honored her offer at Denver's Palm restaurant. The dapper bidder, described as an oil and gas company executive, dressed in a white suit with a blue shirt and striped tie for the expensive lunch date. The money John paid for his date with Biel will go towards medical costs for Colorado native Molly Bloom, 18, who lost her leg in a car accident in May.
Craig: "Bond Must Get Bruised"

Actor Daniel Craig loves doing his own dangerous stunts - because getting injured is an essential part of accurately portraying James Bond. The new 007 wants to make forthcoming Bond film Casino Royale as real as possible by not relying on stunt doubles. Craig tells Empire magazine, "I try to do as much stuff as I can. The stunt team is phenomenal; they're putting their all into this. And what we'll be doing, which is gonna be so exciting, is that there's not gonna be any painting-in here. What you see is the real thing. But despite those limitations, I want to do as much as I can, because if I can get my face on camera as much as possible, then people are really gonna believe it's me. You know the process. It's impossible for me to take too many risks - insurance companies wouldn't let me. I'm just pushing the envelope. The truth is, if you don't get bruised when you're doing Bond, you're not doing it properly. That really is it."
Alda Explains Emmy "Tantrum"
Alan Alda has laughed off reports he was jealous when William Shatner beat him to the Best Supporting Actor In A Drama Series gong at last summer's Emmy Awards, insisting he was staging a "mock tantrum." The Aviator star, 70, was seen ripping up his acceptance speech in the audience when Shatner's performance in Boston Legal triumphed over Alda's acting in The West Wing. However, Alda - who already has five Emmys to his name - insists he isn't bothered about winning, and was happy for Shatner. He says, "I tore up my acceptance speech on camera.... People thought I was serious. It was just a silly joke."
'Lost' Lilly Happy With Emmy Snub

Hollywood actress Evangeline Lilly is glad Lost was overlooked at this year's Emmy Awards - because she doesn't want the show cast and crew to become complacent. Despite being last year's award-winning drama at the Emmys, Lost received no nominations this year. Lilly, who plays Kate on the show, says, "My first reaction to it was, 'Good.' I don't want us to become that show that becomes so righteous, so above everything else, that we're untouchable. When we started, our big question was, 'Will anybody even watch this show?' And then when people started watching, we were thrilled. And then when we got recognized critically, we were beside ourselves. So, when we didn't get nominated, all we had to do was remember where we came from."
Usher Takes On Theater Role To Silence Critics

R&B star Usher is determined to silence critics who savaged his performance in the movie In The Mix when he takes on the role of Billy Flynn in the Broadway production of Chicago. Usher, real name Usher Raymond, had his first starring role last year in the ill-fated mob movie. The film received harsh reviews and failed to generate ticket sales at the box office. He says, "You learn how hard it is to find the right part. They're not a dime a dozen, they're tough, man. But I'm also doing it ( Chicago) because it's a challenge, a challenge to myself." The Grammy Award winner wants to tackle all aspects of show business and claims the New York City stage is the next logical step. He adds, "I want to do everything - because I can!"
Geller Sues Owners of Elvis House

Paranormalist Uri Geller has filed a lawsuit against the owners of Elvis Presley's first home, claiming breach of contract after they allegedly refused to sell him the property following an online auction. In May, Geller made a successful $905,100 bid on eBay for the Tennessee property Presley lived in before moving to Graceland. But the owners, Cindy Hazen and Mike Freeman, snubbed the deal and sold the four-bedroom house to a foundation formed by music producer Mike Curb. Geller's lawsuit, filed at Memphis Federal Court, is seeking a jury trial to annul the reported $1 million sale to Curb. He says, "We had the highest bid, but the seller has turned round and given the house to someone who offered them more money. There was a strongly-worded statement on the eBay website that said the highest bid would win the house." Geller planned to turn the house into an Elvis museum.
