Gibson Apologizes for "Horrific Relapse"

Actor/director Mel Gibson has apologized for his behavior leading up to his drunk-driving arrest on Friday. The Braveheart star, 50, was arrested in Malibu, California on Friday morning when cops spotted him speeding at 80 miles per hour on a 50 miles per hour road. The actor failed both breath and field sobriety tests. In a statement, Gibson says, "I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse." While Gibson does not elaborate on the "despicable" comments he made, entertainment website Tmz.com have obtained a police incident report, which alleges the Hollywood star made anti-Semitic comments towards arresting officers. Gibson was released on $5,000 bail after he was charged with drunk driving.
Anderson Weds Kid Rock in France
Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock married on a yacht moored near Saint Tropez, France, on Saturday. The former Baywatch babe and rap-rocker, real name Robert Ritchie, invited celebrity pals Cindy Crawford, Rande Gerber, Jimmy Choo owner Tamara Mellon and Sir Elton John's husband David Furnish to the share the first of four planned ceremonies - they also plan to wed in Nashville, Tennessee; Malibu, California; and Detroit, Michigan. Anderson, 39, and Ritchie, 35, originally began dating in Spring 2001 and became engaged a year later in the Las Vegas, Nevada desert. However, they split in June 2003. The couple reconciled earlier this month when they met on a friend's yacht and realised they still had feelings for each other. Anderson announced their plans to wed on her website on July 18, gushing, "I'm moving on... I feel like I'm finally free
I'm in love. I'm happy... I see the light... sounds dramatic, but it's true." Wedding guest Mellon says, "She was the most beautiful bride I've ever seen - like a modern-day Brigitte Bardot. Kid Rock was a total rock star. He gave her a good kiss. Everybody was crying." Furnish adds, "It was a real rock n' roll wedding." Anderson has two children Brandon, 10, and Dylan, 8, from her three year marriage to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, while Ritchie is dad to Robert James Ritchie Jr., whose mother is ex-girlfriend Kelly South Russell.
Johansson Denies Hollywood Demands
Scarlett Johansson has dismissed claims she lost out on a part in the London stage revival of The Sound Of Music because of outrageous Hollywood demands. Theatre impresario Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber claims he handpicked Johansson for the part of Maria Von Trapp, but axed her when she made ridiculous requests of his West End team. But Johansson's publicist Marcel Parisbeau says, "It is true that there were some discussions regarding Scarlett and the production of The Sound of Music. But Mr. Webber's statement regarding the demands is extremely exaggerated. Her management team was simply asking for terms that an actress of her stature would ask for." The role of Maria will now be played by an actress to be chosen from British reality TV show How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? which will award a six-month contract to one of 10 finalists.

French actor Jean Reno married his long-term love Zofia Borucka in Baux-De-Provence, southern France, on Saturday. The Da Vinci Code star, who turned 58 today, wed French-American model/actress Borucka, 35, in a ceremony in the town hall, which was officiated by the town's mayor Gerard Jouve, a friend of Reno's. French singing legend Johnny Hallyday and politician Nicolas Sarkozy performed witness duties at the town hall ceremony, before joining the couple for a blessing at the local church. Lachey Harassed by Amateur Photographer

Representatives for Nick Lachey have hit back at a student who has accused the singer of roughing him up when he tried to take a picture of him on his mobile phone on Friday night. Younes Renak, 18, claims Lachey went crazy when he tried to snap a photo of him inside an elevator at 2am, and began pushing him around. The alleged altercation kicked off at the fashionable Rivergate apartment building in New York City, where Lachey's girlfriend, TV presenter Vanessa Minnillo lives. Renak's lawyer Saul Bienenfeld tells the New York Post's Page Six, "It was a cell phone (camera), wasn't a paparazzi kind of thing. We're talking about an 18-year-old kid taking in life in the big city." Bienenfeld says his client is considering suing the singer. Meanwhile, Lachey's representatives have slammed the claims, insisting Renak started harassing Lachey at a drugstore and then followed him into the building and the elevator. The singer's lawyer Mitch Schuster says, "We believe it was a lot more than a young man trying to take a picture." Lachey's publicist Ken Sunshine adds, "This harassment with camera phones - it's just out of control." Renak says he still has the cell phone and pictures of Lachey, although he refused to share them with the publication.
Stone Defends 'World Trade Center' As Widow Attacks Him

Movie-maker Oliver Stone has defended his controversial new World Trade Center movie after the widow of a firefighter killed in the line of duty on 9/11 blasted the director for bringing the film to cinemas. Many 9/11 survivors and the families of those killed in the tragedy are supporting the film, but some are unhappy with Stone making the movie so soon after the terrorist attacks brought America to a standstill. Stone isn't naming names but he admits there is one widow in particular who is far from happy with his new film. He says, "I can understand why she would be upset; this goes on in movies a lot but you have to do these things sometimes because they're important. It's a healthy movie, a clean movie. It doesn't offend. It can hurt, it can be hard to go through, you can cry but I think you'll come out cleaned and healed. There's something to be said about facing the fears, confronting them, demythologizing them."
Fanning Hoping 'Hounddog 'Will Win Her an Oscar

Child actress Dakota Fanning is set to shock fans in new movie Hounddog, because she has shot child rape scenes and appears semi-naked. The controversial film written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier is a dark and violent story set in American's rural south - and the 12-year-old's mother and agent are convinced her gritty performance is Oscar-worthy. Agent Joy Osbrink tells the New York Daily News, "It's not just the rape scene - the whole story is challenging Dakota as an actress. And I've never been so proud of her in my life. I've seen the dailies, and in every scene she gets better and better."
McPhee Reveals True Horror of Bulimia Recovery
American Idol star Katharine McPhee faced her eating disorder head-on when she first sat down to eat with fellow bulimics in a rehabilitation center. The sexy brunette's parents found the singer help at an eating disorders program but McPhee had no idea she'd be dining with other troubled girls on her first night in rehab. She recalls, "I remember the first day, my first meal where I sat down with the other girls and I cried at the table. It was just too overwhelming. I was just going face to face and seeing all the other girls struggling at the table, and them seeing myself actually eating as fast as I could to get out of there." The American Idol runner-up, who hit number one in America earlier this summer with her version of standard "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," conquered her eating disorder before becoming an Idol contestant late last year. She adds, "Now I feel like, 'Ha, ha, ha, I can eat whatever I want.' If someone sees me eating, like, a plate of French fries, I'm, like, very happy to be like, 'I'm eating fries.'"
Craig Stunned by Backlash

New James Bond star Daniel Craig has been stunned by the bitter backlash he has received since replacing Pierce Brosnan as the secret agent last year. Craig, whose first appearance as James Bond will be in Casino Royale, was disheartened when thousands of fans called on film-makers Eon to ditch him and bring back Brosnan - claiming the Munich star was "too ugly" for the role. The 38-year-old star says, "I didn't expect this backlash. You take it in, you can't help it. I've been trying to give 110 per cent since the beginning but after all the fuss, maybe I started giving 115 per cent."
Thurman's On-Off Love?
Uma Thurman has reignited rumors she is dating hotelier Andre Balazs again, after suggesting their relationship is "on-and-off again". The Pulp Fiction beauty has frequently spotted with the millionaire businessman since their March split, with her publicist recently insisting they were not together. However during interviews with the British press to promote her new film My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Thurman remains coy over her relationship status. The actress says, "How do you know I've broke up with him? It might very well just be on-and-off again. Who knows?"
