Oprah: "I'm Not Gay"

Oprah Winfrey has hit back at ongoing reports she's gay by insisting she would have already told fans if the rumors were true. The media mogul has often been linked romantically with best friend and business partner Gayle King, but both claim they wouldn't have kept an affair secret. In the August issue of Winfrey's lifestyle magazine O, the Oprah Magazine, the talk show accepts that some people misunderstand her close friendship with King, but insists they are not a lesbian couple. She says, "I understand why people think we're gay. There isn't a definition in our culture for this kind of bond between women. So I get why people have to label it: 'How can you be this close without it being sexual?'" King adds, "The truth is, if we were gay, we would tell you, because there's nothing wrong with being gay." In the article, Winfrey and King chat about their 30-year friendship, admitting they often speak four times a day on the phone when they're not in the same city. Winfrey states, "Something about this relationship feels otherworldly to me, like it was designed by a power and a hand greater than my own. Whatever this friendship is, it's been a very fun ride."

Spillane Dead at 88

Acclaimed crime writer Mickey Spillane has died after a long illness. He was 88. Born Frank Morrison Spillane in Brooklyn, New York in 1918, the author is best remembered as the creator of top TV and movie sleuth Mike Hammer, who appeared in his very first book, I, The Jury, in 1947. Spillane's first stories were published in comic books and pulp magazines. He wrote storylines for Captain America and The Human Torch, among others. Spillane went from writing about heroes to becoming one during World War Two when he worked as a flying instructor for the US Army Air Force. Upon returning to civilian life and reportedly keen to find the money to buy a house, Spillane attempted to turn his private investigator character Hammer into a household name. Between 1950 and 1952, the author wrote five Hammer novels. Each one was bigger than its predecessor and Spillane and Hammer quickly became beloved. The character has been portrayed many times on screen - even Spillane played Hammer in 1963's The Girl Hunters. He once boasted, "I'm the most translated writer in the world, behind Lenin, Tolstoy, Gorki and Jules Verne. And they're all dead." Spillane was married three times and fathered four children.

Pitt: "Children Have Changed Me"

Hollywood new dad Brad Pitt is thrilled with his new life and insists having children is the best thing he has ever done. The Troy star, who is father to three children with partner Angelina Jolie - Maddox, four, Zahara, one and six-week-old daughter Shiloh Nouvel, credits his children with completely changing his attitude towards life. The 42-year-old actor tells US morning show Today, "It really changes your perspective on the world. You know, I've had my day. I made some films, and I've really had a very fortunate life, and it's time for me to share that a little bit." He said having children "takes the focus off yourself, which I'm really grateful for. I'm so tired of thinking about myself. I'm sick of myself." The star is excited by his new role as a parent saying, "You feel you want to be there and not miss out on anything. It's a true joy (and) a very profound love. You can write a book, you can make a movie, you can paint a painting, but having kids is the most extraordinary thing I've ever taken on."

Cruise Thrills Spielberg With Chicago Honor

Tom Cruise thrilled pal Steven Spielberg at the weekend when he showed up unexpectedly to honor the movie mogul at the Chicago Film Festival. Spielberg was momentarily left speechless when his War Of The Worlds star walked out on stage to present him with a Golden Hugo Lifetime Achievement Award. Cruise told the stunned audience, "I had the great pleasure of meeting Steven. And you took me to dinner when I was a young actor. I've seen every one of his films many, many times. I actually study his films." It wasn't the only surprise for Spielberg at the event - celebrity friends like Harrison Ford, George Lucas and Catherine Zeta-Jones all sent him celebratory video messages, which were beamed onto a big screen behind the director.

Teen Set To Sue Brinkley's Husband

A New York teenager caught in the middle of Christie Brinkley's marriage breakdown is now considering legal action against the supermodel's estranged husband, according to the teen's lawyers. An attorney for 19-year-old Diana Bianchi claims Peter Cook caused "substantial and irreparable harm" when he showered the aspiring singer with luxurious gifts - including a Nissan Maxima car - and then seduced her behind Brinkley's back. Lawyer Joseph Tacopina tells the New York Daily News, "It amounts to preying on an innocent, young and naive girl who would otherwise have no attraction to a 50-year-old man. He offered her money, a job, career advancement. And when he got her comfortable, he made his real intentions known." Cook met Bianchi when she was 18-years-old and working at a toy store in Southampton, Long Island and then hired her as his personal assistant at his architecture firm. Brinkley has packed up the couple's two children, Sailor, eight and Jack, 11 and left the couple's home, after reporters started questioning her husband's wandering eye. According to her spokesman Elliott Mintz, "She thought it would be best to be with her children in a different environment, to be a little more protective of what they will see, hear and come across in the news. It's temporary. They will be coming back. For me to say that she's not hurt or shocked, that would just be foolish."

Spelling To Join Usher in 'Chicago'?

So NoTORIous star Tori Spelling is in talks with the producers of Chicago to star as Roxie Hart on the Broadway, New York City stage. Spelling would team up with R&B superstar Usher, who has already signed on as slick lawyer Billy Flynn. The star is currently negotiating with the husband and wife producing team of Barry and Fran Weissler to take over the role from Rita Wilson. The couple have managed to persuade a variety of celebrities from other realms of the entertainment industry to appear on the New York stage including Brooke Shields, Melanie Griffith, Huey Lewis and Billy Zane. Spelling would take over the role at the end of August.

Pfeiffer Set To Sing in 'Hairspray'

Michelle Pfeiffer has joined the cast of the forthcoming big screen version of Hairspray as villain Velma Von Tussel. The star joins John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes and newcomer Nikki Blonsky, who'll play Tracy Turnblad. Pfeiffer will play the former Miss Baltimore Crabs beauty queen-turned-bitter Baltimore, Maryland TV station owner in the film based on the hit Broadway, New York City play. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are writing new songs for their Tony-Award-winning score, including a new tune for Pfeiffer. She last sang in the film The Fabulous Baker Boys, which earned her a Best Actress Academy Award nomination. Plans to shoot the film in Baltimore have been scrapped - it will now be shot entirely in Toronto, Canada starting in September. Director Adam Shankman says, "Not only do we have her singing, which she hasn't done in a long time, but she's been a delicious villain in roles like Catwoman. Velma is this amazing mess of contradictions. I'm going to dress and wig Michelle to death on this one!"

Miller Blasts Franco Romance Rumors

Sienna Miller has slammed reports she's dumped boyfriend Jude Law to start up a romance with her latest leading man, James Franco. Miller's representative, Ciara Parkes, tells American publication People photos that were published of the couple together were actually pictures from a scene they were shooting for the film Camille. She explains, "The pictures of Sienna were of her doing a scene at Niagara Falls with James. There were about a thousand people around them and it was a sad scene, the last scene of the movie. They are just joking about during takes." Miller and her 28-year-old co-star have been shooting the film in Canada for the past month. Meanwhile, Law has been filming My Blueberry Nights in New York City. Miller and Law were spotted together in the Big Apple several weeks ago, but haven't been seen together since. Photos of Franco and Miller looking cozy on set sparked rumors of an affair But a friend of Miller's tells the magazine there is no rift between the celebrity couple saying, "Sienna and Jude are still very much an item. Just because they are working in different locations doesn't mean they've split up. She and James are friends and even actors are entitled to have friends."

Assault Complaint Against Eminem Dropped

A man who told police last week he was assaulted by rapper Eminem during an altercation at a Detroit, Michigan strip club has withdrawn his complaint. A spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department said yesterday a man who first contacted police on Thursday, withdrew his complaint over the weekend, ending the brief police investigation into the matter. The spokesperson didn't reveal the reason behind the alleged victim's reversal. The man, named by a local Detroit news affiliate as Miad J, told the news station he had been using a urinal next to Eminem when another man entered the room and struck up a conversation with the rapper. At that point, Miad J claims one of Eminem's bodyguards warned the man to keep quiet. Miad J said he told the bodyguard to not be so hard on the star-struck man and that's when he was allegedly assaulted. He said at the time, "Eminem got done...he started swinging. I wasn't even expecting it. I was just minding my own business." Police said on Friday that detectives were "very interested" in speaking with Eminem and anyone else involved in the alleged incident. A spokesperson for the Cheetah club on Detroit's famed 8 Mile Road confirmed to the Detroit Free Press newspaper a fight had occurred inside the club and that Eminem was involved, but declined further comment.
