Cruz and McConaughey Split

Penelope Cruz and Matthew McConaughey have split up after dating for over a year. The sexy couple fell for each other while co-starring in the action adventure movie Sahara in 2005, but the pressures of conflicting work schedules have pushed them apart. A joint statement released to American magazine People reads: "(Cruz and McConaughey) have decided to take time off as a couple. Due to busy work schedules and so much time apart, they mutually decided four weeks ago that separating was the best thing to do at this time." Cruz recently won the Best Actress prize at the Cannes Film Festival and is currently in Spain filming the bull-fighting movie Manolete with Adrien Brody. Meanwhile, McConaughey, who was named the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine, is spending his summer in West Virginia filming We Are...Marshall.

Pitt's Parents Arrive in Africa

Brad Pitt's parents arrived in Namibia via private plane on Friday to meet their new granddaughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. Bill and Jane Pitt were spotted at the local airport and will join their son and Angelina Jolie at the Burning Shore Lodge in Swakopmund. The celebrity couple's new daughter was born last Saturday. Meanwhile, Jolie's estranged father Jon Voight, appeared on US network Msnbc Thursday night and extended his best wishes to the couple. He said, "I'm almost unable to describe how deeply happy I am for her (Shiloh's) parents and so happy to have this new little one in the world." When MSNBC news anchor Rita Cosby asked him if he had hope that he would see his new granddaughter he said, "I can just think that one day, I'll just say 'Hey Shi, come over here.' You know?" The actor hasn't spoken with his daughter in four years and has not met her adopted children Maddox and Zahara. Voight hasn't sent Shiloh a baby gift, saying, "This little one can have anything she wants of me, of course. As she grows older, hopefully I'll be able to give her everything that I've got."

'Hotel Rwanda' Is "Inaccurate" Says President

Rwandan president Paul Kagame has criticized the Oscar-nominated movie Hotel Rwanda for not portraying his country's 1994 genocide accurately. The controversial film was directed, written and produced by Terry George, and stars Don Cheadle as Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager who saved over 1,200 Tutsi refugees. Eight hundred thousand Tutsis and Hutus were killed during 100 days of savage violence in the African country. But during a visit to Washington DC on Wednesday, Kagame disputed Hotel Rwanda's portrayal of Rusesabagina as a hero. Kagame said, "It has nothing to do with Rusesabagina. He just happened to be there accidentally, and he happened to be surviving because he was not in the category of those being hunted. Someone is trying to rewrite the history of Rwanda and we cannot accept it." Kagame claims the hotel became a safe haven partly because United Nations (UN) forces were staying there and because the killers drank beer there.

Doherty Slams Spelling

Shannen Doherty was furious when she found out her former Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Tori Spelling made fun of her on her new TV show So NoTORIous. The star was especially shocked because Spelling had specifically told Doherty she would never say a bad word about her on the series. She explains, "(Spelling) sent me a tape of the pilot and a very, very, very small note asking me to do the show, promising that she would never say a bad word about me ever, and we used to be best friends, and still care about each other." Doherty was stunned when friends began calling her to tell her about the on-air abuse after the show aired. The star explains, "I was on a self-imposed hiatus. I needed time to myself and I said no. I don't know if it was something taken personally or maybe it was 'If we make fun of her, it will bring in the ratings and the publicity.' It did hurt. I hope it helped her. If mentioning my name made people write about it, then great. Good for you. I get it. It's a business."

Lohan Demands Davis Apologize

Lindsay Lohan is demanding oil heir Brandon Davis formally apologize for his verbal tirade against her and donate $250,000 to charity, according to media reports in the US. Davis, who is Mischa Barton's ex-boyfriend, was videoed making derogatory comments about the young star while hotel heiress Paris Hilton laughed in the background. During the tirade against the Mean Girls star, Davis attacked Lohan's personal hygiene, lifestyle and former boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama. According to Us publication In Touch, Lohan is reportedly demanding Davis make a formal apology on camera. Girls Gone Wild creator Joe Francis had previously said that Davis had allegedly called Lohan to apologize, but she wants him to go one step further. In addition to the formal apology, she is reportedly asking him to make a $250,000 donation to a charity of her choosing.

Diet Pill Makers Sue 'Sopranos' Star

Joseph R. Gannascoli, who played a closeted gay mobster on The Sopranos, is being sued by the manufacturer of a diet drug. The maker of Stacker 2 filed a lawsuit Thursday, claiming Gannascoli hasn't been doing enough to promote the product after receiving $316,000 from the company over the last 2 1/2 years. According to NVE Pharmaceuticals president Robert Occhifinto, "He was very difficult to work with all the time." The 47-year-old actor slams the company's claims, saying they were unhappy with him because he was playing homosexual character Vito Spatafore on the show. He adds, "I begged them to do things, but they wouldn't. They didn't like I was doing the gay thing." Last month, Gannascoli signed with another company to endorse a competing diet pill.

Ziyi's Bold Behavior Wowed Cannes Jury

Young Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi stunned her elders on the jury of this year's Cannes Film Festival with her "bold" opinions, according to jury head Wong Kar-Wai. The Hong Kong film-maker headed the jury at the annual French festival, which included American Samuel L. Jackson, Italian Monica Bellucci and Brits Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Roth. Kar-Wai, who directed the 27-year-old beauty in 2046, says, "She's very bold. Even though she's very young, she's made quite a few movies. She's bold in expressing herself, so there isn't an issue of being timid because she's less experienced."

'The Da Vinci Code' Banned in Pakistan

Controversial film The Da Vinci Code has been banned in Pakistan after officials slammed it as blasphemous and disrespectful to the country's minority Christians. The movie, based on the best-selling novel by Dan Brown, speculates that Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene had children whose descendents are still alive. So far, no screenings of the Tom Hanks-starring film have taken place in Pakistan. Shahbaz Bhatti, a prominent Christian leader who believes Brown has "evil intentions," says, "The Da Vinci Code is a sacrilegious act in the guise of freedom of expression and fiction. It has hurt the religious sentiments of Christians and Muslims throughout the world."

Geller Misses Out on Elvis House

Paranormalist Uri Geller is fuming after discovering Elvis Presley's former home, which he bought on eBay, has been sold to someone else. Last month Geller made a successful $905,100 bid on eBay for the Tennessee property Presley lived in before moving to Graceland. But the owners snubbed the deal and sold the four-bedroom house to a foundation formed by music producer Mike Curb. Geller, who planned to turn the house into an Elvis museum, says, "We are absolutely, mind-blown angry. Of course we're going to sue." But eBay warns its rules will make it difficult for him to sue. Spokeswoman Catherine England says, "The platform we provide in real estate really serves to generate interest. It isn't a legally binding contract."
