It's a Girl for Brad and Angelina

After months of media scrutiny, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are finally parents of a baby girl, named Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. Jolie gave birth on Saturday in Namibia, where the couple have been in residence amid high security for the past few weeks; in fact, due to Jolie's impending delivery, Pitt recently canceled an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival to promote his new film, Babel. According to a doctor speaking on condition of anonymity, both mother and daughter were doing well. Pitt's publicist confirmed the birth on Saturday night, but said that no other information -- or coveted photographs -- would be released. It's the first biological child for Pitt and Jolie and the third overall, as Jolie's two adopted children, Maddox and Zahara, recently had their names changed to Jolie-Pitt as Pitt has announced that he plans to adopt the two as well. --Mark Englehart, IMDb staff

Coppola Defends 'Marie-Antoinette'

Director Sofia Coppola has hit back at critics who mauled her new movie Marie-Antoinette as an attempt to Americanize French history. Coppola's film chronicles the life of the tragic French queen during the revolution in the 1790s. It has been criticized for its American pop video feel, but Coppola insists she wanted to accentuate the youthful slant to the story. She says, "I wasn't making a political movie about the French revolution, I was making a portrait of Marie-Antoinette and my opinions are in the film. We modernized certain things that were relate-able to me and a modern audience. The story is about teenagers in Versailles, so I wanted it to have that energy of youth and teenage feeling to it."

Britney and Federline Split?

New reports Britney Spears has split from husband Kevin Federline have not been denied by the singer's publicist. British newspaper the Daily Mirror claims the couple's relationship has grown so strained, Spears has banished Federline to live in the basement of their California mansion. She reportedly returned from New York this week to find the aspiring rapper drinking and smoking cannabis in the house. Sources tell the newspaper Spears had hoped to save the marriage for the sake of their son Sean Preston and their unborn second child - due in October - but has lost patience. A friend says, "She wanted to wait but their relationship has become so hostile she just doesn't see how she can make it work." When quizzed, a spokesman for the star refused to deny the claims.

'American Idol' Star-Studded Finale

Alabama soul man Taylor Hicks was crowned the fifth American Idol in Hollywood Wednesday night after a winning the majority of a staggering 63.4 million votes. The grey-haired singer beat California girl Katharine McPhee in the star-studded two-hour finale at the Kodak Theatre, which was capped by a surprise appearance from Prince. He wasn't the only celebrity performer to grace the stage at the final - Toni Braxton, Al Jarreau, Mary J Blige and Meat Loaf also dueted with their favorite Idols, while Dionne Warwick teamed up with Burt Bacharach for a medley of "Walk On By" and "That's What Friends Are For," backed by the show's finalists. Hicks, 29, joins past winners Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia and Carrie Underwood and was handed the keys to a Ford Mustang as a finalist and a new record contract as the 2006 American Idol.

Brando's Last Movie Back On

Shooting has resumed on Hollywood legend Marlon Brando's last ever movie. The Godfather star had completed all his scenes for Brando when he died in July 2004. But filmmaker Ridha Behi closed the project, about a Tunisian boy who travels to the US to meet his hero Brando and chase the American dream. Behi has now revamped and resurrected the film, which will now be called Citizen Brando, and will be part fiction and part documentary about the director's experiences with the star. Behi explains, "What I was highlighting in the film, the Arab-USA tensions, have even greater resonance, two years later." Christopher Walken will star in the fictional part of the film. Shooting has begun at the Cannes Film Festival, where Behi hopes to unveil the film next year.

Principal Files for Divorce

Actress-turned-skin care queen Victoria Principal has filed for divorce from her husband of 21 years, Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Harry Glassman. The former Dallas star filed papers in Los Angeles County Superior Court Wednesday, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, according to Tmz.com, who obtained the documents. The splitting of the couple's vast fortune will be the biggest battle of the divorce, as the pair have no children. Glassman is one of Hollywood's top plastic surgeons, while Principal has amassed a fortune as the brains behind her namesake skincare line.

Taylor To Reveal "Secrets" to Larry King

Ailing movie legend and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf star Elizabeth Taylor has agreed to sit down for what is expected to be one of her final TV interviews with pal Larry King next week. The reclusive actress-turned-AIDS activist, 74, has been dogged by tabloid stories she's close to death, planning her funeral and riddled with memory-crippling disease Alzheimer's for weeks, despite her publicists' insistence that she's well. On King's CNN website, he teases, "Liz Taylor has lots of secrets to spill. Find out what they are when the legend sits down with Larry."

Romijn & Anderson Lose Out in TV Shake-Up

Rebecca Romijn's new TV show Pepper Dennis and Pamela Anderson's sitcom Stacked are two of the casualties in one of US TV's most ruthless cutbacks. The two shows join a long list of programs that will not return this autumn for new series on their respective networks. In Pepper Dennis, Romijn played an unlucky in love reporter, while Anderson was praised for her role as a busty bookstore employee. Also cancelled, according to top US magazine TV Guide, are long-running comedy The Bernie Mac Show, Jenna Elfman's Courting Alex, doomed Friends spin-off Joey and cult drama Everwood.

Berry Breaks Toe

X-Men: The Last Stand star Halle Berry broke her toe on Tuesday night, while rushing to catch a plane to New York City. The star broke the second toe on her left foot as she was boarding a flight in France, where she was promoting her new movie at the Cannes Film Festival. Berry didn't let her injury cramp her style - she was seen wearing high-heeled black wedges while promoting the film Wednesday night. She said, "I've still got my heels on! What's a girl going to do, right? I knew it was bad news the minute it happened. And yeah, it hurts."

Jackson Custody Appeal Dismissed

Pop superstar Michael Jackson is not allowed full custody of his children, a US court has ruled. The Thriller hitmaker was hoping to appeal ex-wife Debbie Rowe's right to parental responsibilities, which she dramatically won back in February after signing them away five years ago. But Jackson's request was turned down by the California Supreme Court Wednesday, which could make it virtually impossible for him to carry on living with the couple's kids Prince Michael, nine, and Paris, eight, alone in Bahrain. Rowe's lawyer Eric George tells the New York Post, "This is an excellent, although not surprising, development for Deborah. This means she can proceed with her claims before the family court without any further delay." Rowe and Jackson were married from 1996 to 2000.

Macfadyen and Hawes Expecting

Pride & Prejudice heart-throb Matthew Macfadyen and his actress wife Keeley Hawes are expecting their second child together. Macfadyen, 31, and Hawes, 28, met on the set of BBC drama Spooks (also known as MI-5) and married in 2004. Hawes, who has a six-year-old son Miles from her first marriage to Spencer McCallum, is expecting the newest addition to the family in September.
